14421  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is GPU power the single most important factor in mining for BTC? on: December 27, 2013, 12:20:21 PM
Thanks all for our prompt responses.

I have a 1000W  PSU and GTX 560 Ti card.. 90Mh/s

Looking to acquire BTC mining equipment and review setup trade off's.

Especially with 2-3h/sH equipment arriving in 2014

Any thoughts...

It's best you check this daily. Cause what;s profitable today won't be tomorrow.
You have to take into account the herd factor , once some coin is profitable people start mining it , more hashrate , your part is getting smaller , move to the next coin.
14422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Biggest Flaw with Bitcoin that Could Crash the Entire System on: December 27, 2013, 12:16:24 PM
The biggest piece of  FUD that has been ever posted...

There were moments in the past when pools were far closer to 51% , and they even got over that. Nothing happened.
Why?
Because there is nobody insane enough to kill their own business.
You don't kill the f golden goose.

14423  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin-mining by botnets (updated paper link) on: December 27, 2013, 12:07:01 PM
It was already discussed a long time ago why Zeroaccess stopped mining bitcoins.
The ASICS drove them away and if they still mine LTC this won't last too long.

But new coins or CPU designed ones are in real danger.
I'm interested how quark will try to protect it's network with a coming reward of 20cents/minute , 12$/hour.

14424  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to ruin Dogecoin on: December 27, 2013, 10:55:34 AM

Allow me to laugh my a**
"A big thank you goes out the wonderful dogecoin devs for working this out so extraordinarily quickly.."

Can we all lol at this?
They fixed a problem that bitcoiners talked a lot and fixed it a long time ago.
What the hell did they clone?
The first protocol made by satoshi?
Should we start checking all the bugs bitcoin had are really fixed?

This is becoming a joke of a joke coin.

Wow, you must really hate this coin.

Why are you even here, posting so frequently about it all the time?

Yeah , I hate it so much to defend it against FUD , unlike it's stupid supporters who went nuts from a stupid news.

http://techcrunch.com/2013/12/25/dogecoin-hack/

Thats one but there are multiple sources.  =( sigh

A service using doge was hacked.
You know the difference between a website using a crypto and that crypto protocol?

A lot of websites using bitcoins have been hacked , including mtgox.
But the bitcoin protocol has never been hacked.

Spend some more time in the newbie area. With this kind of FUD you're dangerous.

You're the typical zealot , who is not with us is against us.
I'm not. I just hate stupidity.
14425  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to ruin Dogecoin on: December 27, 2013, 10:53:39 AM
Agreed, there are much better coins to attack than doge. Dogecoin community acknowledges that it's just for fun and that nobody should take it seriously.

Yet people are seriously considering it as an investment.

It's just funny to see so many people hating a coin because they don't like the meme  Cheesy

I don't like it either, but this is fun, even Billy said the coin was just for fun, yet everyone seems to take it way too seriously!!!

Just relax and take the coins with a grain of salt, no one's forcing you too mine it, and if you're investing in things like this for the sole purpose of becoming rich then...well...you're just not doing it right. Never gamble with what you aren't willing to lose, simple. Just relax and enjoy it and go about your lives and don't invest every moment of everyday worrying about it. If you want to do serious trading and investing, then stick to the big coins

How can you consider it fun when you don't like it?
People don't hate it because of the meme , people hate it because of the stupidity of it's adopters and the way they act and spam the forum.
If it was a joke ti would have been funny , but it's just annoying.

Then go somewhere else

Bitcoin was born with the principle of freedom in it.
Telling somebody to go somewhere else if they don't like something and denying them to talk about what they see bad in something is against the freedom of speech.
Furthermore , I come with real arguments not stupid trolling.
14426  Other / Meta / Re: (Suggestion) New sub-forum for novelty coins on: December 27, 2013, 10:38:56 AM
Imagine if bitcoin was all in one sub-forum.
That is entirely the point of having a single altcoin section. If it's sufficiently inconvienient to discuss altcoins here maybe they'll move to their own forum.

I think bothering to create their own forum is too much work for some of these altcoin developers. And all these altcoin forums are usually dead anyway. Even Litcoin's forum gets hardly any activity.

I consider that most of them are coming here because of the already established forum ,with lots of members looking for some quick cash from mining , targeted customers I would say.
If they start their own forum , it will take them a few years to gain the popularity they can achieve here with 10 shills and 2 giveaways from their premined coins.

