@Genjix - Can you please update https://bitcoinica.com/ with the info from the OP? You can not assume all customers are reading bitcointalk.org.

why is this a problem?
it should change nothing for their customers.

but they should do so as soon as they have a plan how to handle payouts.
1582  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: July 13, 2012, 11:02:34 AM
BUT: after all they are a LP. i think this means that if the company don't have the funds they are not legally obeyed to pay out.
Not necessarily. There is also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criminal_negligence . And the way this was handled shows an incredible lack of foresight. Why TF did Tihan have access to the Gox account? Surely that's not because Patrick and Genjix wanted it that way! It could be then argued that Tihan as well as whoever insisted on Tihan having access are criminally negligent.

thank you for repeat the second part of my post in a way a native speaker would understand better Wink
1583  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: July 13, 2012, 10:57:49 AM
i am thinking about a scammer tag too.

BUT: after all they are a LP. i think this means that if the company don't have the funds they are not legally obeyed to pay out.

in germany if someone is a "security expert" (justice defines this term) and do very obvious failures in securing the money they are personally liable (or must go to jail).

i dont know NZ/UK laws and i dont know the policy of this forum.

personally i think they all deserve a scammer tag now.
I dont think they deserve a scammer tag, but some stupidity tag.

if they would have filed a police report i would agree (past; i am speaking about the first break in).

but atm we have no chance to know who stole it. could be Tihan itself afterall.
all we know is they owe us money and tell us stories why it is so difficult to pay it back and that they are doing it for charity.

^^ sounds like a typicall scammer.
1584  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 13, 2012, 10:50:12 AM
Does anyone actually believe this? They stole 40,000 usd from gox? Then it can be tracked plain and simple. But I'm sure no police report will be filed, because nothing was really stolen. Thats ignoring the fact that mtgox says they approve manually large withdrawals. Where is the 40,000btc? if its still in gox, gox can take it back if not where is it in the blockchain. The bitcoinica scammers really are getting careless now with their claims

maybe multiple small gox codes which where used to buy btc from different accounts and afterwards withdrawn immediatly?
but i am also not sure if i should believe it.

you shouldn't be trusted with money anymore.

you claim you are security experts and didn't lock all api keys? are you kidding me?

why didnt you just move it to another account?
why didnt you revoked all api access? - i see no need for it as bitcoinica is OFFLINE

btw: i dont really care about that theft.
its just another story why we should wait for OUR money and why we should be nice to you.
1587  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Show Message/Counter when address pool since last backup has been depleted. on: July 13, 2012, 06:31:53 AM
@Gavin: deterministic wallets sounds way better.

should i give the backup implementation a try? would be my first contact to bitcoind.
i've planned to attach an "IsBackuped"-Attribute to every address inside the keypool and to show a warning as there are now more (or only a few) "backuped" addresses left.

^^ do you think this is still a good idea? how fast is this bip going to be implemented?

A quick and small patch doesn't hurt if it's a good one Smiley IMHO. Btw. IsInBackup sounds less weird!?

Dia

thanks.. my english is always a little weird.

but the requirement for the entire world to build infrastructure around it instead of using what's already there is not only lazy, it's downright unimaginative and asinine.
I guess that's what many would say about Bitcoin vs. the traditional banking system. I'm sure Satoshi was just too lazy to open up a Paypal account Wink

may i use this in my sig?
best bitcoin cite ever Cheesy
1590  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Show Message/Counter when address pool since last backup has been depleted. on: July 12, 2012, 01:12:27 PM
if nobody is faster i'll try to implement it this weekend.
1591  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Show Message/Counter when address pool since last backup has been depleted. on: July 12, 2012, 12:54:53 PM
i would love this feature
even better: show a warning message if there is a privkey going to be used which is not contained in the last backup.
1592  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why bitcoin is in big trouble and is ultimately doomed! on: July 12, 2012, 08:57:47 AM
I dont know why the price keeps going up, but you guys need to seriously stop it, as this project is heading nowhere. I am going to stop wasting my time warning you. As for your sarcastic post on the internet, the internet probably has far more users than Bitcoin, by orders of magnitude. I think it has at least 10 x as many users.... In any case, I am tired of repeating myself, and will be considering locking this thread... I may even disappear from the community all-together.

its funny to see that you still do "pro litecoins" post in other threads.
you should realize if bitcoins falls really hard - that does not mean ltc goes up. i think it will take a time to build up trust for cryptocurrencies again.
1593  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kim Dotcom looking for suggestions on payments on: July 11, 2012, 01:54:32 PM

Back to subject, I hope the Kim realizes that when he had done MegaUpload using Bitcoins, the FBI would had a hard time freezing those.

already wrote him a mail about that...
and the nice pseudonymity features...which makes it impossible to be sure to seize ALL funds

50% How many BTC was it ?
It seems like they're dragging their feets with larger accounts.

Also why are people so happy they are getting 50% back after months? Seems crazy...
50% is better than nothing and it gave me some hope...
Would you say that if you had half of your life's savings in there ?

100USD and 106BTC
53BTC was returned

thats really not that much. and i had way less proof than Goat (only real proove was my passport as i had a verified account)

I'm not talking about PPT.A-E, but the countless other pass throughs that have popped up. I mean, even if Pirate wasn't a ponzi, any of the new ones could be

Just check on the blockchain where the money goes.

does not work with glbse

Actually it does - pirate seems not to use custom patches to keep his coins seperated, so it's not that hard to link at least large parts of his addresses together. With GLBSE it is the same, then you just need to check when how much money from some GLBSE address flows to some of pirate's addresses.

thanks!
