241  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain Antminer S9 on: June 08, 2016, 03:22:18 PM
You wrote like there is a chance for "no win"...

There's always a chance for a win but at the current price which has held for a few days now it will take 120 days to break even. now if the halving is happening in a month that means in a months time (hopefully you get a full month) you will make $625 minus to cost of power which is (at $.14 per kwh) $141 leaving you with $484 buts profit.

now take $2100 (this doesn't include shipping costs which are $60 per miner in most cases at least they are for me) and - the $484 from it and your left with -$1616

mining after the halving will take 282 MORE days to break even so your total investment wont pay off for almost 1 year. once everything halves the amount you mine per month after power costs will come out to about $171. this is also going based on the difficulty staying exactly the same as it is today which we all know wont happen. once bitmain starts installing these in their mining locations and have them running at full speed 24/7 the diff will go way up. not to mention all the people buying them to run themselves. this means they have a very high chance of not ever breaking even. i say EVER because the s5 and newer miners have a problem that i made a huge fuss about that can be dangerous. when internet drops the fans stop running at full speed but the power doesn't go down with it so they burn themselves up. they have yet to fix that issue and have seen it with my s7's multiple times with multiple different batches all with the latest firmware provided by bitmain. i mean they put out an update to limit the number of boards that can be used with an s7 controller....because that's super important right?? not the fact that your house can burn down or anything lol.

the price will need to more than double to make the $2100 investment worth it and even if the price doubles bitmain will just raise the cost of the miner to match the increase in btc value so future batches wont be worth it either. once the miner is old and less desirable they will lower the cost to where they should be at. until then i wont be swapping out my s7's.

i have free electricity and the numbers still don't work for me.
242  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain Antminer S9 on: June 06, 2016, 11:15:32 PM
Im not too worried about the pool it can mine on....im more worried about the cost. $2100 plus shipping for a miner not shipping yet so close to the halving is scarry. One thing is certain though....every btc paid to bitmain has shot up in value so bitmain made a ton off of first adopter and a ton off of the increase. Its a win win for them at this point.
243  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S5 + 3D printed mods on: March 21, 2016, 03:04:09 PM
Has anyone tried using these legs on an s7 yet?
244  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BITMAIN announces Antpool on: March 09, 2016, 04:12:58 PM
so today i noticed i havent received a payout from antpool....usually i get mine super early in the am like around 12-2am est but it is now 11am est and no payout. i have .105 btc sitting in my acct now that should have been paid out but i havent seen anyone else mention no payouts for today so i figured i would post about it now to get the ball rollin. im sure its no biggie but i have learned not to leave btc sitting in ANY pool no matter how big or how small so i am uncomfy with this amount just sitting especially since i cant cashout manually on this pool like i can with eclipsemc.....i might just switch back to them because i rarely have issues with them paying out. i think they were delayed once in the years i have mined there and even that was just a few hours if im remembering correctly.
245  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: antminer s7 HW error on: December 01, 2015, 05:45:23 AM
I just got 2 s7's and setup one so far and after 20 minutes it has over 5k errors....nearly double your errors in a fraction of the time. Im kinda scared to see what issues the second one has. The first one also hashes at 3.2th/s and one chain runs way hotter then the other 2 chains do. I emailed bitmain though so hopefully they know what to do about this.
246  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1200 TH] EMC: 0 Fee DGM. Anonymous PPS. US & EU servers. No Registration! on: October 09, 2015, 03:45:48 AM
lol right after posting my reply the window popped up sayin btc received. my wallet was up to date too before anyone replies sayin i shoulda waited lol its been open all day so i guess i was a few secs too soon.
247  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Hands On] Bitmain AntMiner S5+ - Notlist3d on: September 08, 2015, 04:49:31 AM
The s5+ i got had zero dust in it. I was suprised it was so damn cleanlol

1 thing to note about the warranty is (and i noticed it only when they emailed me the doc the day the miner was set to be delivered):

"3. In some cases, the warranty will be void, but Bitmain can still do repairs at your own expense if requested. The following events will void the warranty:
     a. Customer removes/replaces any components by himself without receiving permission from Bitmain first;
     b. Damage caused by electrical surges, lightning, or inadequate power supply;
     c. Burnt parts on hash boards or chips;
     d. Miner/boards/components damage due to water immersion or corrosion due to wet environment."