Even though Dogecoin has its own site and apparently "incredible active community", I think the main development or help is dished out via the Dogecoin thread in Alt Currencies here, so that's why we get all these stupid newbs posting their nonsense to get out of newbie jail so they can ask their stupid questions in that forum.

Nope, their most active spot is /r/dogecoin with user count exceeding /r/litecoin.

...In the end, everyone will subconsciously find flaws in the coin they don't hold in large numbers.

It's like a newbie (student) to the world of crypto, comes to BTCtalk (head university) and it opens a whole world in front of them, they can choose their own coin (subject). Unlike coin specific forums.

That's the beauty of Bitcointalk, it's the epicentre of crypto world.

I trade 1 Satoshi for all the posters in r/dogecoin.
Sometimes quality is needed before quantity.
14427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We should be happy tyranny is allergic to bitcoin, not sad. on: December 27, 2013, 10:37:27 AM

Yeah , it doesn't matter if you're shot or stabbed.
But then again , one is more painful than the other Smiley.
14428  Other / Meta / Re: Problems with tor and the forum on: December 27, 2013, 10:35:39 AM
I really think this issues is blown out of proportions.
I've seen this message at least 4-5 times a day and a quick reconnect solves everything.

I have to admit I was scared the first time I saw it but , If it prevents spammers even by 1% keep it in place.

14429  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price at end of 2014? on: December 27, 2013, 09:38:12 AM
My prediction: 6666.66 because satan loves BTC. Last days and over christmas the 666.66 was very common price. And LTC will be sold for 66.66 of course. However the price will be stable like political situation in middle Africa. And it will be the last golden age of bitcoin, it will fall suddenly and will be replaced by something else.

You know , Satan doesn't own all the bitcoins. Buddha has some , Shiva and Allah some and there are a lot of Kami(s) with a few BTC each.
So , it could be 12(000) , 9413 ,  4949 Smiley
14430  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Catcoin vs Kittehcoin on: December 27, 2013, 09:29:46 AM
4 Different cat themed coins? WTF is wrong with the world...?

W8 , what do you mean 4?
I know about two of them from this topic , but the other two?
14431  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin network cost is OK now, but may soon be hugely wasteful on: December 27, 2013, 09:28:37 AM
The question is: is 2% of global wealth devoted to protecting the Bitcoin network overkill?

The financial sector is roughly 10% of US GDP so 2% isn't automatically a "wasteful" number. It might be, depending on how much more efficient the rest of the financial sector becomes, or how much incremental wealth is created by people using bitcoin.

Also, the issue with 25 BTC/block is entirely temporary. When the block reward gets cut in half in ~2 years your 2% estimate instantly drops to 1% (and then 1/2% at the next reward drop). Of course that ignores transaction fees.

You can safely ignore transactions fees for the moment.
Without the once in a while mistakes when somebody pays some outrageous tx fees , it has rarely touched 50BTC per day and only 10-15 lately.
14432  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price at end of 2014? on: December 26, 2013, 09:38:44 PM
We went from about $15 at the beginning of 2013 to about $700 right now (we are still not done with 2013 either) and most of you think all it will do in 2014 will rise to $2000-$7000?  BTC increased in value about 50x this year.  If we multiply $700 X 50 we get $35,000.  I think that is totally realistic because people are just starting to hear about BTC and we are on the brink of more companies using and accepting BTC as well.

My expectations, that are based on the past behavior of BTC and the exponential growth rate is that we will hit $35,000 to even $50,000 by the end of next year.

Except it doesn't work like this. You can't assume that because it grew so much in one year it will continue to do so the next.

But it already has worked like this for the past couple of years, and next year should be an even bigger year with news, more companies investing, wall street getting involved.  I think I am being really conservative with these numbers basing it on this year's growth.  It could be even more then this.  I am not the only one that believes this either and I am not just guessing at these numbers.  This is just based on the adoption curve of new technologies and there has been proof already that we are on a logarithmic growth scale that seems to be fairly accurate.  The big "crashes" just bring the price closer to this scale and we continue on.  The really good traders out there are the ones that can predict when the price is over this growth rate and sell accordingly.  I am not always confident that the price will keep dropping or when the top of the rises are so I just hold but there is some definite math involved here that can be used if studied.

