This poked my curiosity about something I have been thinking about recently.  Firstly, can we have the POS details updated in the OP please, I keep forgetting what they are :-)

My understanding is that the max coin age is 1 day (not sure if its based on real time or based on number of network blocks). I assume blocks, so interest earned should not be affected by the change in average block time, It would just take a bit longer in real world time before we get it.

However, if the max coin age is only 1 day (or 2880 blocks); I would think that our actual overall interest rate is much less than the 5%.  In order to get the full 5% annual interest, none of our coins can age beyond 1 day.  I haven't done the exact math, but it looks like I have roughly 1/6 or less of my coins that are under 2880 confirmations (my wallet has been open for days).  This would lead me to believe the real world interest at the end of the day is actually less than 1% ??

I could be talking out my ass here, but this is how I am understanding it.

I realize the importance and the reason we significantly reduced the max coin age, but if what I said above is true, would it be a good idea to increase the max coin age so that's its practical to get the full yearly interest ?

Just wanted to say that I very much enjoy following this thread lately. 

It got a little discouraging a while back.... but things are definitely on the up and up.

I have doubled my coins over the past few days and have some more buy support on Bittrex to continue with my race up the richlist.

Great work Dev team, you guys are really starting to invoke some confidence.

I think keeping things simple is a good idea, as my prof used to say KISS; keep it simple stupid :-)

I can`t comment much on which algo to use, but my thought would be to pick the one that uses very little resources so it can run smoothly and very well on say mobile devices with ease.  From my understanding, future algo changes would be possible, so if ASICS come out for whatever "ASIC resistant algo" is chosen, then we just change it again. no ?

Would it be possible to have the block generation divided equally between scrypt, ASIC-resistant algo and POS ? I think we would just have to make each algo have a 3 minute block time....however, I am getting well beyond my technical knowledge of how this all works, but I think that would be quite interesting if possible, best of 3 worlds.

That is an interesting idea as well, will have look more into orbitcoin and neoscrypt.  I am not one to believe that ASICS are the reason for miners dumping, I think it helps stabilize the network if anything.  Whether you throw 100 Mh at a network with 1GH or if you throw 1Mh at a network with 10Mh, its all relative.  However assuming that ASICS will remain comparatively expensive, scrypt may take away the possibility of the average miner not getting a chance to get a piece of the Hempcoin pie (outside of the exchanges).  I am not technical enough to weigh all the advantages/disadvantanges, but think its worth talking about as a community.

I am surprised you find the Hempcoin wallet slower than others, do you have thousands of transactions ?  Even at that, I have thousands and thousands of transactions on my wallet and it still loads faster than most others.  With most other coins, once I get up over a couple thousand transactions, I need to transfer my coins to a new wallet.dat so it loads faster.  On one coin I was forced to load my wallet.dat into a Linux daemon in order to send the coins as my Windows QT wallet would just freeze up and never fully load.

I hope all is well with everyone and hope you all enjoyed Halloween this weekend. 

There has been some great Hempcoin progress lately and I think it's time 'we' as a community need to help give a further push where a push is needed.

I have an idea I would like to throw out there and see what everyone thinks.

We all know there have been issues with the upcoming wallet release.  It seems getting POS working on the new code base is more challenging than anticipated.  We have the option of reverting back to the previous code base (slower, older, not as good), but Hempcoin does not want to settle for an inferior product.  Hempcoin wants to stand out amongst the hundreds of altcoin options out there, Hempcoin is ahead of the game.

We have reached out for assistance and had a few generous members give their time to assist with the wallet.  We are very thankful for their efforts, however thankful is not fixing our POS :-D.  Any help received was out of the goodness of their heart and no incentives were given.  I believe we, as a community need to sweeten the deal and help out our hard working and dedicated development team.

I propose that we start a community donation fund to help get us past this development hiccup.  Keep in mind Hempcoin did not have any premine and I am very proud of all that has been accomplished so far without the need of any premine or donation fund.  This shows a great deal about the nice little community we have growing here.

For added security, we can setup the donation fund with a multisig address ( two-of-four type address).  A unique key would be given to four well known members of the community ( all 4 keys are different).  In order to withdraw funds from this account, 2 of the 4 keys are needed to unlock it.

What do Hempcoinians think ?  good idea or not ?

