1261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AUR] Auroracoin - a cryptocurrency for Iceland on: October 08, 2014, 11:04:28 AM
Yeah, don't write off a coin just because the forum thread dies, I sure hope the original developer is dead tho! :p

AUR was an okay idea- I don't think we had seen fair distribution or real progress towards it. It was all 'talk'

The only country coin I see succeeding is called phcoin and they left bitcointalk months ago with tremendous updates
through official medium of communications to their community on facebook, twitter, irc, and announcement pages.

The original developer has done his job and has done it rather well, it's the community that failed to pick up what needed to be done. I still have a firm believe in this initiative, but have to say I need to finally see some activity from within Iceland first before I pick up again.

Having said that, I think Balduro eventually really has "broken the shackles". Unfortunately not for Iceland, but for crypto in general. Wishing him dead is the same as praying for the end of Cryptocurrencies, for it's persons like him that pave the way by creating new challenges.

If anything, I would have wished for Icelanders to have picked up this initiative more like my fellow countryman have (NLG).

Auroracoin was designed to fail.  It was one of my first looks at cryptocurrency and I was very excited when I heard about the project.  I had visited Iceland the previous summer and of course had fallen in love with the place.  "Awesome!" I thought, and then I read... I read news articles in the BBC that hadn't been sourced, merely passed on, I read that the development was taking place on the mainland, even weeks into the project none of the people I knew and contacted in Iceland had heard of it.  Consider this... Boots on the ground, merchants being set up to use, an informed population, none of this was being done.  Here's a very VERY telling fact... there was a huge rush just to get the system in place for the first air-drop, and days before it was to happen, the software was just being written.

Why

The

Hurry.

There can be no reason other than to foster a sense of urgency, panic, and just 'get-er-done!" and think later.  The whole thing was done without any planning whatsoever, no consultation, no talking to merchants, business-people, and they hadn't even contacted the local small but there cryptocommunity.

Just remember "The Producers", built to fail, just like Urocoin.

Minerpools on right fork ?

All I know is that they had the right difficulty, right nethashrate, and today the link that used to point to ghost now points to titcoin and I can't log on.  Guess they were and decided they should grab my days worth of mining.

Edit:  Contacted them.  Now we'll have a test of their honesty I guess.

Minerpools was under DDos attach this morning, disrupted mining.  Mostly fixed now.

One miner is pretty much owning the entire coin at 4,362,630 KH/S. Yes that number is right.

What worries me is as soon as this coin hits an exchange that guy is going to dump.

renting, i have mined this coin @ 1 gighash for 18 hours

Hold on, I sense some cognitive dissonance here...

Maybe limit hashrate like MINERALS ?
Coins amount ... not so big ... 100K or 1M ?
Block time ... 2 min ?

I did consider limiting hashrate, I'm not sure, As I do think it will lock out people down the line who want in, Anyone else want to share a view?

What about 500K

2 and a half min block time?

My opinion is to ditch limitation, you will ruin coin and won't get enough support!

This will happen always, endlessly, until one dev has the balls to say, why not, it's SUPPOSED to be distributed.  Why not a HUGE limit, say, what 20 decent machines will kick out?  What's wrong with very large within reason?  What's wrong with lots, but not everything?

AMD FX8350 running 6 cores gives approx 78 kh/s with the miner cpuminer_win64_magi_byMarcusDe-bdver2-0922

How you like your 8350?  You can squeak 100Kh/s out of that bad boy.

really? what miner gives that results? I don't wanna run 8 but max 6 cores.

Atomicat, we need an instruction here. Smiley I have AMD 8350 too getting 90 Kh/s in my Xubuntu system (8 cores).

Ok, just had to double-check a few things, bench a few things, make sure I was solid with this.  Phew!  Getting the best out of your ram can be a lot more work than your CPU.  More settings.  Starting with baseline.

NB frequency = 2200
HT link = 2200
CPU/NB voltage = 1.75
DRAM = 1.6

My ram - Gskill Ripjaws-X 17000CL11 - 2133, timings 11-11-11-28-39

Benchmark - Aida64 - about 24,400 MB/s

Tightened up the timing, 10-11-10-28-39   I think I had tRAS and tRC lower but still fiddling with stability and if there's a benefit.
Boosted NB to 2400, HT link to 2600, CPU/NB to 1.8 ram to 1.65.
Increased FSB to 115 which increases DRAM frequency to 2300Mhz

Aida64 now gives about 30,050MB/s

Then just crank it!  Cheesy  At 4.95 Ghz I'm getting 96Kh/s on 6 cores, 108 on 7.  This is the best I've done with squeezing those last drops out of the ram sticks.  If anyone's got any tips on timing, I'd love to hear them.  I don't hammer at settings all that often because I find I'll have spent half the day benchmarking and BSOD'ing and none of it actually working/hashing.  Diminishing returns!

