401  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - Dwolla is being scammed and reversing transactions on: August 01, 2011, 11:47:51 PM
When will people stop being surprised when people get Goxed?  Nice guy, but what is needed is a business professional and some programming professionals.  Professional doesn't just mean the most technical debugging skill - it means doing it correctly and not on live databases, or taking out peoples money for weeks on end, or .. or .. or ..

If you guys want BTC to become a successful currency, you have to start acting like it's really money, whether you are the giver or receiver of funds, as an individual or a business.

I see too many entitled people whining about what they've lost, gotten stolen, can't access their basket full of eggs in one basket, etc.

Use your brains.  Diversify.  Spread out the risk.
402  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins are now Mobile and EASY - QR/Wallet/Android/iOS - MtGox Mobile on: July 26, 2011, 09:04:45 PM
My password for Gox is too difficult to remember.  I think I need to write it on a sticker and put it on the back of my phone.
403  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How long until someone can live on Bitcoins only? (10 BTC Bounty) on: July 26, 2011, 09:03:53 PM
You technically can already.  You can buy meat, jerky, hotels, motels, socks, shirts with bitcoin.  If you own a house you can buy solar panels.

1x4d2A4tbNkmcfN1g7X1qCQMsTMx7SdjC send it
You missed this part... must have been the bold:

"I will pay out 10 BTC to the first person that can prove to me that they've achieved the above.  Proof includes links to websites of businesses with which transactions occurred (to prove they officially accept Bitcoin - not required for proof of rent paid) as well as scans/photos of receipts."

404  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - Why we no longer accept Dwolla and an open letter to Ben Milne on: July 26, 2011, 09:02:18 PM
I wonder if Dwolla's investors are even aware of this situation,

Veridian Group and TMG investment:
https://www.veridiancu.org/
http://www.themembersgroup.com/

Why would they care?  If it were DWOLLA having to shell out the thousands in bogus transactions, they'd care.  When they see income drop from Tradehill not accepting them, then they'll care.
405  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: gambling for bitcoins: is there any legal precedent? on: July 26, 2011, 09:00:47 PM
Can I gamble on your site for bitcoins, and have them automatically converted to drugs and hookers?  CasinoRoad? Or SilkCasino?  The profit potential is ass-tronomical.
406  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins are now Mobile and EASY - QR/Wallet/Android/iOS - MtGox Mobile on: July 26, 2011, 08:59:22 PM
Can I get iGoxed on the go, or only DroidGoxed?
407  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone keeps sending me BTC - what do? on: July 26, 2011, 08:58:20 PM
Perhaps someone is confident that they can have your wallet.dat at will and is trying to 'launder' value through your identity.  That would be a method I might employ if I had need to cover my tracks. (I would probably leave you with your initial balance since I am not a thief...though it could be argued that using your existence in this way would be a form of theft.)

Note that this is a _hypothesis_ and nothing more.  Many people get confused on the meaning of that word.

^^^ This.  That was my gut feeling.  Anybody who is able to generate that quantity of BTC at current difficulty is smart enough to know they're not receiving their deposits... so either you have a Great Expectations anonymous benefactor (Spoiler Alert: It was the convict he gave vittles!), or someone is about to rob you.  I'd generate a new wallet, move the coins, change your passwords everywhere, etc. and do some serious spyware scanning.

Worst case scenario, you're being paranoid, but have raised your security and technical knowledge in the process.

If not, PLEASE don't come crying in here about how all your BTC were stolen.

Best of luck!
408  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - Why we no longer accept Dwolla and an open letter to Ben Milne on: July 26, 2011, 08:54:50 PM
I wish you'd have lawyers get involved in this.

You'd have a decent case considering they have no terms and conditions listed on their website.

You'd also be tied up for months/years trying to get money.

He's doing the right thing - by refusing to allow deposits from them, he is hitting them in the wallet, where they will feel it the loudest and the quickest.
409  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - Why we no longer accept Dwolla and an open letter to Ben Milne on: July 26, 2011, 08:52:49 PM
On another note, if you guys are their second biggest customer, they will I'm sure notice the sudden lack of money on their side.

I think I should just open a service for changing dollars into bitcoins lol... Cash only!!!  It's crazy how much all of these various merchants (paypal, banks, etc) are slanted towards tolerating scamming.