Look at letter "c" in the above reasons to void the warranty. "C" shouldnt ever be listed with a miner because when a miner fails it rarely does so without leaving some char mark on and or around the component that failed. Things like chips and smd caps tend to bubble and darken the surrounding areas so by putting this in the "reasons for warranties being void" section makes the warranty pretty much pointless. Ontop of that opening the miner can void the warranty too so just trying to look at the non working board/boards can get u a big old "warranty voided" sticker slapped on ur super expensive purchase. Kinda sucks that they gave me this info only after i made my purchase so i couldnt decide beforehand. Maybe i missed this info when i read the description of the miner.
248  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S5 - Underclock - Undervolt - Best J/GH on: August 24, 2015, 12:48:40 PM
so im reading this thread and while i didnt read all the posts i did see someone getting mad about what seemed like money loss with equipment being purchased and not trusting what this guy says but why wouldnt he/she just buy a server psu that can have a voltage range from 9v-15.8v? thats what i did and i have been undervolting my s5's for months now....the only diff for me is the machine will not start hashing unless the voltage is 12v. once the frequency is set and the machine is booted i have to turn the pot added to my psu's to lower the voltage to match whatever frequency i choose. if i go too far the machine gets more hw errors if i hit the number needed everything is fine.
249  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Cointerra Hardware Support **Unofficial on: August 11, 2015, 12:26:55 PM
has ne one heard anything about a posible volt mod for these miners?? the prices have tanked and they can be snagged up for next to nothing these days but the biggest issue of course is the power consumption....these would be great rigs if the watts per gh/s could be improved and im sure they can SOMEHOW. i can repair the boards i just dont know what to do to figure out a posible volt mod....so basically i can work with already defined components but figuring out what to replace and what to replace it with is beyond me probably because i dont have proper schooling but ne way is you change the level in the config page from 1-9 the power consumption is the same throughout each level which shouldnt be that way. if the voltage was being modded with the power level then they should show some increase in efficiency even when comparing level 1 to level 9 the consumption is basically exactly the same which is horrible.

these things have pumps die because the heat is too much for them 24/7 365. the pumps dont actually die most of the time they just dont spin until fixed but running a machine with a siezed pump with kill the pump shortly after it siezes so its best to unhook them. if the efficiency can be made better then running them at much slower speeds isnt an issue for me and probably many others out there since they will be more reliable, use less power, will have fewer failures, and most impacting to the small/home based miner....they will be much quieter when running.

if ne one has ne info on a volt mod please pm me since i dont check this thread too often.
250  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: The quest for the Antminer S5 Ribbon Data cable. on: June 14, 2015, 04:46:22 PM

Not to sound rude but im confused by ur reply and its probably on my end...u say the cutoff works and it stops sucking up full power when it hits 80 degrees c or higher right??....

No. Miner only stop hashing, however, miner will not continue give out warm.  But now I have a bigger and better pump.
SC-750WATER PUMP  http://shop.syscooling.com/goods.php?id=26

However, too small radiators for 2 x S5 . I  use a total of three sets of Antminer C1 radiator  connected together.

All my C1 have been rebuilt for S5 style air cooling.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=914354.40

exactly!! this has been confirmed by support that its caused because bitmain set the miner to run test hashes for whatever reason. this causes the miner to mine locally and constantly discard the hashes because they cant be submitted anywhere. bitmain said it will be changed but i still havent seen said change made yet and judging by their updates i might not want to upgrade to this change anyway because it breaks support for 4 boards. but really this feature is wasteful and not needed at all! it defeats the purpose of having the miner stop hashing when it hits 80 degrees because in the backround the miner will just continue to hash away. sure it isnt submitting the hashes to a pool but it is still sumitting hashes....just into the trash pile locally so again it doesnt actually stop hashing.

now on a side note who wants cables?? i can make them for people....noy spliced together cables either but 1 solid cable allowing folks to connect 4 boards to each controller....the only thing is you will need to reuse the plug from your current cable. so you will have to pop the old connectors out of the plug which takes all of a few seconds and then you slide the new custom length cable in there. i will start a thread in the for sale section when everything arrives but until then shoot me a pm if you want cables made. i can take pp and btc as payment and inside the us it wont cost more then 2 bucks per shipment since i can pop them into bubble mailers i use to ship stuff on ebay so ya. outside the us will cost whatever that costs. i made my own cables by splicing them before finding the stuff to make them myself and let me tell u splicing them is a huge pain in the ass even with the use of the "helping hands" tool.

but ne way lmk if interested via a pm so i can guage the interest in this and see if its worth offering the service to folks.
251  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Modify S5 Antminer to watercooling on: June 07, 2015, 11:03:14 PM
any progres?

Yes the ramsyncs I purchased to put on the temp chip took the temp down from 70-80 c to 55-60c (its in an enclosed cabinet with fans pulling air out of the top.) Unfortunately that was short lived as the Western Power were doing something nearby and we had 3 power surges/brownouts within an hour and it has killed one of my hashing boards.

Lol not to sound rude but somethin about this sounds bad...ur gonna trick the miner into believing its running cooler then it actually is and u expect it to not die from the added stress of mining at a much higher temp?? Heat kills miners and i have seen this post multiple times when googling so i figured i should reply now since i have read it too many times now....if the temp sensor is faulty then u should replace it or shoot bitmain an email but dont run it with a heatsink faking the temp readings just so u can mine again....theres a reason that auto shutoff is set at 80 degrees...even if it doesnt actually work properly the temp is still listed so rethink where ur mining and i wouldnt sugest doin this to other miners. It might be y ur board died not surges. Sure its posible but it could have just crapped out after being run under stress for too long.

