Is this the right place to post this?

Sometimes I miss PM's sent to me just because the menu at the top is so small and I don't see the small "(1)" next to "MY MESSAGES". Don't want to be annoying, but is there some way we can make it easier to see notification of new messages?

Thanks!

i get an email when a new message arrives
1462  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Day 3 on here and things I learnt so far... on: September 11, 2012, 08:15:27 AM
1. The crowd here are really friendly and there doesn't seem to be too many eejits like on other non-bitcoin forums.
2. People here are really helpful to newbies or is that just because we is in the newbies section. Average IQ seems high.
3. People are excited about something  Wink
4. These forums seem to be the focal point for this entire (nascent) industry.

yes, this place is great and full of ideas.

just be carefull that you wont get scammed - there are idiots here also.
1463  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / confirmations on change address on: September 11, 2012, 07:57:25 AM
hi,

just a small question:

if i send a transaction the change goes to another address (i am speaking about reference implementation).
why aren't there any confirmations needed? it seems to be a normal transaction.

what would happen if i use a wallet (e.g. blockchain.info) and use another partys address as a change address. would he need to wait for confirmations (i guess yes, because i dont see a way to distinguish between change and "real" transaction?
1464  Economy / Securities / Re: Would there be any interest in a GLBSE stock that invested in the US stock on: September 11, 2012, 07:18:02 AM
if you manage your share price to usd/btc price i would give it a try
then someone can use this to short btc.

(eg
buy 1 share at 1btc (1btc is worth 10usd)
sell 1 share at 2btc (1btc is worth 5usd)
)

^^ this means your fund will be valued in usd and you need to buy a share with btc through e.g. bitinstant.
1465  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: theft/scamming way more profitable (and riskless) than legal businness on: September 11, 2012, 06:49:53 AM
Not only should you steal as much as possible you should setup a passthrough to draw in more funds to invest in your scamming.

this seems to be a much better idea Wink
now i just need something with a high return which guarantees me it stays for more than a year (otherwise it is not worth the effort to build up a passthrough)

...just kidding...
1466  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: theft/scamming way more profitable (and riskless) than legal businness on: September 11, 2012, 06:45:28 AM
what a shame...

as a friend and me decided to offer a new bitcoin service: should we steal the coins?

seems to be more profitable: and i am not able to see any risks.

(btw: no we won't do that. we'll just make sure its impossible to steal us a huge amount. but damn morality... if you would shut up i'll be rich!)

Do it.  Half of the people you scam here will actively defend you long after the fact.

no, never
i want to feel comfortable. and scamming other people does not make me happy...
^^ this is much more worth than money (esp. if i think about my cute baby)

edit: lucky -> happy
1467  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Eigene Knoten betreiben, was bring's ? on: September 10, 2012, 05:58:47 PM
Hi,

Danke.

1468  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Questionable BTC Users on: September 10, 2012, 12:46:49 PM
I for one, thing that this is a useful thread. I don't have anything to contribute though. Is there a thread of particularly reputable BTC users? Might also be useful (and might invoke less acrimony!).

That's a great idea, I'll keep my eye open for those who seem to be the most reputable and if no one else beats me to it I will start a thread when I have a few names...

A few names for the GOOD USERS thread, if one gets started, in no particular order:

Patrick Harnett

Goat, he does what he says, but you have to make sure you read the fine print because it might say he is taking all your money. Cheesy

Nefario, despite the nefarios handle, he runs the GLBSE and is one of the most trusted and respected members of the forum.

Theymos (do we get extra points for sucking up to the admins?)

Senbonzakura

Gavin Andresan (sp?)