It's not even just one way - PayPal has managed to f*ck me as a buyer and a seller on numerous occasions.  I always ask them the same question - "I can take someones money through paypal, and you guys wont give it back to them?  AWESOME!"
410  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - Why we no longer accept Dwolla and an open letter to Ben Milne on: July 26, 2011, 08:48:29 PM
What is the story with withdrawals?  I have a pending withdrawal of USD->Dwolla I'm waiting on.

Withdrawals are processing fine. We are manually doing everything to make sure we don't cash out a scammer so there may be a slight delay.
Shoot an email to info@tradehill.com if it's not taken care of half an hour.

Jered

It's been 3.5 hours already.  I'll email, thanks

412  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Introducing Bitbills! on: July 26, 2011, 08:37:40 PM
I was on the order page, and quickly decided against purchasing when I saw the shipping charges.  I'm sorry, but $3.50 (.25 BTC) for shipping is insane for something that fits inside an envelope.  Take the .25 BTC shipping + .15 BTC Fee for the 1 BTC card, and it just fundamentally does not make sense unless you go up to the larger amounts like 20 BTC card.  This is after slashing your fees in half?

Outside of that, it is a good idea, and one I would like to own.  However, you are acting just like the ebay sellers and infomercial producers, who inflate shipping prices in hopes that people won't notice.

How about you print a bit bill of equal quality, ship it better for less money, and we'll all order from you?  How much are you asking for them?  What are you charging for shipping?  What is your estimated delivery time?  I'll go 1.125 BTC for a 1 BTC bitbill.
413  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - Dwolla is being scammed and reversing transactions on: July 26, 2011, 06:40:14 PM
Now suppose someone swipes your Dwolla password. There are STILL people out there who haven't changed their passwords since the MtGox incident and are STILL getting their accounts broken into and their money stolen.

Good!  Expensive lessons are not soon forgotten.
414  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Conference and World Expo 2011 NYC on: July 25, 2011, 03:47:45 AM
I'd go.  Even if its just people hanging out.

I'd even be happy with just hanging out if it was a weekend event.  Like all day Saturday and a half-day Sunday.  But four days of that would be a bit much.

Yeah... I'd go to a one day event... I have a pretty short attention span Smiley
415  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Make www.freelancer.com accept Bitcoins! on: July 25, 2011, 03:42:56 AM
The fact that you are dealing with lots of fraud is perhaps the best reason to look into Bitcoin. Zero percent chance of chargebacks and "fake cards."  Bitcoin is more safe than other forms of online payment.

Exactly.  Just ask Allinvain or MagicalTux about how secure Bitcoin is!
416  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Conference and World Expo 2011 NYC on: July 25, 2011, 03:40:02 AM
I'd go.  Even if its just people hanging out.  I think whomever is in charge of organizing should reach out to people and see if they are willing to speak.  Perhaps pay them in bitcoins Smiley

I know most of the people here in the general area would love to present stuff about their BTC websites.

I'm actually working on something I would like to debut there, but I don't know if it will be ready in time.
417  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just got hacked - any help is welcome! (25,000 BTC stolen) on: July 22, 2011, 03:42:22 PM
Jesus, let this zombie thread DIE already.
418  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Who's buying? on: July 08, 2011, 11:17:54 PM
Finally got some DwollaBillz into Tradehill today and bought whatever I could afford.  Not day trading, just buying and sloooooowly mining away with the massive difficulty albatross around my neck.  But still, bitcents is bitcents Smiley

I hope we see it push back up near $20 again.  I'm not looking for it to go to $30+ again in the short term, but a consistent $18-$20 would certainly make the mining a little bit more worthwhile.
419  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am putting Bitcoin.us domain name up for auction. on: July 08, 2011, 11:10:08 PM

420  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ATTN!!] Bitcoin Security nearly Breached on: July 08, 2011, 11:09:05 PM

In the immortal words of one proud miner:
... I am here simply to mine bitcoin and make a profit.  I don't really care if bitcoin fails. ...

That makes all of the Bitcoin ground pretty damn shaky... Cheesy

And you're interested in Bitcoin to what, buy rainbows and gumdrops for all the third world children?
