621  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Re: 60 BTC - Need PHP/Web Design for BitCoin related project, will pay with BTC on: June 16, 2011, 07:14:24 PM
Can you PM me a full specification? Also, I assume your server can run bitcoind.

its hosted at godaddy - can be either linux or windows hosting.  hope that helps re: bitcoind

What else do you need aside from this thread for "full specifications"?

Did you even read what I said? /sigh  If you disagree with my logic, then give a logical response.  Don't just make some shit up that I clearly never said.

So far the best answer I have gotten was from jgarzik who stated that it wasn't really doable.  But he never said why.

Looks like you missed my post: http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=14789.msg218966#msg218966

You still haven't explained how your system would work. Remember that bitcoins, like cash, are sometimes exchanged between two ordinary people, not just between a "merchant" and a "consumer". How would it work in this case?

Bitcoin doesn't differentiate between the two.  You really, really can send BTC without paying transaction fees, honest.  I do it 3 times per 24 hours.

lol I suppose thats agreeable if you can get your buddy to accept me as the judge and jury on this one
624  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: the three doors problem, increasing the chance of finding the right hash on: June 16, 2011, 05:14:37 PM
I'd like you both to post pictures of your erect penises next to a ruler, and I will judge.

Grading will be scored in the following categories:

Length
Girth
Angle of the Dangle
Skin tone
General Appeal

Points will be awarded from 1-10 in each category, with a maximum possible score of 50.  I will give the winner 5 BTC, and we will also pronounce them the winner of this thread.
625  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Re: 60 BTC - Need PHP/Web Design for BitCoin related project, will pay with BTC on: June 16, 2011, 04:51:50 PM
I just upped the budget to 60 BTC as follows:

10 BTC to be paid out when the graphical (non-programming) part of the website is complete with logos and a "feel"
10 BTC when programming reaches point where users are able to create an account and login
10 BTC when users are able to send bitcoins to their account

remaining 30 BTC to be paid out as various private milestones and completion are reached.

Plan to have 5-10 hours worth of work per month minimum for ongoing maintenance and new features, to be negotiated separately (in other words I don't expect you to continue to make changes for free once we get the project up and running)
626  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I wish to move 250.000$, how do I do that? on: June 16, 2011, 04:32:53 PM
Once its safely stored in BTC there is no problem from my point of view. Its going to be the currency of the future anyway, its just a matter of time before enough merchants start offering BTC payments and it will be used for the majority of internet purchases.

But sure cashing out is also convenient to do, but again, its all about time I am sure.
If I had $250k of BitCoin I'd be cashing a lot of it and paying off my mortgage. Given the choice between being a slave now and maybe very rich tomorrow, or being free forever but most likely poor in the future, I'd choose the latter every time.

+1

I hope that the NSA creates a mining pool that pays similar to BTC if it fails.  Be a shame to let all that hashing power go to waste...

America... fuck yeah! comin' to save the muthafuckin' day yeah!
628  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: the three doors problem, increasing the chance of finding the right hash on: June 16, 2011, 04:28:11 PM
I think at least half of us here can agree, that this is a stupid, stupid discussion that this has deteriorated into.  NewEgg cares about BTC, and make sure to keep the obsolete cards in stock that we like.  Certain manufacturers like MSI probably keep stocking up with a limited number of AMD stuff because it's consistent business.  AMD itself is unconcerned.
629  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Who pays transaction fees on: June 16, 2011, 04:24:39 PM
I understand why we need transaction fees.

Quote from: jhansen858
I agree someone has to pay it.

This is a person who is interested in a decentralized cryptocurrency who wants to regulate it and have it free of fees, and just have everybody process transactions for free, and provide their electricity and machines to him.

I did.  Remember when I listed the hardware necessary, and the money to build such a transaction network, coming in around a million dollars?  That was the why.
630  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hacker got to my MTGOX account, he converted the USD I had...... on: June 16, 2011, 04:59:03 AM
What does KeePass do, is that one of those things that saves your passwords so you don't have to type them in?  Sort of defeats the point, no?

I would say good thing you learned your lesson at 10 BTC instead of 100 BTC or 1000 BTC.
631  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: the three doors problem, increasing the chance of finding the right hash on: June 16, 2011, 04:57:37 AM
Why don't we have The Price is Right have an episode where instead of a car, it's 2,000 BTC, and then this will be a relevant conversation Smiley

Why don't you make such a suggestion to the show?

