13881  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-02-10] Disappointing week for Bitcoin on: February 10, 2014, 07:46:49 PM
I am honestly a little relived that all of the issues at Mt. Gox are coming to the surface.  For Bitcoin to be taken seriously we need to weed out the weaknesses.  Silk Road was a problem.  With it gone Bitcoin is better off.  Mt. Gox was a problem.  It if is gone hopefully better more professional exchanges will come along and just help Bitcoin grow that much more.

It was all a matter of time.  Of course I hope that most Bitcoin users do not lose trust in Bitcoin and that the funds and Bitcoins are returned at some point.  That is the biggest issue in all of this.

Silk Road is up and running, but what was the problem with it? Bitcoin probably wouldn't be where it's at today without it. In fact, I heard about Bitcoin through the media coverage of Silk Road.

Bitcoin being used primarily for nefarious purposes taints it as being legitimate.  I am sure the price it has reached was on the coattails of drugs and porn, but is that really a good thing?  I believe that the world would be a much better place without drugs and pornography but I know many of you do not agree with that statement.

Well , Visa doesn't care a bit about porn and they make a lot of money out of it. Nor is anybody criticizing them too openly for this.
I'm pretty sure bitcoin isn't primarily used for porn either , with only a few websites accepting it.

It was when silkroad was closed and DPR arrested.
Many feared that due to the rumors that only real world use for bitcoins is drug merchandise and with one of the leading websites closed and two others running away in panic the price will plummet to single digits in a bear&sheep stampede

Now, imagine the price when the halving will have done its work.
What will happen? Miners will get fewer coins and will turn to other coins if the price doesen't increse to make it profitable again. If it looses miners it might get less popular?

It can't become less popular, Reddit likes it too much. Remember miners aren't the thing that determines popularity with this coin, the internet does.

Lols, everything can become less popular.
Star wars , spice girls , myspace ... nothing will be popular forever.

The author is personally affected by MtGox’ behavior, having a six-figure dollar amount in such non-executed withdrawals. He considered Gox to be a safer repository for bitcoin than his own probably-hackable computer. That judgment may not have been accurate.

No shit (responding to the section I made bold).

Bitcoin is all about taking control of your money. Why are people so interested in giving up that control again?

Learn to secure your private keys. It's not that hard, nor is it expensive.

For the love of all things holy don't trust amateur exchanges that have a long history of fucking shit up! Sad

Why are you so surprised.

Haven't you learned form the inputs.io scam that people are willingly letting go of their bitcoins , and they do this quite easy , thinking that  everything is safe and is run by blue honey bears?

13890  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best way to buy bitcoin on: February 10, 2014, 06:17:26 PM
I recommend localbitcoins.com.
It's easy, you don't have to trust a centralized institution to store your coins securely (as Mt.Gox showed, that might backfire) and you don't have to provide them with your ID/proof of residence. They offer an escrow and rating service, so as long as you use it careful, it's safe. Also they work with both € and $, and offer a huge load of payment methods, just choose the one you like most (but not PayPal. It's easily reversible. Many Sellers lost their money by using PayPal). Read the guides on their site for further information.

In my case localbitcoins only offers coins at 20% rate on bitstamp if I search for a seller from my country. And taking into account the 300km drive to get a better deal in cash,  localbitcoins is a no no.
13891  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Selfish Bitcoin holders. We are now the evil greedy bankers of the future on: February 10, 2014, 06:14:06 PM
How about not over reaching and attributing the lack of success to gready "holders"?  Plenty of companies have sold plenty of goods for Bitcoins.  The same goes to charities.   Take a look at Sean's Outpost.

The fact that you have raised exactly zero speaks more to your venture.  I never donated because the proposal was light on details and I doubted your ability to pull it off.  At this point your rant against evil greedy bitcoin holders ... well my interest is exactly 0.

Please Educate me!!! I am not being sarcastic. If I am doing something wrong tell me how to do it right. As long as the mission gets accomplished I will swallow my pride and listen and do whatever it takes to launch the flag into space.  If you have the time please tell me what I need to do?
You seem to have been around this community for a while and I trust in your counsel and wisdom

First find a trustable member of the community to collect the funds for your project.
That would stop people saying it's a scam. I myself consider your project a scam  to this point.
13892  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Selfish Bitcoin holders. Are we are now the evil greedy bankers of the future? on: February 10, 2014, 06:11:49 PM
Selfish Bitcoin holders

I have been trying to drum up some support from the community to help launch the first bitcoin flag into space. I was even offering free advertisement space to people who donate. I have not received 1 donation to support Bitcoin flag going to space. Bitcoin needs positive news in the media to make the prices rise again. As a Bitcoin holder it is in my best interest to create positive PR in the media to help surge Bitcoin popularity and prices. I have spent many Bitcoins on parts, Cameras, Material needed for the mission to launch bitcoin flag into space but not one person has found it in them to help. DAMN selfish bitcoin community consumed by greed has no idea or care about the greater good. This is not what Satoshi had in mind for us to turn into the greedy banker types. I ask you one last time .Support the mission to take the FIRST Bitcoin Flag into SPACE. Donate please  1HNNi6EPCxRsHUpGESZXoFr9qpWqiLeY8L

When clicking on "Windows Wallet" on the first page it still says: "Page not found - GitHub".

It has been like that for a long time. Nobody bothers. It's maxcoin after all.

KAKArhu was disappointing once again.
Was this all he's got? Even a baby panda could have done it better than this.
13896  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: February 10, 2014, 06:01:14 PM
I would like to see all the MTGOX supporters try to justify their recent statement blaming the bitcoin protocol/software for being "broken".

MTGOX's recent press release shows their continued effort to shift blame to everyone but themselves.

Gox needs to die after this blatant lie to try to get out of the blame of what really has gone on.

They use a custom version of the bitcoin software, that is a totally in-house issue.

Good luck to all who have FIAT or BTC stuck in their black-hole of an exchange.

Is there even a person who blames the protocol and not gox for this? Or course without counting the gox staff.
13897  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 10, 2014, 05:57:52 PM
What if the whale which dropped all those bitcoins was right and he knew what he was doing Huh?

Well , every passing second in which bitcoin is trading above 600 shows that he was wrong.
13898  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Question: Can The Same "Gox Bug" Affect Altcoins? on: February 10, 2014, 05:54:29 PM
But as far as we know, MtGox was the only exchange so stupid to process transactions this way, and they don't trade altcoins, so no, in practice, none are affected.

Not really true, other exchanges are also affected.

Are you sure they are not affected by the FUD and not because of the so called "bug".
13899  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-02-10] Disappointing week for Bitcoin on: February 10, 2014, 05:53:03 PM
@stompix
Ok, not very exact title of this thread, but article states:
Quote
The week ending on February 9th, 2014 was not a great one in the world of bitcoin.

Ah , OK.
I never checked the date of the article itself.  Usually articles get here the moment they are published so I didn't thought it could have been such a delay.
13900  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Explain the gox transaction malleability issue like you are five on: February 10, 2014, 05:49:19 PM
Because other exchangers aren't being run by fairies dancing around the magical pot of bitcoins when the owner is drunk dead in the basement ?

I think you mean "dead drunk", though I like your way better.

I always thought it's first the drinking and then the dying =))))  , so > drunk dead.

But right now ,It  won't be long till it he ends dead with lots of holes in it , depending on how much money people lost with his exchanger.
