5701  Other / Meta / Re: Let's cure the forum together on: November 04, 2018, 11:18:30 AM
<  >

I don't quite understand what you mean by a badge for those that can wear signature. It's either you can or you can't, and as per the new rules, any rank other than newbie can wear signature (this also includes copper member newbie who can wear signature and post images)

And there are different ways of spamming, it's not a straight line, people can be clever when doing it and you won't be able to detect and same repetitive answers twisted over and again would lead to lead to a spam mega thread.
An idea would be to close a thread automatically when the discussion has gone stale and unproductive as users rarely return to their threads.

And I don't see why signature holders should be highlighted, ANY user spamming the forum is at fault, some are paid to bump threads without needing to wear signatures.

Report posts or comment you think is unhelpful or redundant and moderators would look into it, that's how we can put our hands together and maintain the standard of the forum.
5702  Other / Meta / Dashboard upgrade on: November 03, 2018, 12:26:56 PM
Just noticed subtle adjustments made to the links on the forums' dashboard.

Donations link has been removed and merged with copper membership purchasing (how to buy) on a new link,
MORE; https://bitcointalk.org/more.php
In addition to this I feel more helpful links can be added there in the near future to improve user experience.

Looks good to me, what do you think?
5703  Economy / Speculation / Re: Chart may help you predict when the next bitcoin rally is coming on: November 02, 2018, 09:08:24 PM
How much do you use charts or information like this to predict the bitcoin market?

I'm sure they are used often, although with varying degrees of success.
Reading chart is a learned skill that grows with experience. Some are more proficient in it than others.
In addition to technical analysis, foundamental analysis is also helpful in predicting the market movements.
It is if course a prediction, and when the next bull run would come may be too specific an information to deduce.
5704  Other / Archival / Re: What happens after entire minning of 21 million bitcoins is done? on: November 02, 2018, 12:36:25 PM
<  >

From your explanation, bitcoin can be likened to about every mineral resource which cannot be simply generated but resource has to be used to mine them and they have finite supply.

About what would happen when all bitcoin are mined (as I doubt there's any chance the program would be adjusted).
A limited supply, means increase in demand against supply and would be good for the value.
You see how projects like BNB use reducing supply to increase the value.
Miners would be compensated with transaction fees alone as there would be no more BTC reward.

It is not going to happen in this generation, so I'd not be too bothered about it.
5705  Other / Meta / Re: Adding a master account field to profiles. on: November 02, 2018, 12:17:54 PM
<  >

I have a fairly good command of the English language.
And illegitimate could be used to refer to a dubious, illegal, against the law or spurious account.

A better way to put it would be acknowledged, or overt alt accounts and covert ones.
5706  Other / Meta / Re: Adding a master account field to profiles. on: November 02, 2018, 10:11:43 AM
I've just been re-reading the alt account threads here, and it occurred to me that it could be useful to include a reference to a master account in the profiles of legitimate alts.

There is no such thing as an illegitimate alt account as multiple accounts is allowed in the forum.
And a rule breaker would be reprimanded irrespective of number of accounts.

And users create alts for different reasons, one of which could be to separate your identity from an opinion you might have. And enter discussions incognito.
You can always add a link to your primary account in your signature or personal text, if you deem it necessary.

I don't even know what is ICQ,AIM,YIM? Maybe they were too much outdated for the current modern world.

They are out of date, but I think it shows the originality of the forum. And would give some a nostalgic feeling.
A futuristic technology displaying out dated ones, how ideal.
5707  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Rank changed from Jr Member to Newbie on: October 30, 2018, 12:36:36 PM
While you were away, a new rank system was implemented.
Jr members without a single merit were denoted back to newbie. That's why your ranked dropped, to return to Jr member you need at least one merit.
And to do that you need to make it a habit to read, (it wouldn't have taken you long to see the post regarding the new rules)
And this post is more suited for meta board.
5708  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: DO YOU ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT BLOCKCHAIN IS? on: October 30, 2018, 12:33:06 PM
That was a lengthy article, but very worthy read.
And it is helpful to everyone not only beginners, who wants to fully wrap their head around the concept of the blockchain technology.
Nice write-up
5709  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Discusion] [Help] Helps to raise Ranking on: October 25, 2018, 07:36:04 AM
You don't get merits by thinking, 'how do I get merits?'. You should instead be thinking how do I contribute better to the forum? And how can I be more helpful?

And the short answer is improving yourself, as you can only assist others if you have something to give.
Read through the forum, and whenever someone has an inquiry you can easily help out as you have stocked up on knowledge.
Do not spam and make posts repeatedly, just for the sake of getting merits. It is easy to spot when you are just playing to the gallery and giving the same repetitive answers in order to get approval.

Have a good post history, not just one quality post in the midst of lots of spam. Form a habit of only joining the discussion when you have something relevant.
Avoid spam mega threads.
You can also take notes from members who have risen in rank without airdropped merits, by going through their post history you can pick up some helpful tips and clues.
Be a part of the community and not just here for the benefits.

