701  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Sapphire 6950 v2 non-reference performance on: June 11, 2011, 04:15:59 PM
Ok as these guys said the key is to put power control at +20. I was able to do that when I used CCC, but now I got a 5830 alongside it and CCC had too low limits. So I have to use MSI AB, and I only get 355MH/s on my reference Sapphire 6950 (unlocked) rather than the 405MH/s before. My problem is that with afterburner on, the power control slider resets itself every time you press apply... so anyone have a solution? A proper solution would be worth some bit dimes to me.

MSIAfterburner.cfg:

Set it like this:

[ATIADLHAL]
UnofficialOverclockingEULA   = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it
UnofficialOverclockingMode   = 1

Then you set the settings, close it, reopen it, and it lets you adjust more.

I had to do this a few times to get 300 MHz on the memory clock.

I wish I knew more about economics. Ive just been mining the coins for the last week but if the price continues to drop im willing to buy some as well. How low do you guys think itll go before it starts to rise again.

There's a strong possibility it will go up or down over the coming days, and a smaller chance it may stay the same.
703  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: please go down .. please let there be a correction soon. on: June 11, 2011, 04:49:28 AM
the upside of a decentralized currency is there is no central authority to regulate transactions.  Smiley

Sounds like it should be a Churchill quote, were he still alive!

One could argue that if you carry more physical coins, when you drive to the store, you use slightly more gas, and it takes more gas to go from the store to the bank when they cash out.
705  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Who pays transaction fees on: June 11, 2011, 03:34:01 AM
Who is selling things for 0.001 BTC?  Do you really think the transaction fee would stay at 0.01 if it were $1000 for 1 BTC?

Fancy lawyer latin talk aside, transaction fees even when paid by the seller, are ALWAYS transferred to the buyer, directly or indirectly.  This is economics 101.

the downside of a decentralized currency is there is no central authority to regulate transactions Smiley  It will grow in time though.
707  Economy / Trading Discussion / Overturn Proof Paypal? on: June 11, 2011, 03:25:02 AM
I remember once from years ago when I actually used to use PayPal, that if you were sent a package, even if the stuff was completely broken you couldn't get your money back from the seller.

So what if you're selling BTC to someone, and they want to pay via PayPal?  I was thinking you could mail them a USB stick or DVD or something with the BTC on them, hang on to the tracking number, and use that as your proof on PayPal if they tried to overturn it?

Any thoughts?  I still hate PayPal and have used it maybe once in the last two years, but I'm thinking there's a lot I'll need to do via PayPal if I want to get equipment off of ebay, etc.
708  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Re: Selling my bitcoins for paypal on: June 11, 2011, 03:22:52 AM
What's the exchange rate for Wooden Nickels per Paypal Dollar these days?

PayPal is the devil if you're a seller.
709  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Re: Help set up a rig for a complete noob on: June 11, 2011, 03:20:10 AM
*nix fanboyism aside, the bitcoin hardware guide doesn't seem to show an appreciable difference in speed for Windows vs *nix, so I would suggest if you're a "noob" stick to windows.
710  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Who pays transaction fees on: June 11, 2011, 03:18:17 AM
Now, had you taken that 1 BTC, held on to it for another couple of days, and sold it, you would have ended up with 5-15$ profit.  Thus 90 cents is sort of irrelevant at that point.  Or, if you had spent exactly 1 BTC you bought at $18 for something that costs $40 USD, the 5% BTC wouldn't have mattered either.
711  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Re: selling 6 btc on: June 11, 2011, 01:54:09 AM
looking t sell 6 btc @ the current mt gox price of 26.35 - paypal transaction. I am a trusted dealer, I have dealt with Maxxx many times and he can vouch for me. First pm gets them!

I'd be hesitant to buy anything from somebody who can't read that they're posting something for sale in the "buying" forum
712  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why are bitcoins generated when one mines a block? on: June 11, 2011, 01:50:48 AM
awesomely simple explanation.  Very helpful.
713  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Who pays transaction fees on: June 11, 2011, 01:45:13 AM
well maybe i'm just complaining then.  Here was my real life example that made me start this post.

I sent two people .50 bitcoins each

The fee was 0.05...

thats 5%

Also,

I had to give up 2.5% to mining pool who sold the bitcoins

I had to pay .65% to mtgox to convert dollars into bitcoins

so i'm paying 8.15% in fees to spend 1 bitcoin??  I don't fully understand the fee structure so it seemed excessive.

How much did you pay for that 1 bitcoin?  And how much did you sell it for?  Did you sell it for more or less than 8.15% above what you paid for it?
714  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DDoS on deepbit again? on: June 10, 2011, 09:14:37 PM
You're better off just taking the variance and solo-mining.

But people are greed-machines, as the pool operator statistics show...

I see it differently... If someone said "I will pay you $97 a month, guaranteed, if you do this work" versus "If you work for me, you'll get either $100 or $0, and you won't know which", I'd rather invest the $3 in a guaranteed paycheck.

I'm more of an investor type than a casino type, but that doesn't mean my way is right.  Just right for me Smiley
715  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DDoS on deepbit again? on: June 10, 2011, 08:59:13 PM
I have something even stranger now... I have 1 GPU connecting with no issue, and the other one can't connect.  Very strange.
716  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Dual 5870s, 600 MH/s stock settings on: June 10, 2011, 08:55:02 PM
Getting 390 MH/s with 925 core/300 memory right now... temperature looks like it will stay at 80C or below.  Going to let it run for a bit and stabilize before I tweak any more.

MSI Afterburner worked a treat.  A little less user friendly than I'd like at first, but nothing I couldn't figure out with a little extra effort Smiley
717  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / DDoS on deepbit again? on: June 10, 2011, 08:41:33 PM
Connection seems to be going up and down, as well as network hashrate... I think if this is the case, some sort of script should be implemented on the server side, that if someone with no login tries to connect with the same IP a certain # of times, they should get blacklisted.  That will sort out who is a miner and who is doing the DDoS.
718  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: THE PRICE OF BITCOINS IS CRASHING SELL SELL SELL on: June 10, 2011, 08:25:20 PM
If you're worried about losing value in your BTC wallet, just sell quietly.  If you tell EVERYBODY its going down, you won't get as much back.

Thus, there are two forms of logic for a post like this:

1.) Trying to drive price down to buy
2.) Mild to moderate retardation, and/or Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

720  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Dual 5870s, 600 MH/s stock settings on: June 10, 2011, 08:20:09 PM
well with one of my two cards running at 91 degrees c, my primary focus right now is getting the temp down.  I want to make some money for a bit, then I can start to fine tune my scripts, etc.

I have two ATI brand 5870s.  I'm getting a fairly stead 640-700MH/s right now with totally stock settings, and aggression between 7 and 11.  While running hot, the temps have been stable at least.  I also have two cards stacked directly on top of each other, which isn't exactly ideal.

Aside from Trixx, does anyone else have any suggestions for overclocking tools for Radeon?  I've used RivaTuner back in my nvidia days