Edit:  *sigh*  I know it was around here somewhere....  Yeah, the above was a bit unstable.  Found it easier to play with and more stable around the 245 FSB range, no boost to NB, few other settings etc etc.  But that's about it, results may vary etc etc and your board/ram will probably be different.  I'm thinking of starting a thread on overclocking in the mining section, get some more heads in on these things.

So who does their taxes then? Please, share this information. And why don't you all stop being so damn precious about this shit? "Oh we don't have to tell you, you should do your homework". What the hell is that about? Any time anyone has a question that's too awkward, the same old defensive behaviour is trotted out, the oh so indignant, how dare you say that you nasty FUDDER. Now that's the shit that's getting old. A dev who has no answers and runs from bitcointalk is getting old. If he was confident in URO, he'd be on this forum answering all questions.

I have to wonder if any of the true believers have ever run a business or been involved in one at all!  I have, and even if it were a legit business I wouldn't have anything to do with it because of the incredibly piss-poor job they're doing.  Let's assume they're legit... they've got nothing on the front-end, nobody answering the phone, emails, communications are a mess, fires are left to burn, and the "value" of the coin which they need to skyrocket to bitcoin level is left to take the slow train to 1 sat.  They couldn't organize a piss-up in a brewery.

I'd say about 70% of what truthful and gugli come out with give genuine cause for concern, and NO answers have been provided by the dev, only other members of the community trying to suggest reasons why its all ok. And that's how the dev leaves it, he doesn't have to say anything, plenty of people willing to say bankruptcy isn't an issue, just believe. If I were running this and people were saying I was bankrupt when I wasn't, I'd prove them wrong. I wouldn't want that hanging round affecting business. But no, Nilesh doesn't have to dignify that with a response is the official line we're made to swallow. Well I did believe in a lot of things, but when these questions still don't get answered months down the line, I became more than a bit suspicious and looked at everything again.

If you like questions I've got loads. Some of them are the ones that get called FUD, and some you won't have heard. Some I'd keep to myself if the dev could answer what's already out there. For example, how does an unregistered company get to sign the Uro Protocol when the Protocol requires them to have traded more than 2 million metric tonnes of urea in their country in the last three years? Interesting to know how that happens. But its the dev who needs to answer these questions, not community members making assumptions based on their own research or theories. Do you not see that?

Two things you mention are total hallmarks of the scammer, the total outrage at legitimate questions, and leaving the defense to the true believers.  As for how companies run businesses.... Industrial sector, international trades, baseline numbers of hundred thousand dollars.  No involved companies can be bothered to spare a P.R. person to just drop by the most important forum where validation for this project will come from to put out fires and provide bonafides.  There are a lot of things where if true, everything falls apart.  It's like this... I met a guy once who claimed to be a mathematician, but he misunderstood the word Complex to mean "complicated", and he didn't know who Paul Erdos was.  Busted, period.

Well at 7 cores and 4.6Ghz I get 100Kh/s even.  The 8350 is great for overclocking.  Unfortunately the down-side to that is that it's got a pretty low thermal limit.  A water-cooler, even a low-end one, is an excellent investment.  You're basically getting 20% more machine.  Right now I'm running 7 cores at 4.ghz, chip is at 48C.  In the winter I'll give it a breath of fresh air and run at 5.3 all the time.

I am... amused.

I took a quick look to see what new coins were listed on Bittrex and saw Givecoin there.  "Hey!" I thought, "There's that charity coin I saw on the release calendar.  Great!"  I popped in and saw no bids, and no sales.  "Neat!  I can be the first buyer.  What a singular honor."  Wink  I quickly clicked, clicked, rushing to get in first, and then the page froze up during re-loading.  Hmmm.... Checked the front page... "Disabled".  "Wow", I thought "Coins sure do die fast these days."  Cheesy  Then I came here to get a bit of background and to see what was up.

