The dev is an idiot and has no idea how to stop GPU mining; I wonder how people are getting MH/s on it... I guess just large CPU farms, right?
Why would you want to put all those CPU's in a pen when they'd be far happier out in the wild? Is there any difference between 100 computers run by 100 interested people or 100 computers run by 1 interested person? 99 people, that's the difference. Bitcoin does show us the future. It's a black-hole of computation and eventually it'll implode. Want mass adoption? I say limit all mining to Androids, period. It's kind of oxymoronic really, a centralized distributed network. Impossible. Why? . , all on the same level.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Peltier Thermo-Electric Cooler ?
|

If you're intention is to get the chips hashing as fast as possible, ignoring power costs, then a TEC (Thermo electric cooler) plus a massive heatsink (even better a water cooled head on the back of the TEC) is the way to go. You can get the temperature of the chip well below ambient, which means you can get it colder, while still moving heat away just as air or water. Next option is an oil bath, which unless you can get the oil temperature well below ambient, then it can only move the heat but not cool the chip to super lower levels because you can only cool it to ambient; unless of course you refrigerate the oil, or have some cascade of heat pumps. You can buy water-cooled TEC plates there! Oil cooled pc in a fish tankIf along with electricity you have free time on your hands you could build a ASIC dry ice pot. This is a large thick copper cylinder with one closed and one open end, the closed end sits on top of the chips and into the cylinder you very carefully place acetone and dry ice chunks and make a "slurry" and its super super cold! But you have to feed it dry ice for 24/7 so it doesn't overheat from evaporating the dry ice off. Some people even use liquid nitrogen in the pot. Good picture of a dry ice pot If you have a lot of free electricity, time, or money you could buy an entire AC unit for you asics, or build your own. This uses a "head" akin to a water cooling "head" that is placed on the chip, but instead of water, freon or some suitable chemical is ran through it. It is compressed and held at some pressure at a liquid, it is then pumped onto the hot chip, and evaporates taking heat with it, then it is compressed with a compressor and cycled back through. These can get below ambient too. A phase change system for a computer with one headThe coolest thing you could do if you have a lot of all of that stuff we all want a lot of. Then you could build or buy a thermo-acoustic cooler. This thing is bad-ass, it can get within a few degrees of 0 kelvin, but I don't think it moves much heat at that point. But you could find one suitable for the chips heat output, and not have to feed it dry ice, or freon, or air, or water. It uses sound pressure waves to cool a "stack" of straw like cylinders, it works super well and its super cool. Ben and Jerry's actually started using them in all of their freezers for ice cream and to make it because they are so easy, cheap, environmentally friends, and super cool. Thermo-acoustic cooler article/linkBut way before any of those become useful, i think you'd reach the chips physical limits. I have no idea about your specific hardware, but first run the chips and measure their temperature at increasing clock speeds and voltages, see if cooling is necessary. Ooooo! That thermo-acoustic cooler, I believe the technical term is "Cooler 'n' Shit!" TEC's are basically heat-pumps and harvest too. I'd like them to get cheap enough so I can run my comp off of my wood-stove. As for trying them out for cooling, I've got the perfect setup for testing it out and am in the middle of wiring it up. The problems I've had with it in the past related to how fast the chip can pull the heat off. Check that heat-sink on the unit, my 8350 wouldn't be comfortable with it. I'll let the masters give you the numbers though, excellent source for all extreme cooing. http://www.overclock.net/f/60/specialized-coolingIf your looking at hacking some cheap and very effective cooling though, lemme show you what I'll be trying that chip on. I got a wicked deal ($22) each on two Thermaltake 2.0 units last fall (wrong firmware, whatever), and I had a couple of smaller ones as well so I just had to put together one nice big grill. Now if only I can package it in a nice 50's sports-car model. http://i633.photobucket.com/albums/uu53/acatphoto/Tech/BadGirl02.jpghttp://i633.photobucket.com/albums/uu53/acatphoto/Tech/BG_Detail01.jpgThe numbers. I'm completely unable to get the 7950 on top there over 65C. Here's a bench shot of it at 1240/1740. http://i633.photobucket.com/albums/uu53/acatphoto/Tech/7950-1240-1740-Firestrike.jpgEasy enough to try a peltier out there. Here's the thing though, normally these chips are used to cool down what's doing the cooling down. Like when they're put on the side of a V8 unit, or used to cool the water in a liquid rig. They just don't pull the heat off fast enough. However, I will be trying that chip out not on the GPU but on the VRM's. I had quite the time getting those temps down in this mod. VRM temps were consistently 15C higher than the gpu until I got that little 2x2 fan array in place. Now I've just got to figure out how to sandwich a peltier in there. Hasn't been high priority because it's working really well as is but I'm sure it's a curiosity that I'll scratch eventually.