Edit: A good place to start improving would be your topic styling;
Some people like to put "tags" in the title within brackets. Like "[GLBSE] [ANNOUNCE] ASDF: Generic asset". I personally don't like this style. I prefer to include the tag info within the sentence, like "Announcing ASDF, a generic asset on GLBSE". When tags are really necessary, it may indicate that a new subforum should be created.

Try and correct that, and also read the entire thread by theymos to better get a hang of styling your topics.
Including adding question marks when asking a question.
5710  Other / Serious discussion / The concept of originality ~ a muse on: October 24, 2018, 01:34:56 PM
Originality could be of an idea, style, creation, piece (of art, music etc). It could as well be of an attitude and personality.

Original is gotten from the word origin, which means the source or beginning of something. To be a pace setter or pioneer. In simple terms, where it originates from. The degrees of uniqueness.

For a better view we should also consider what it means to be unoriginal or an imitation.
An imitation is a copy of an earlier model or idea. To imitate is to follow the steps and act or make something in the semblance and inspired by another

Imitation is frowned upon when abused, such as pliagarism, and it would earn you a ban in this forum.

But it can also be productive and show resourcefulness, like a fast-follower in business who quickly replicates a model which is working for someone else and utilize it for their own gain.

In the present era of social media and the internet which connects us all and exposes our lifes, edifying some and indignifying others, and presenting a certain model which all should aspire for, individual thought, opinion and attitude is slowly fading.

But, was there ever such a thing as true originality?

Trillions of humans have lived before us and billions are living in our era, each with ideas. So there is high probability that every facet of life has been touched and explored.

Of course we have had inventions attributed to people, technological and philosophical. But most of this has been attempted by people before hand with varying degrees of failures and success.
Bitcoin developed by Satoshi Nakamoto is an example. Bitcoin was not the first attempt at inventing a decentralized digital currency, but it was the most successful. And he would be seen as hmthe pioneer, but his model was no doubt inspires to an extent by previous attempts.

Does that make the creation less original?

I think not. We are all influenced by external factors, what we see, hear, watch and even through sub conscious and unconscious auto suggestions

But, True originality is not an attempt to be different from others, or deviate from the norm. but rather to open up yourself to others without fear of standing out, and without shutting out the areas you feel people wouldn't want to see or appreciate and being selective in what area of your personality, or art or idea or invention to show for fear of rejection.
And originality can not be forced.

True originality exists and always has for thousands of years, and is on its own now an imitation.
5711  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Sending "large" amounts of money between banks on: October 24, 2018, 10:55:01 AM
I use tokens when making transfers involving large sums.
The conventional internet transfer is limited to small, everyday amounts.
But for transfer of larger sums you'd need to obtain a token from your bank at a cost. And it generates codes for your different transfers.
5712  Other / Meta / Re: Can Forum Create Bot Which Recommend For Merit on: October 24, 2018, 07:02:12 AM
Forum has anti spam bot.

The forum does not have an anti spam bot. The mods and admins to around and delete spam comments and also trash useless threads in the forum.
They are also aided by members who can flag a post by reporting it and they take action (they are pretty efficient for you to think they're bots)

That's also how the merit works, members and selected source go around and look for worthy and educative posts.
I've seen bots do lots of things but designing such an EA would be very tasking.
If you think your posts don't get noticed, then consider venturing to other boards and fully exploring the forum.
5713  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cooper member benefits on: October 24, 2018, 06:45:13 AM
So pretty much member rank and you paid for it. At least full signature should be allowed  Smiley

The forum is not directly involved with bounty managers and do not decide whether a copper member gets paid and which rank they would hold. It's best you contact the bounty campaign directly

Copper membership was introduced for those who couldn't wait the time needed to rank up (and now the one merit required) and need to break some of the restrictions on their account.
5714  Other / Meta / Re: My original account was hacked, I signed a message, DTs please tag it on: October 23, 2018, 02:51:50 PM
Is there any way that we can stop such immoral bounty programme running here on Bitcointalk?

Bitcointalk does not regulate scams on the forum and even if you could confirm your accusations they won't save stopped from running their programme.
Their admins on the forum would likely be red tagged to warn people to trade cautiously.
5715  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is Scalability? on: October 23, 2018, 02:25:57 PM
I have been a big fan of the lightening network and I'm just waiting for its full launch so I can witness its effect first hand. I strongly believe the solution to bitcoin scalability problem will be the "Lightening network".

Question: OP you talked about the hard and soft fork and gave example to only hard fork what about soft fork? Give an example for better understanding. (Note, if bitcoin haven't experience it use other blockchain for example)

Bitcoin improvement proposal, BIP, such as BIP 141 or Segwit is an example of a soft fork in bitcoin.
It seems to be a sort of segregation of a transaction after it is completed. It is separated from the block and stored off to increase blocksize in order to handle more transactions per second.