What I am trying to say is that $2000 to $3000 is not realistic.  That is way too low of a number.  Call me crazy or just bring this thread back in December of 2014 and see who was right.

I think I am.  I am holding.  Smiley

Think of your numbers as playing martingale starting with 100.
1 , 2 , 4 , 8  and when it hits 16 (1600) the things are begging to look scary.

And , why should this increase stop in 2015 , 1,25 millions by 2015?
50 millions in 2016?

Also the price was around 14$ in jan 2013 and 2$ in 2012. that's just 7x.
According to your logic , the growth in the next year would be 350x.  ( 7 50 350)

May I ask you where you live?
Because I lived in a communist country for enough time to realize USA is not going communist.
1. I live in the USA
2. Living in a communist country doesn't make you qualified to comment on whether a country is transitioning towards communism. It only qualifies you to explain what it is like to live under a communist regime after the transition is over. Unless you wish to revise it into you having lived THROUGH such a transition.
3. The hell it isn't

Do yourself a favor.
Fly to one of the ex soviet countries , but not Russia. Try to live for two months in Belarus or Turkmenistan.

It's better to lose a month of your life understanding something rather than living a whole life in a lie.

You people in the USA have no fucking idea how communism was and is.
I lived enough in both communism and capitalist regimes to tell USA has nothing to do with communism and is by no means getting closer to it.
14434  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alt-Coins on: December 26, 2013, 07:16:29 PM
Spent a few days reading several alt-coin fora.
Recently discovered Nxt and immediately understood it was quite different from most other coins. Especially the 'green' mining aspect, or I understood from the Wiki http://nxtcrypto.wikia.com/wiki/Nxt_Wiki I should say forging.

I wanted to by myself a (very Smiley) little stake into it. So I went through the hassle of buying some BTC, transferring them to dgex and bought Nxt's at the going rate.

In the mean time i continued reading a lot of info on their forum https://nextcoin.org/

They seem to get a lot of attention of attackers. Why? I really don't know, but it might be that others are afraid of the competition Huh.
And i should say, despite the attacks, they seem to survive very well Grin

Oh really....
You have a 100% premined coin , sold by the "developers" only on their exchange , at the price they want.
And , you don't smell anything fishy?
You've got to get a nosejob.

14437  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: December 26, 2013, 06:35:21 PM
Is there a website like blockchain.info with all the graphs?
If not , I'm interested in the hasrate evolution and number of transaction graphs. For a longer period , at least 1 month.

Anything like that?
not sure but qrk has one of the highest trading volumes on cryptsy and other sites

Transactions , not trade volume.
Two different things.

I've been watching the trade volume on bter.com for a month now. The volume of the Sell Orders and Buy Orders was much higher than average.

As I said before , I was interested in transactions number/volume.Not volume on exchangers.
Coins moving from one address to another , from people to people.
14438  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Graincoin Blockchain Fork Took 1 Million Coin on: December 26, 2013, 06:32:38 PM
@Jollyburner

since the guy befor esaid that he likes who you think , I will say I like how you write or talk:).
Have you considered politics?

Because you managed to write .. what .. 40 rows of .. nothing.
You just said the stuff people already know about alt coins , clones with nothing better than a better reward for mining in the early stages.

and for the last paragraph  , this is not a new prince , this is a parasite feeding from the main crypto.
It brings nothing new but it lures victims into buying it , mining it and taking security as hashrate and investments as money from other coins.

ok well this is your opinion.

following  ....  wall of emptiness

I stopped at:
also to say taking security as hashrate from other coins is inaccurate, imo, the crypto market is more secure as a whole by having many different cryptos in the sense that an attacker must focus his attention on any one coin at a time, and cannot attack the majority of the market by focusing on a single target.

Please , read it again , and again and If it's necessary again and man , got a clue how many stupid things you type here.
What is easier to take down: 100 websites hosted on a vps or google with a ddos?

Now , to make you understand what kind of clone I would value:
One clone that is pruning the blockchain
Reduced tx size
A new form of identification for transactions , maybe a 2fa ? (although i have no clue how it will work?)

not name, block time reward funny logo or cool icon.
REAL IMPROVEMENTS.
and not one of a time , a few once.

man doge got hacked.  i just read online.  security on coins def needs to be worked on.

How can a protocol get hacked? Care to point the source of this info?
