221  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 365 day 100$ trading challenge. Win the contest attached and make free BTC!!!! on: January 15, 2019, 06:33:34 PM
Like I stated in the post above. I got stuck in ETH at a higher level. Yesterday night I got back to break even point and sold my ETH without profit but my balance kept the same.
Are you saying you are trading without a stop loss? So if it goes the opposite way you just wait for it to return? If that is what you do, you may be lucky and it comes back, but it also may happen that the waiting is prolonged, and you have to wait even months if not longer.
222  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which is Fastest TPS and most secured crypto blockchain ? on: January 15, 2019, 02:35:57 PM
1> which is the fastest, most  secured and decentralised blockchain already working ( i.e mainnet already running)

1. fastest and most secure? Bitcoin. Because it is the most secure blockchain out there by far. You can have higher speed that some other chains promise, but if someone double spend your coins tomorrow, what good does this speed bring?
223  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hi everyone, let's talk about Bitcoin on: January 15, 2019, 01:48:42 PM
Welcome to the forum. If you are a bitcoin follower from 2013 then you must be one of the lucky persons who came in early and accumulate some coins at a much lower price. If that is the case then great. I am sorry to say I was not among the early followers, so there is nothing I can do about it now. In my opinion quantum resistance is not so important even though some people actively push this agenda. It is good to have quantum resistant currencies just in case some abrupt computer technology development changes the scene. But I doubt that will happen soon and I think there is no real danger to the current coins which are not resistant, at least for years if not decades from now.

Thanks for your input. Smiley

Why do you think quantum computing is not a real threat to blockchain and actual elliptic curve based cryptography? The whole internet privacy as we know would be broken in the event of a QC sudden advance in that field of technology. I think this is one of the hottest topic to keep an eye on for the future coming.

Yes, it would affect elliptic curve cryptography but there are many aspects to the problem:

Besides by the time quantum computers have become a real danger to the algo, bitcoin will have moved on with its development.
224  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum hard fork, bitcoin rumors, future outcome? on: January 15, 2019, 12:02:26 PM
We’ve also expected ethereum price to spike leading up to split. However, prices remain low. What’s the likelihood that ethereum will rise following the hardfork?
Yes it is logical the price to spike before the split, not after. The chances are now that ETH will remain low. Unless bitcoin with some breaking news pulls everything up. With regards to other nations like Russia investing in bitcoin, it would be wise on their part if they invest, but they don't seem to get it. The nation that gets it, and has some money to invest, will be a huge winner one day when bitcoin starts to rule over all the other currencies, including fiat, crypto, bonds, and others.
225  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: CRAPTOPIA all ur coins are haX0red on: January 15, 2019, 11:28:46 AM
I have some minor amounts of ETN coins with cryptopia, so I won't have any regret if they go down for good. Any details as to how the hack was performed? Aren't there some security flags and/or security mechanisms when you initiate 19,000 ETH withdrawal from a hot wallet on cryptopia? Anyhow that is why we desperately need some good decentralized exchanges to replace these traditional exchanges.

