1122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Curious why so many people are invested in Shitty bitcoin companies? on: June 19, 2013, 01:58:36 AM
In my ignorance, most tiny startup companies seem like a bad deal... or a very random one. However, a few people with inside information (probably friends of the founders) might know something we don't and think it's a really good investment.

That's one possibility anyway.

Thinking the same thing here. I think a lot is family and friends buying in.
1123  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Frog: Bring Bitmessage mainstream! on: June 19, 2013, 01:37:30 AM
i already thought bitmessage was easier to use than email. installing the program and running it was far more painless than filling out some form to get an email account. if you are going to make it even easier still than that sounds awesome.

It will be interesting to see how he does it but I hope it is true.
1124  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Next big thing...? on: June 19, 2013, 01:36:25 AM
Group thoughts on the next big internet thing for distributed computing....?

I started mining in about Q3 2011 and have had a great time. Not a financial millionaire from it though and wish I had followed my own advice and invested more up front. So basically lesson learnt the hard way on investing time , money or resources and I am looking fo rhte next big thing on distributed computing through which I can invest my time and resources into improving the product, furthering the cause and paying down my mega-mortgage in the process.

Hence the reach out for brain storming activities with this fine bunch of knowledgable persons.

P.S. I have a Masters degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering and can self teach software skills  Smiley

GAME ON

I can just feel something BIG is coming!  Shocked

I mean there's not repurcusions if the party receives bitcoins and doesn't deliver a project. where'as with paypal/credit cards it can be tracked what party received it and they could be sued etc. if failed to deliver (ran with the money)

just pointing out a general detriment of this site, because I didn't see the 'bitcoinstarter' original thread

This is a unique problem in the Bitcoin ecosystem and one I'd love to work with Bitcoinstarter in the future on to resolve. We have an enormous advantage in the movement of money, but a massive disadvantage in accountability and transparency. Thus there needs to be some work to add meta-data and features to certain addresses in order to make kickstarter like projects more fair to all parties.

Sorry for being late to the party here. I couldn't agree more regarding accountability and transparency being an issue not just for projects /our site but all services of the Bitcoin eco-system. At some point there has to be trust or we have to become the escrow between the two parties. I think it is safer then having a direct payment address go right to the party and then they can take off before they get what they need even.  I don't think in the long run it would be wise for us to take off with a project creators Bitcoin purse after its successful as it would do us no good. Then there is the whole , I don't want to leave any coins on the site which is understandable. If people want they could donate at the last minute and not leave any coins on the site. I'm open to suggestions and feedback!

im sure eventually this can be built into the bitcoin system

Yeah, there should be some way to make it all work.

It's a great idea! BM is a bit complicated and the idea of P2P is very attractive. The community will embrace such application.

It is so complicated I was like how the hell does this work. Hopefully, this will solve it.
1136  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CoinFunder.com - Crowdfunding Campaigns to Spread Adoption of Bitcoin on: June 17, 2013, 08:06:14 PM
I wouldn't even compare Bitfunder and Coinfunder

  • Coinfunder is strictly crowd sourcing with clear goals, descriptions, and rewards. (similar to kick-starter)
  • BitFunder has a different feature (which is IPO/Shares Investments) and you don't really hear the goals of the developer or business.

These are two different businesses with two different business models.

bitfunder is clearly the most mature and most-accepted site overall, it would only require very minor changes/additions to be generally useful. Sent a message to its founder.

You are correct.  Bitfunder is equity-based crowdfunding ( technically illegal ) at the moment. GLSBE was shut down because of this.

Coinfunder / BitcoinStarter / RaiseCoins are all in the mold of Kickstarter type model.

Looks interesting. Some of your images are broken, however.

I am lead developer and the images are broken cause the user's host is blocking hot linking the image.

This ^^.

I think this is a very much needed project! Wish you the best with it.
Thank you! I've begun a little work on some really early backend stuff, and moltenmich offered to make a better logo!

Perfect. A logo would be nice! Sounds like you are aiming for August to start development?