Yes, they are easy to mine right now so get them while you can They are also a bargain in the exchanges so they can be bought cheaply too We're going to be making announcements soon and then things will start to get interesting I must say I can't wait for that! I was supporting BSY from the day 1 and I still believe in potential of BanksyCoin. Waiting patiently Kind regards! Supported Banksy, hell, I'm carrying it! So allo allo from slightly northern Manitoba. Just stumbled upon this coin tonight while looking for low-difficulty coins, things you can still mine with a 7950. Right now I'm 15% of your network, giddy with power, talking like Megamind. So what's all this about exchanges? I don't wanna trade my coins for other coins, I wanna trade em for a 40oz at the depanneur if and when I ever get back to Montreal. *sigh* Fou-Fou Electrique still closed? Bummer. Currencies are supposed to be organic things, grown from the merchant ground up. Merchants invent them to use amongst themselves and then involve their customers, that then defines value. 6:30 am here once again, tired. Will be back, until then, here's a distribution model to consider... https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=822317.0

as well as a third hour without receiving a single coin, this is looking more like a scam all the time Let me get this straight.... You got some free things, then you didn't get some free things... How is this a scam? Just roll with it! You don't even have to carry "it" around, it doesn't weigh anything, you don't have to feed it, and it doesn't make any rude noises or smells. You don't even have to value it, you can just throw it away. Seriously, if I play word-association with crypto, "Filthy Lucre" and "Rapacious Avarice" are the first thing that come to mind. PM me an address and I'll toss you some. I want something in return though, because who ever heard of getting something for free. Stand in front of a mirror and (try to) say... "The business in bismuth was brisk on the isthmus." I will send you ten miracles for every time you can without spitting out your tongue.

I have 2 rigs which have been mining the Blake Ecosystem for several months (with a break over the summer) ... My #1 rig has an HD7990. It can be a bit ropey so I only run it at I=11, with this I can still watch HD streams or play games while mining. Despite a 3-fan case, the side is off & I have a 1000 m3/hr 'can fan' (formally used for 'indoor gardening' ) blowing under the GPU. With an ambient of 23 degrees, the GPUs are running 78 & 82 degrees. Average hashrate is 4.639 GH/s, WU is 2005/m. #2 has an HD5870. As this rig is only used for mining, monitoring the pools 7 running a couple of wallets it's at I=14. The side is off that too but it doesn't need extra cooling as it's stable at 67 degrees. Average hashrate is 2.355GH/s, WU=509.9/m. 7990! Beefy! Yeah, these newer algos certainly do have that advantage, being able to use your machine. Of course, any mention of heat or cooling is the perfect excuse to show off this big grill. Found an awesome deal on two Thermaltake 2.0's, $22 each because they had the wrong firmware. One for the CPU, one for the 7950, leaving two smaller ones for the two 6950's that I've gotta replace caps on. Temps? I am completely unable to get the 7950 over 60C, even scrypt hashing, overvolting to 1.3, and running it at 1240/1740. It's a very easy hack/retrofit if you ever have the mind to. http://i633.photobucket.com/albums/uu53/acatphoto/Tech/BadGirl01.jpghttp://i633.photobucket.com/albums/uu53/acatphoto/Tech/BadGirl02.jpghttp://i633.photobucket.com/albums/uu53/acatphoto/Tech/7950-1240-1740-Firestrike.jpg

HA! Worksize was too big. At 64 I'm error-free and tuning. Sure do have to step things back with this one. Can someone post some suggested settings for our fave videocards?
-w 64 -g 1 -i 12 7950@ 1140/1500 = 2.25Ghs 6850@ 820/1100 = 670 Mh/s
2 threads, minor increase. Well that seems to have done it. Done. I'm faded. G'night!
Edit: Just had to add this last... I'm Loving This Algo! Right now the fastest miner in the suprnova pool is only ten times as fast as my machine instead of the large cardinal surreal number set that I'm used to. It's got to be distributed or it just doesn't work. Bitcoin is now a computational black hole, doomed by it's own miners.

Ok, my eyes are red, I'm awful tired, end of a long session, so I'm gonna wimp out and ask for some config help here. Well I offer up tons of help online so I guess it's my turn eh? Here's the deal. Got cgminer config set up to log into wallet, batch file runs cgminer with backup pool (eu3.blakecoin.com). No problems logging in with either, pools are ok. I've got a 6850 and a 7950 in my machine. Using the configuration for 6850 posted earlier. Here's what I'm getting... Same thing with 1 or 2 threads. The 6850 stumbles along for a while and then gets a ton of the same errors. Could do the dig dig digging but I'm just too tired, and besides, if someone explains what's up here, others with the same error will read as well. Thanks for your time!