I for one would love to see the number of POW blocks drastically decrease to put an end to the miners dumping their coins at bittrex.  I think the quicker we can get POS working again, the quicker things will start to happen for Hempcoin.

I would start it off by donating 25,000 THC plus a weeks worth of donations on the hempfield.club pool.  not much, but its just a start.  If there is good community involvement, I would double/triple my donation.

I am confident we can muster together an alluring enough bounty to fix Hempcoin's POS.

we have all seen the hefty 835,000 THC buy support at 135 sat for a while now, it hasn't budged.... maybe pecked at, but nothing more.

I now see a massive sell order of 813,000 THC at 155, maybe someone is trying to keep the price down or needs cash to pay some bills.... I am not sure, but what I do know is this...

last time a large sell order was put up, somebody ate it up pretty darn quickly.... which was then followed by our latest little pump into the mid 600's......  hmmm, is history going to repeat itself ??

I realize there were other factors involved the last time.... but one tends to wonder...

I am not a fan of pumps at all, im in with hempcoin for the long run, but the market activity does bring some healthy attention to the coin.

on another note, thanks to all who have been mining at thc.hempfied.club.  We have a good solid hashrate on the network and are up to 46 registered users and averaging about 14+ concurrent miners at anytime.  Thanks everyone !!

I will be doing a random Hempcoin give away shortly after we hit 50 registered users... not 100% on the details yet; maybe highest/largest donator, maybe the most consistent miner under 5 MH, maybe the highest personal hashrate, maybe the 50th person registered, maybe the 55th or maybe ill just pick names out of a hat..... It will be a surprise !  But, either way, some lucky miner(s) will be happy to see some extra coins sent their way.

I didn't see any stratum outages, I just verified my stratum has been running un-interrupted since the 12th.  there was an issue with the crons and the webpage was not updating the stats for about 6 hours.  Rest assured all your miners were working in the backend.

I have fixed it up and all has propagated to the site, you can now see all stats for this time period.  This has happened a couple times so far, but past times I noticed it right away and fixed it, this time it happened while I was sleeping. :-)

I find it odd that I don't get an email notifications when there is a problem with the crons.... if they outright fail, I get notified, but not when it hiccups like it did here.

side note: I noticed most of the bonus blocks, especially the 7,875 blocks,  are found with a single share submission.  What this means is that the lucky miner that submitted that share gets the entire block payout since the pool uses proportional payouts.  The only way around this, would be to switch the pool to a PPLNS payout system.

What do you guys think ?  

1) keep it at PROP payout and hope you get lucky with the bonus blocks.

or

2) change the payout to PPLNS so the bonus blocks are paid out more evenly.

Personally, I am still for proportional as I find it more fair for the regular blocks, but will set it as whatever you guys feel is best.

do you mean you see 'wierd symbols' when you open it with a text editor (ie.notepad)?  If so, that is normal.

Make sure the filename is wallet.dat and not wallet.dat.txt .

***STEP 1***Make sure you keep your wallet.dat file safe.  I would keep a few copies of it on your PC and a USB stick too before you go any further trying to find the problem.

Do you already have a hempcoin folder in your appData directory ?  If so, there should already by files in there, you don't need to save anything in there.

More miners would help keep away the dumpers, or at least force them to dump at a higher price.

I am renting rigs when I see the hashrate drop, but I can't rent forever.... If I had only saved all the btc used for rentals, I could have my own frigin ASIC by now :-)

Linux wallet ? yes there is, my pool is running on it. Mac wallet, I can't confirm since I am anti-mac.  As far as I know, you don't need a special invite to use the HTML wallet, I think he locked it at one point when it went viral and he was giving out a lot of coins( fartbags can confirm here).  stable pools has been a problem in the past I admit, that's why we got one setup recently.

Honestly, I haven't been following the other coins ( probably should be).  But we have a great hard working community here, anything you see hempcoin was built/developed without the need of bounties.  We have up front, honest and hard working Dev's that did not get any premine.

I can't compare us with the other coins, but I believe many "reasonable" people would or already have chosen Hempcoin as a part of their cryptofolio.

I am sure others can elaborate on the details more than myself.  If you have any other legitimate concerns with Hempcoin, ask away, we are more than happy to answer what we can.

I am no market expert, but i don't think this run is over yet, far from it. 

there are some big buy orders poppinng up, dont let them fool you into selling your coins prematurely.

If you don't sell to them, they will be forced to buy and bring the price up higher.