Or maybe the two people who DONT win have to go on a date with Drew Carey!
632  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Who pays transaction fees on: June 16, 2011, 04:56:14 AM
I'll just add as a final point:

Folks do understand that fees have a very real and very needed purpose?

When coins are no longer coming into the network (21,000,000 coins in 2030).  Why would anyone mine?

They mine, because they get the transaction fees in the block they add.

If there are no transaction fees, there will be no miners, and no transactions will ever be confirmed.

No transaction fees = No miners (at some point in the future).

Consider it a "sales tax".  You pay that on every transaction you use your credit cards for, and it's WAY higher than the fees we're talking about here for Bitcoin.  They serve a purpose, at some point they will be the only reason to mine.  Without miners we have no Bitcoin economy.

The guy is a total clown... he has no concept of economics or of the purpose of BitCoin.  In his world, transactions are powered by Sunshine and Rainbows.
633  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why the price didnt go up ? on: June 16, 2011, 04:54:42 AM
Moreso than difficulty or miners is perception... It's not even been a week since the price went from like $14 to $40

Just a clarification, the all time high on Mt. Gox exchange was just under $32, so about 20 % below your mention.

Also, for the record -- the forum user bitcoinminer has no association with @BitcoinMiner twitter account or http://www.BitcoinMiner.com

OK?? lol yes, that totally changes this... wild swings from $14 to $32 to $10 to $20 in a 24 hour period had nothing to do with perception of traders...

I dont claim to have a twitter account OR a website in my sig, or in any of my posts, but thanks for clearing up the confusion you helped create...
634  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 4.5 million BTC sent in 24 hours? on: June 16, 2011, 01:05:58 AM
Guess all you want, there is no way to know.  Maybe Silk Road has had a record sales day.

It seems to me a road made of silk wouldn't hold up well to today's cars and SUVs.
635  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why the price didnt go up ? on: June 16, 2011, 01:04:59 AM
I think the key point that everyone is missing is that this difficulty increase didn't actually affect the amount of bitcoins coming into the market.  Somewhere today we hit 12 terahash and thus the supply of bitcoin hasn't decreased.

The supply of new bitcoins doesn't change (much), that's the major point of the difficulty retargeting.  The daily new supply of bitcoins is fairly constant.  Price didn't go up because price doesn't follow difficulty.  Corrolation isn't causation, children.  You have to look at which metric leads the other.  Price changes consistantly lead difficulty changes, because a spike in the exchange price attracts new miniers.  Why is this concept difficult to understand?

miniers - noun - like a regular miner, only smaller Smiley

What's strange to me, is with this most recent difficulty increase, maybe my pool is lucky, but I'm consistently getting about 30% more BTC per day!

I would say that if you get a statistically significant batch of new miners, say 10% in a short time period, that would drive the price up, but again, separate from difficulty.

Moreso than difficulty or miners is perception... It's not even been a week since the price went from like $14 to $40 and back down to $10 in 24 hours.  Looking at the market depth, I see a lot of people looking to sell, not a lot looking to buy, but differently from usual, the sellers are just holding on to their BTC rather than lowering their selling price.  Seems a lot of people may be examining last weeks carnage and "waiting it out" to see what happens.

I include myself in that group - BTC is extra income for me, rather than my sole source of income, so I don't have that same "need" to sell.

Why don't NVIDIA and Intel develop a processor that only does 1 hash per second, but it's always the exact right one?
637  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Extended Difficulty Forecast on: June 16, 2011, 12:57:10 AM
The price will stay below $22 for the next week, followed by a slow creep up to 28-30 in two weeks.  Use those numbers and tell me what happens Smiley
638  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Monitor - High-Altitude 'Snakes' on: June 16, 2011, 12:55:08 AM
...or day trading with lots of BTC at their command... if you have a big enough block of BTC it is relatively easy to manipulate a market this small... Somebody buys 1,000 BTC and drives the price up a dollar or two, sells, and buys it when it bottoms out again.  Thats what that chart looks like to me.
639  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / 4.5 million BTC sent in 24 hours? on: June 16, 2011, 12:46:53 AM
Why is Mt. Gox showing such little activity with that much BTC changing hands?
640  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Re: Looking for Writers for Articles related to Precious Metals on: June 16, 2011, 12:41:46 AM
I'd be interested, but not at $30 for 2,000 words... that's quite a bit of writing... You're talking 40 minutes of typing at 50 WPM uninterrupted, without stopping to think or research.