I am... amused. I took a quick look to see what new coins were listed on Bittrex and saw Givecoin there. "Hey!" I thought, "There's that charity coin I saw on the release calendar. Great!" I popped in and saw no bids, and no sales. "Neat! I can be the first buyer. What a singular honor." I quickly clicked, clicked, rushing to get in first, and then the page froze up during re-loading. Hmmm.... Checked the front page... "Disabled". "Wow", I thought "Coins sure do die fast these days." Then I came here to get a bit of background and to see what was up. I'm happy to see that you've got a real organization that does more than talk, have people with skills and plans you're going ahead with. Then I had an idea. I'm an artist, photographer, and I try to donate pictures for sale when I can to charitable auctions. The problem is that I can't exactly crank out a ton of prints, get them framed, and then toss them all over the place. I'm on disability myself, living comfortably, but you get my drift. However... what if you had a pool of pictures that were freely available to organizations for purposes of printing, selling, auctioning etc etc? I know a lot of artists donate work to a lot of causes, this would have the effect of greatly magnifying our singular contributions. I would no longer be giving one picture to one cause, there would be the possibility of it being used again and again. I've had my work up at this Dogecoin site for a while now but if you know that community you know they're like the Anonymous of cryptocurrency. Not exactly organized or focused, but you gotta love em. You've got a core of more driven tech-savvy people who I think would be more suitable to this purpose. In any case, have a think and have a look. Here's a few places you can see my work. http://dogelet.com/u/Atomicathttp://www.flickr.com/photos/7657010@N05/http://s633.photobucket.com/user/acatphoto/library/SiteAnd as for that Givecoin purchase... it went through. A whopping 0.00165083 Bitcoins worth which is... about 65 cents today. Hoorah! Hey, it was all I had, and that's what matters. Feel free to setup an account on https://doabitofgood.com and upload some photo's! You are more than welcome to water mark them. We need content for each of the 12 charitable giving categories and we would love to explore having your albums available for non-profits to leverage. The system totally allows any campaign to select more than one album and the images are mixed together. Cheers! -dvd I saw the 1+ BTC volume on Bittrex the other day. Congrats! Naturally I sparked up the wallet and checked out the hash-rate/difficulty. Ah well, the time I spent watching coins drop into it ding ding ding, every five minutes was fun while it lasted. Mined 30,000 or so and then dropped them into the pool, traded for the pennies I use to learn the game. Bigger congrats go to having a solid stable hashrate. Much more important. Question, pictures, aspect ratio and resolution. I guess you can size to fit for your screen-savers but do you need print size for say, calendars? How about if I make G-drive folder for you? What ideas/plans do you have outside the screensavers?

This coin does not have infinite possibilities it has one-------> FAILURE if the devs dont fix these fees. No one will mine a coin that pays only 1/3 of the power we mine on it. SO unless you have an infinatecoinwalmart.com and powerandelectricforinfinitecoinminers.com, infinitecoinrent.com, infinitecoinwaterandsewer.com this coin = FAILURE
If this is the case this coin does not have infinite possibilities except 1 FAILURE hahahaha
Oh it's not the huge programming errors that's the problem. The problem is, what programmer in their right mind EVER releases an update or ANYTHING without running it first? I simply can't imagine it, but there it is. Time for a career at Diebold.

Triggered by the advice of Atomicat I went into my Asrock Bios and there I found an overall CPU overclock setting and raised it 10%. After reboot mining with 7 cores sprinted away up to 103 khs. Temp stays OK at 48C
edit; after a few minutes it goes down to 70 khs. Next it keeps changing between 70 to 80 khs . Strange..
alright thanks thats kind of odd what kind of cpu? is it an instance node from a vps? It sounds like he's one of the slightly automatic overclock settings in the bios. It will crank the multiplier when it can but step it down if the chip gets hot. I know it is, because you have to crank the 8350 up to 4.8 Ghz to get 100Kh/s. Digithu, you must be using water-cooling? I know how air-cooling works on these, not quite good enough. Overclocking, it's like hot-rodding for computers! One of the best forums is Overclock.net and here's their excellent guide to overclocking the Bulldozer which I'll have to dig into again. Ah, just noticed it's for the 8120, but all the scaling charts are relevant and anyone who can take a 3.1 Ghz chip to 5.4Ghz deserves to be listened to. Tons of information there, tons and tons of experience to tap, and I'd better get out of there before I start drooling over liquid nitrogen setups. Oh there it is, the other Bulldozer/Piledriver guide.Another great forum is Xtreme Systems. Lots of fun stuff there. (Good Lord! *choke* 4-chip Opteron system. That's just nasty!!!) Things getting a little late here so I'll leave it at that. Just remember that if you're scaling things upwards whatever it is, it'll fail before it blows. If you're not rebooting a lot though, you're not doing it right. Aida64 reports ALL the temperatures in your system and cards, not just the main ones. Contains great benchmarks, positively the best and most comprehensive info utility I've ever seen. Even has hashing benchmarks for graphics cards. http://www.aida64.com/downloadsOn the sidebar of this Reddit community is a great link list of utilities and benchmark programs. http://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/And just because, here's my Bad Girl.