If I can get a couple senior members to confirm these names as trust-worthy I will start the new thread with their names   =)

i dont know Senbonzakura but i do trust the rest

i'd recommend bitpay as a payment provider to protect you from any risk.
as its pretty easy to code an html app-store: where do you need help?
1471  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Letter to Matthew on: September 10, 2012, 09:13:36 AM
Jesus Christ...
The bitcoin community is gullible as fuck. Therefore, it attracts scammers.
That's how simple it is. No pathetic posts about feeling betrayed, no multiple threads about the same topic (being butthurt about getting scammed), no tears and drama is needed.

The only thing you all need, is to learn how to use your brains. Do not trust anyone, especially not just because you had sweet chit-chat over Skype and PM's. Your parents obviously failed to raise you, because even kindergarten kids know they're not supposed to trust strangers.

i dont know where you come from but i am proud to be raised in a way to first assume other people are honest.

i should not think this about random internet people though; lessen learned.
1472  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: CPU Mining have any sense at all? on: September 10, 2012, 08:59:50 AM
you could try mining litecoin and sell them for btc
but if you pay for electricity i think it is not much better
1473  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Response on: September 10, 2012, 08:33:35 AM
In hindsight, I no longer see this bet as being funny and I think it was in horrible taste. The community members who were my friends who are standing up against this are right in doing so I and I have no place in the bitcoin community as I clearly don't take it as seriously as everyone else. I am happy to have learned so much from Bitcoin and I'm glad to have shared in many experiences as well, but I cannot discount the claims that I have some issues with manicism as there is no other explanation for my often irrational behavior. I'll be seriously looking at my life and exiting from the community with my sincerest apologies.

Mihai Alisie will be speaking for the Bitcoin Magazine at the London conference. I am in the process of exiting the company completely equity and all in addition to already having resigned as a director and Editor in Chief, as it seems the right thing to do for the future of the magazine.

Ellet's IP is being handed over to a more capable party and I will be exiting any involvement with it.

DCAO is being dismembered and the existing heads will start another organization a bit more seriously toned.

I will not be involved in any businesses in this community any longer. It is clear my immaturity is hurting the community more than I am helping it, and the position I have been in has only resulted in hurting myself and those around me. I'm glad to see that many people did get my joke, but I ask that they not defend me as even I see now that it was crossing all sorts of lines that should never have been crossed and I have absolutely no excuse for it.

I'm sorry I let so many people down that I never even realized actually cared and I hope I can somehow serve as an example of what not to do so that all of this was not a complete waste.

I will now leave how I came.

if you feel so sorry take the btc you have and divide them proportionally.

for me this would be enough

btw: i would have paid (and i expect most others also): or would you have told us that it was just a joke in case that pirate would have paid?

1477  Other / Off-topic / Re: When did Matthew get the scammer tag? on: September 10, 2012, 06:44:36 AM
Sorry, I've been gone for a few days. Did pirate also get one? Actually, I just need someone to help catch me up on the most recent events. I feel like a stray cat wandering these forums now.

Pirate has paid back in full, MNW got the scammer tag because of scamming his readers out of annual subscriptions for his magazine which has now ceased existence, it has turned out Atlas is Satoshi Nakamoto when he was arrested by FBI agents in an undisclosed Scandinavian location (presumably a village with all blue houses and street lights), Bruno is really Gavin, and Gavin is really Leonard Nimoy. Lightcoin has pared with BTC (this was the day before yesterday), but dropped in value immediately when my dog farted (this was today).

That sums it up pretty much. Welcome back!

LOL
you forgot that the CIA said that they will use BTC as their primary currency to pay out their informants
1478  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Discussion about 10,000BTC Bet (Official) on: September 09, 2012, 04:39:49 PM
Matthew committed fraud, plain and simple. While I'm personally only disappointed that I'm not getting 400 BTC, others used this bet as their main method of hedging against Pirate or made other investment decisions based on this bet because they trusted Matthew. Matthew has demonstrated that he is unworthy of anyone's trust.

I guess I was right the first time.
I have no confidence in [Matthew]'s sense of morality, and I will never trade with him.

+1

Is he still a staff member?