I'm happy to see that you've got a real organization that does more than talk, have people with skills and plans you're going ahead with.  Then I had an idea.  I'm an artist, photographer, and I try to donate pictures for sale when I can to charitable auctions.  The problem is that I can't exactly crank out a ton of prints, get them framed, and then toss them all over the place.  I'm on disability myself, living comfortably, but you get my drift.  However... what if you had a pool of pictures that were freely available to organizations for purposes of printing, selling, auctioning etc etc?  I know a lot of artists donate work to a lot of causes, this would have the effect of greatly magnifying our singular contributions.  I would no longer be giving one picture to one cause, there would be the possibility of it being used again and again.

I've had my work up at this Dogecoin site for a while now but if you know that community you know they're like the Anonymous of cryptocurrency.  Not exactly organized or focused, but you gotta love em.  You've got a core of more driven tech-savvy people who I think would be more suitable to this purpose.  In any case, have a think and have a look.  Here's a few places you can see my work.

And as for that Givecoin purchase... it went through.  A whopping 0.00165083 Bitcoins worth which is... about 65 cents today.  Hoorah!  Hey, it was all I had, and that's what matters.

So you are artificially limiting the hashrate, effectively creating a central authority? Why is this good?

Because those who already have a lot have the resources to ensure that nobody else gets any.

I did it!  (Oh the things I've done)  I've become ambivalent about this project though because nothing has changed.  Right now the top two miners on the nonce pool are cranking out close to 20,000 Kh/s, what looks to be 30% of the network!  30%!  That's really sad because there are 360 users in the pool right now.  The network viability works on distribution, not concentration.  It doesn't matter actual crunching is taking place, because difficulty can be adjusted.  What matters is the distribution.  Nothing is going to change until some dev bites the proverbial bullet, ditches pools entirely, and enforces mining from the wallet only.  Might be someone with a recent start-up who might be up for that.

you did what? and yeah those two miners came back with lots of hash power...

but it doesn't seem like they benefiting all that much even if they do have tons of it.

They're raking in 100X the coinage, they'll have huge buying/selling power in the marketplace.  Same old same old.

Spreading mining rewards as much as possible is basically the purpose of this campaign, though we're yet far from that. Basically big miners cannot be avoided. Mining from wallet only may cause hidden facts you never know; people can still sole mine, firing up their cpu farms. You don't know how many miners out there, and how many big miners there. For us, at least what we see is what we have.

*sigh*  Oh DUH!!!  I skipped a decimal point there.  You've got a diminishing return set up don't you?  Must not post when sleep-deprived and bleary-eyed.  Also, been a while since I had n00b status in something, so must assume that if something seems easy and obvious, it's not.  Gotta dig around, read, and do my Blockchain 101.

What miner is the best to mining this coin ?

Best speed from these here...

http://graymines.net/miners/magi/

Only slight difference in speed running those on my FX-8350, but you'll have to see for yourself.  Just tried chopping my ram speed in half and found no drop in speed so that is irrelevant.

This is a great project and I fully support CPU mining.

There's just one little problem... Well actually it's a big one.

I'm getting 100Kh/s with 7 cores of my FX-8350... so what are the users cranking out 5,000-10,000Kh/s using?

This completely violates the spirit of this project.  If figures can be trusted (and I know pool figures can be wonky, but they're pretty close to and generally around) with a pool (nonce-pool) hashrate of 54,000Kh/s that one top user is 20% of the pool of over 350 users, and is 10% of the entire network!

Back to square one.

It's likely that people have a CPU farm, but it's also likely some other reasons ..

Well yea, and check out what happened to Phoenixcoin when they had a hashrate drive-by.

That second spike there is more PXC being created than had previously existed, in two days.  I'm not sure what kind of a network you want to get going but as developers you could easily set things up so that one person doesn't have 100 times as much power as another.

The concept of money and the monetary system as a whole is right up my alley. On this alone I have spent  years of laboring, including some early art pieces one which was other sorts of currency I named LOVE-NOTE. On top of that Im a good visual artist and have what it takes to be a good scenic artist which is something you should not undermined.

I'm a photographer, so I know about scenic art.  You might have forgotten the artist's #1 rule... be your own harshest critic.

My true talent is in understanding the underline structure of a system. Im actually really good at getting to the source of which, the system was contracted on. Or in other words, the underline axiomatic laws. You would be surprised what lays behind some of the most celebrated scientific theories, and where they go wrong. I will not get into it unless you will ask me to do this, but a large part of my training is uncovering these.

I'd like to hear at least a couple of quick examples.
