Let the GoXXXing continue.

Much like the actual gold rush, very few miners will strike it rich, most will gain nothing, and the people selling the shovels and gold pans will always profit.

Or, get a good protein powder with Lactase in it :-)

We should lend bitcoins for the subprime mortgage market, and come up with some derivative based speculation funds as well.

Who will be the first to get explosive diarrhea?
225  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Western Union considering using Bitcoin on: November 19, 2013, 06:41:03 PM
Man sends $500 in Western Union.  Arrives 10 minutes later as $100.  Man sends $100 to his Auntie who now has $1000 10 minutes later.

I can't see what could possibly be wrong with this business model.

Here's what I think... BitCoin was made by the NSA to crack codes.

All of the private keys that were easy have already been cracked.  Now we are cracking harder ones, and thus they are becoming more valuable.

It is a free market solution to help them snoop on tougher and tougher encrypted things.

Of course, I could be wrong, or it could just be the paint thinner talking.  But wouldn't that be awesome?

Similar ideas have been proposed before.

If anyone saw the show Stargate Universe, remember they used crowd-sourced brainpower to solve algorithms. Same idea.

Stargate Universe?  Really?

wow you must have gotten the brand name paint thinner.  I've just been drinking this home depot brand bullshit.

Yes, that's it, pointing to a storyline which used crowd-sourced crypto and brainpower to provide solutions is really out there.

No bottom shelf thinner here my boy, just top shelf.

Roll Eyes

It was just a little too much nerd even for me.  I mean, MacGuyver stargate, fine, but Stargate UNIVERSE?

This entire premise is based on such an absurd misunderstanding of mining that I'd never imagined was even possible.

I find your lack of faith disturbing, Captain Needa.

233  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Western Union considering using Bitcoin on: November 19, 2013, 03:41:10 PM
It would be interesting to see how much of that are the same coins being turned over.  Nobody is day trading western union.  So to say you're bigger than western union is kind of silly.  Is it 239 million worth of transactions?  Or 1 million worth, 239 times?  Who knows.

Compare it to a particular stock's volume on any given day, that is a better and more reasonable comparison to make.
234  Other / Off-topic / If it's a statement don't use a question mark? on: November 19, 2013, 03:37:49 PM
Correct.

If you are making a statement, you do not need the title to have a question mark?

Some examples:

Transactions taking a long time? <--- statement put as a question
Transactions are taking a long time <-- statement put as a statement

My crazy theory? <--- Not a question
THIS is my crazy theory <-- fixed

The Chinese warlord Lao Tzu invented bitcoin? <--- this is a question asking for clarification.  The answer is no.
DID The Chinese warlord Lao Tzu invent bitcoin? <--- This is asking a question with a hypothesis in mind.
The Chinese warlord Lao Tzu invented bitcoin <-- This is a statement of your theory

I ignored the first 15 or so topics with this kind of title until my eyes just got too angry.

The world is flat?

If Bitcoin don't cause death, how me a dog learned English?
238  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You don't have to buy a whole Bitcoin! You can buy partial! on: November 19, 2013, 05:04:24 AM
How can relatives enjoy the ride that only a good goxxxing can provide, if they aren't invited in?  Hopefully you are charging at least a 20% money changing fee for introducing them.
239  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You don't have to buy a whole Bitcoin! You can buy partial! on: November 19, 2013, 04:32:26 AM
Good.

People who don't even unterstand the basics of bitcoin should probably not invest in the first place.

A large influx of naive investors, who don't get the concepts behind bitcoin and only buy because "the price is going up", could be very damaging at this stage.

They are going to become panic sellers at the slightest sign of trouble, and we are going to see yet another massive crash.

Growth is good but it should be gradual and organic.

Hey Timo,

Remember last year when you took like 50 BTC to build a website for me and never finished?

I remember too :-)
240  Economy / Service Discussion / When was the last GoXXXing? on: November 19, 2013, 04:29:21 AM
How long has it been since the last GoXXXing?  Because they are never far away, I'd like to have a sign that says:

It Has Been
39 Days
Since Last Mt. Gox "Accident"

for my own personal amusement.  With bitcoins at ridiculous prices, and the heartbreak I'm experiencing thinking about the site I had halfway built for about 50 BTC last summer, I need something to take my mind off of it.  As a big fan of not only Schadenfruede, but of watching others get bilked out of money due to poor security, or unrelated exchanges, I feel it will be worth the minimal fee associated with purchasing a tear-off type calendar for such a purpose.

What about the guy that lost 25,000 BTC (or whatever it was) a year or two ago?  Now that that's like 17+ million dollars has he hung himself yet?

I know it sounds awful, but BitCoin and Mt. Gox are like those crazy girlfriends who fuck your life up periodically and you're like "Why am I with this bitch?" and then they make you an awesome grilled cheese and tomato soup or something like that.

Anyway, I'm rambling, but you get the point... I know there is a thread for other bitcoin scams and schemes, but I'm specifically interested in when the last GoXXXing occurred so that I can make my calendar Smiley
