Always go with 80Plus Gold / Platinum PSUs. 1000W or higher is highly recommended initially, until you get the hang of it.

Let's see, it's already touched 165

don't catch it, let it fall to the floor first Wink

It's a bloodbath out on the streets man, red everywhere.

And all throughout that time, I have seen more bears, trolls and flat out idiots come and go than you would believe.  I remember when Proudhon was *the uber-bear in here, and saying how ridiculously overvalued BTC was at $10, and that his analysis was that bitcoin was really worth about a dollar or so.     Where's he today ?

I miss proudhon, IIRC he discarded his bear garb for a while in the last run-up, or maybe during one in Apr 2013.

WARNING: Radical ideas folllow...

My 2 SP20 boxes run underclocked on 850W supplies getting between 1300-1350 with temperature reporting 33/78
settings are .68/.,62/.68/.62 with 200W on each

I lay my box on its side with the network connection down.
I run a 120mm fan outside the box pulling air out by the connectors
I've reversed my internal fan to push air into the box
and ... I run my reversed fan at 5%

Ahh -- finally peace!

The following is not recommended. It can damage your box, void your warranty and cause you stress

To allow setting the fan to 5%

ssh into the miner

cd /var/www/SP2x/
sed -i  's/($i = 20; $i < 101; $i += 10)/($i = 00; $i < 101; $i += 05)/' settings.php

Now, if I can only get this to persist across box reboots

you can change the following file to lower the fan speed below 20.

Code:
vi /etc/mg_custom_mode

FAN:10 VS0:650 VS1:650 VS2:650 VS3:650 VMAX:700 AC0:288 AC1:288 AC2:288 AC3:288 DC_AMP:170

How do I lower the draw on electricity and decrease my hashrate to much lower?  At least until the bitcoin price changes.  Thanks.

How much power do you want to draw on the wall?

Here's a voltage / Power draw table from Syke's review https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=896913.0

Code:
Voltage	W@wall	GH/s
.65 710 1240
.70 1005 1468
.75 1110 1520
.79 1150 1534

Bought this Fractal Design Newton R3 1000W 80+ platinum value PSU, suits SP20 perfectly

The platinum PSU draws 450W for 1TH, for 0.5W/GH, it can deliver 1.2TH at 600W (need more powerful fan on SP20 to keep it cool). Cheap 80+ platinum PSU is the way to efficiency

Nice. Cost?

~230chf here in CH. https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product/fractal-newton-r3-1000w-power-supply-computer-631365?tagIds=76-524

It's an 8krpm 92mm fan, might be super noisy. I have a 6krpm 80mm fan, and it's quite a bit noisy.

Some of your DOF's on the pictures are really narrow. You can increase this by increasing your fstop [if tripodded], moving further away and decreasing your FOV. That is, assuming you're on a DLSR.
I chose f/4.0 for the DOF effect Wink and partly because of the dark scene in the room, otherwise at F8-F11, the pics were becoming quite blurry. These pics are not going into a data-sheet Smiley But I like the sharp pics that you have posted. What gear did you use? a tripod, a macro lens?

... I also applied tape over the top row holes, since these top-row holes are simply passing through the outside cold air...

that's more like left side...
check out temps on the 6pin from time to time, they may get hot from the reversal of airflow

lolzz ya Smiley, I have oriented the SP20, so that the heatsinks are upright. By 6pin, so you mean the PCIE power connectors?

I did not see a voltage regulator (buck convertor). Are there any or has the design of the chip changed fundamentally?

its all in series now. 12V dived over 14 chips (plus some other components) results in about a 0.8V operating voltage (which is good for 0.5w/GH). 9v would provide about 0.6V/chip or 0.3w/GH

That's very nice, similar to the Bitfury chips. This should remove the buck-converter losses ~10-20%.

Just wanted to post that after reversing the fan direction to Push, I am getting slightly lower temps and  lower noise as well. (Fan speed at 10)

After reversing the fan direction, I also applied tape over the top row holes, since these top-row holes are simply passing through the outside cold air (can be verified with an IR-thermo)

Reversing the fan, allows easy access to the power-sockets, RJ45, and the status LED.

Has anyone tried reversing / inverting the fan?
I tried it yesterday, and the temps are a bit lower than when the fan was facing the other way round. The intake side is outside my window, with the fan pulling in cold air and pushing hot air inside the house.

would be easy to pull in cold air that way.  let us know if it keeps working for you.

Three days with the fan direction reversed and no problems yet. It also helps reduce the fan noise in the room, since the fan side is now on the window sill, instead of inside the room.

Do you see buck convertors on the hashing blades?