227  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Tron Price Rises 53% in Five Days – Is This TRX Run Sustainable? on: January 14, 2019, 07:59:39 PM
I think the run is sustainable or we may even see further growth after a consolidation, because here we see in practice the real utility aspect of a coin (TRX in this case). Usually the price is speculatively driven. Hype, marketing and greed. But in this case we have something tangible that may launch TRX even further. Great development.
228  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Question about PoS algorithm on: January 14, 2019, 06:19:36 PM
Just a small correction:
So, it's physically impossible to mine blocks much faster than every 10 minutes (sometimes it's possible to mine them a bit faster though).
This is not entirely true. It takes 10 minutes on average to mine a block. Because luck is involved, it may happen that you mine the next block right after the previous one, a couple of seconds apart from each other. Or the next block may take 20 minutes to mine. All you can say is that if you take a long period of time, like a week or so, the average time between 2 blocks will be close to 10 minutes.
229  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Supports Ethereum Constantinople Hard Fork on: January 14, 2019, 03:57:38 PM
It will be interesting to see how it goes. It should reduce the block reward from 3 to 2 Eth, I am curious what the miners have to say. Ethereum is still not moving to proof of stake in spite of the previous plans. The dev team seems to be introducing something like lightning for off-chain transactions. I wonder, isn't that premature? Even Bitcoin's LN is still in test phase. The other changes are related to the software that runs on the blockchain, like ERC 20, changes in costs for gas, and similar.
230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How Can I Detect If A platform is decentralised Or not !! on: January 14, 2019, 02:35:42 PM
Decentralization was one of the biggest lies ever seen in this world related to crypto. Huge lie.
I think you are right. Unfortunately decentralization as imagined by Satoshi doesn't exist today. They are all centralized more or less. It could only be argued that some of the alts are more centralized than others. Another point to consider is that all new alts, by virtue of their nature, are very very centralized. And yet another, proof of work alts are less centralized than Proof of Stake alts.
231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Attacker Returns $100K to Gate.io after Ethereum Classic 51% Attack on: January 14, 2019, 02:25:24 PM
It could very well be that the attacker just wanted to prove a point. To let them know it is doable. Gate.io and the other exchanges should also make something to protect their funds better against 51% attacks. For one they can increase the confirmation time. And these less important alts should do something to increase their hash power, although I know it is a hard thing to do in market like this.
232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to recognize a good time to sell a coin? on: January 10, 2019, 08:58:25 PM
There is always the danger that the coin may die if you hold it for too long, there is nothing you can do about it. The less known the coin, the greater the danger. As for selling, the best thing I can think of is to sell it when everyone is buying. That probably means that you will have to wait for the next bitcoin bull run because then, more or less, all altcoins gain in value and people are actively buying them. But as you said, the danger is that the coin may die (or depreciate in value too much) while you wait for the next bull run to happen. I am afraid the risk is always there, even if the altcoin is among the established ones.
233  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Will the crypto still be in 2050? on: January 09, 2019, 08:09:21 PM
2050 is too far ahead but I think in 2050 there will be no fiat money. Just crypto. I think we should wait another 10 years probably for mass adoption and after 10 years there will be no turning back. So if you ask me not only will crypto be more developed than now, in 40 years there will be no fiat money. Why would anyone still be using fiat as an inflationary form of money when there is a much better form which is cryptocurrency.
234  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: IBM introduced the first commercial quantum computer ! on: January 09, 2019, 07:14:01 PM
It will have no implications on mining. Nobody is going to use a quantum computer for mining. It's too expensive for that. Quantum computers might have some implications on the security of the private keys. But we are years if not decades away from the point where this is a real danger. So there are no worries.
235  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Recently, developers are increasingly refusing to fulfill their promises. on: January 08, 2019, 01:09:05 PM
I think you are very much spot on. Your description seems to fit the majority of ICOs that are presently operating in the crypto space. And not only do they fail to fulfill their obligations, they are also not afraid to promise unrealistic things even though they know they are not able to deliver. That being said, you can find some really decent projects and honest developers every now and then. But in my opinion too many ICOs are scam or borderline scam.
236  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will STO survive? on: January 08, 2019, 10:06:32 AM
Security token is nothing more than a normal token with additional regulations. If regulations are added to a normal token it is proclaimed to be a security token. As such, the security token is regulated by the government bodies and should be compliant with the various SEC regulations. It can also be penalized by the government bodies for not complying. So a STO is more or less the same as the ICO with added regulation to it. Because of the increased security and because of the improved credibility, this is good for the investors but it doesn't imply that the STO will always be successful. The buyer has to be responsible for his decisions and capable to access the quality of the STO he is about to invest in or otherwise he may lose his investment.
237  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETF and Bakkt will have effect, but BTC halving is the main deal. on: January 08, 2019, 09:01:52 AM
I agree with you because it is a no-brainer. The halving will diminish the supply of bitcoins which will lead to increase in price. I think the halving effect will be visible before the actual halving. People will anticipate the  price increase and the market will become bullish much sooner than mid 2020. As far as ETF and Bakkt are concerned I am not really interested in them. People put so much hope in ETF and Bakkt as if bitcoin depends on it. In my opinion they are not important for the long term future of bitcoin. They may lead to short term gains, but long term bitcoin will take care of itself.

238  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: “Turtle Trading strategy” implementations on: January 07, 2019, 12:11:19 PM
if my crypto exchange does not have a stop loss function. What should I do then?

There is not much you can do but change the exchange. (Or stay by your computer all the time monitoring the price, which is pretty cumbersome if you ask me) No serious trader would trade without a stop loss. In my opinion trading without a stop loss is a recipe for disaster. The major part of my personal loses originate from the time I didn't care about stop losses, so I didn't use them. Now I regret that deeply.

   2. When to open a position
The action of opening a position comes from the generation of a trend breakthrough signal. If the current price breaks through the upper track, it will generate a buy position signal.

I tried using Donchian channel once, but it somehow gave a me lot of false signals so I gave up. I may revisit it in the future, as it showed some promise. It seemed to me that it could be especially good for trend following, which I think this system does very well. A question: How about waiting for 2 consecutive breaks through the upper track? Is such a signal more trustworthy than using just one break through the upper Donchian line?

240  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Now let us predict the unicorn of 2019,whales are accumulating on: January 06, 2019, 10:48:03 PM
I am looking for a unicorn in 2019. Can anyone tell me that a few positions are very concentrated coin?

I won't even think about looking for such an altcoin before a new bitcoin bull run. I will wait first for bitcoin to recover from this bear market. No one knows how long that will take, but I won't risk anything before the bears are defeated. And only then will I look for a promising altcoin to invest in for a 20x profit.