At this time they are all just proposals and due to the decentralization of bitcoin there is no central body to approve all the BIPs, until a consensus is reached.
5716  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Noobs wrong perception on: October 23, 2018, 09:04:51 AM
Meta is in a sorry state right now. We seem to be experiencing a relapse of the stricter newbie restriction and one merit requirement. And users who have failed to rank up are mostly those bashing the system.

Most are ploys to seek attention and others desperate attempts fo get merited.
Things would likely cool down in a couple of days
5717  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The whales need no indicators! on: October 23, 2018, 08:20:42 AM
Everyone needs analysis when trading, more so those who hold higher amounts.

Whales do not control the market they only have a degree of influence over it, and it varies depending on how much they hold and what currency is being discussed. Bitcoin for one is a currency that can resist manipulations to an extent, as it has a very high market cap.

There are notable cases of when whales have lost out when trying to manipulate the market.
Put up a low sell order for large amounts people bought up and still the price rebounded fee days later.

as the price will still go against you no matter how intelligent you are in technical analysis.

This couldn't be more false.
Instead of dwelling in the stories you have been sold of whales and the market and manipulations.
Make an effort to research and read.
Whales are most times very rarely involved in active trading.
Everyday individuals are profiting from the market using technical analysis
5718  Other / Meta / Re: Stolen accounts being sold and why noone is helping? on: October 23, 2018, 07:34:49 AM
No one is supporting stolen accounts. But there are procedures that are followed when handling such issues.
- Did you sign the address linked to the account?
- Have you locked the account using the email?

As far as I know there is a long line of users with same request as yours. Even with this you still would wait a while.
Best to lock the account so it can't be used for any illicit activities.

I also multiple times tried to contact Bitcointalk mods according to the "how to recover my account" instructions presented on this board and never got any reply.

The procedure has already been outlined by theymos  here -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0
5719  Other / Beginners & Help / What is Scalability? on: October 23, 2018, 06:27:39 AM
Scalability is a word that should most likely have come across on our journey into cryptocurrency.

Scalability is the ability of a system to conviniently expand and accommodate growth and increase in scale

A basic example would be the human stomach, it's an organ that comfortably expands to accommodate as much food as we can take in, and never does it get to point that stomach all the way to oesophagus gets filled and we can take in no more.

Scalability issue is faced in may technologies and businesses and it comes in different forms and the blockchain technology, more specifically, the bitcoin blockchain technology, is not an exception.

Unlike the human system which disposes of food as waste, every transaction made on the blockchain is stored on the system.
Bitcoin transactions operate on a POW algorithm and are confirmed by miners, who compete individually for the confirmation of the next block in the chain until the transaction is completed. The block size is 1MB, and that's the amount of transactions that can be stored in it.

Bitcoin has grown in popularity over the years and this has lead to increased adoption and higher number of transaction requiring confirmation.
So basically a limited block size is used to accommodate an infinitely growing number of transactions.
This has lead to lagging and low tps (transaction per second); scalability issues. And the blockchain can only handle 7 transactions per second.

Solutions to bitcoin's Scalability Problem

A lot of suggestions has been put forward to solve the scalability problem of bitcoin
- Hard (or soft) Fork
- Segregated Witness (segwit)
- Lightening network and more,

Hard fork is a splitting of a block into two separate chains. We have hard and soft fork, a hard fork is one whose transactions can not be recognized by the parent chain, (a complete split) while a soft fork can be recognized by the parent chain.
Bitcoin Cash was a hard fork of bitcoin which was split in 2017, and increased the bitcoin blocksize to 8MB and was a temporary solution to the scalability problem.

Segwit and the lightening network are whole topics of discuss and would require a separate post
They have been touted as a permanent solutions to bitcoin's scalability. They are both yet to be fully launched on the system.
5720  Other / Meta / Re: Bias on giving merit, forum negativity and positivity to the newbies. on: October 23, 2018, 05:29:17 AM

Thus, bias giving of merit will only apply to high ranks users. And if you are a newbie trying hard to start a thread for merits then you will end up getting a lot of negative reply. I have seen some post started with newbies or lower ranks in their merit related post and definitely get a negative feed back.

NEWBIE + GOOD POST = IGNORE
HIGH RANK + GOOD POST = MERITS

Firstly, a newbie shouldn't start a tread trying hard to get merits,  you should start a thread that would be helpful to others and qualitative trnough to improve your readers even slightly and you'd surely get a merited at some time if you keep at it and don't sti0 offering assurance if you don't get merited.

There are also merit sources who were charged with the duty of finding memorable posts and meriting it, and if you've paid close attention you would have felt their impact on the various boards.

Then there are stories of members here who would debunk your claim, Ddmrddmr who started from scratch with no airdropped merits and now has potential merit count and is only limited by activity. Including many others, some who have achieved different high ranks with no airdrop.

I also used to feel the merit system was abusive and biased till I changed my posting objective and I have since noticed changes.
So the negativity might probably be coming from you, and not other higher ranked members