On a side note i got the huge rad kit and s5 kit syscooling sells. It cost me almost $500 and the company is a pack of liars for sure. They told me it was shipped after i had to ask and threaten multiple times to get some sort of update after mot hearing anything about my order. They said it was shipped and they will give me the tracking info later that day and 4 days later i still had no tracking so i emailed twice and finally got a reply with tracking and sure enough the label was just printed right before he replied so i was told it shipped and waited a week only to find out it wasnt shipped at all which explains y i was being ignored for 5 days before actually getting the number. How is that legit?? But whatever onto the rest.

I email them explaining my issue and they kept blaming the currier for this problem but fedex clearly said when the label was printed....its one thing to blame them after it was shipped but fedex doesnt pickup packages before printing labels and hold onto items for a week before buying the postage....and if they do its on them to verify that doesnt happen which they didnt do.

So i finally got the first kit which was the radiator and it was warped and bent. The fins were fine and it doesnt leak but it wasnt square at all. Also u cant mount fans on the back side like they say u can. Maybe im as dumb as a box of rocks but how is 1 leg for something so large stable?? They only give 1 leg to go onto one side of the radiator. 2 legs would be good and even better would be 4 legs so its a larger stable base to keep it from tipping over. Instead i have to find the sweet spot by sliding the leg up and down to tilt it forward or backwards to balance it and stop it from tipping over and even then its not stable. Its not a huge budget part either so y they went all jew on something so simple is beyond me.

The second box arrived 2 days later with the s5 kit. Immediately i noticed the case was poorly cut. It wasnt due to shipping it was due to their production processes and lack of quality control checks. The case was the biggest issue. If they got damaged during shipping the outside would be dented inwards....instead the case had dents that were facing outwards meaning they were there before the package was even sealed. I had to use body hammers to flatten it back out because the case didnt line up at all. The grill slots were bent as well and i had to spend about 2 hours pounding away to fix all this bullshit. I was pissed but luckily i was too tired to complain since i did this after i had gotten off work so i was ballz tired by the time i finished.

They gave plenty of tubing and shrink tubing which was nice. They also gave extra ribon cable which was another bonus even though i had my own already.

The next issues were with the waterblocks. 1 the waterblocks have 2 holes each that dont allow screws to go into them. They can start screwing in but not as far as they should so the spring sits losely on the top instead of providing the tension needed to push the board down onto the blocks. Ik this is a defect in the manufacturing because each block has this issue with the same 2 holes! Luckily i have taps and dies so i tapped out the 2 holes correcting their screwups. The second issue is the barbs on the blocks....they are too effin big! I had to heat and stretch the tubing a bit just to get it to slide over the barbs and even with that stretching it was hard as shit! I have blisters on my fingers from me trying to get it over the barbs. I had to take a tiny bit of oils to lube he bab up too. Not alot by ne means. Even with the tiny drop i spread around with my finger it tooks a ton of preasure just to get the tube over the initial barb. They should have tapped g1/4 holes in the blocks instead of adding barbs themselves. If they had tapped the holes the barbs would have been smooth like the chrome ones they provide and sliding tubing on those isnt easy but its night and day compaired to the blocks barbs. It should be tight ik that but this is too fricken tight. I shouldnt have blisters. This isnt my first water cooling setup either so please dont "noob" me lol.

Also on a side note i learned botmain chaged their controller card design. Luckily i had 4 of the same type but i found out 1 version has a 18 pin connector and one has a 16 pin connector. One controller is v1.3 and the other is v1.4. The 1.4 one has 2 extra pins so i had to take 1 miner off the block and replace it with the 5th miner i had because i had 3x v1.3 s5's and the 4th had a v1.4 board but i didnt notice the difference until it was already setup. And extending the cables was a pain in the ass for sure. Only 2 of the cables had to be extended so 1 per controller not including 1 4 pin connector since the other 4 pin connector was long enough because the controller plug was facing the right way but only on that side but extending the cables too me about an hour each so before i said bitmain mass ordered cables...i think i can change that now because they clearly changed from 18 pin connectors to 16 pin connectors so they should be able to sell longer cables to people like me instead of us having to extend them ourselves which is a painnnnnn!

These china based companies r pissin me off lately. For the money im payin i expect more from them but they r just gettin worse.

252  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: The quest for the Antminer S5 Ribbon Data cable. on: June 06, 2015, 02:58:52 AM
.......what i noticed the 80 degrees cuttoff doesnt work.....

Works for me.

But  I have almost  lost  water-cooled S5 with this Nicehash soft.

1. With Four blade, he can not turn itself off at 80 degrees.

2. This soft is not been able to work  with  three-or four-blade .

Luckily my 4 blades  all  working , but I got more, as 120 degrees Celsius , after syscooling pump failure.
This is the first time that I had to  replace the hoses after miner overheating.
I'm even pleasantly surprised, that all 4 blades  survived.  After remove the hoses,  came out only  hot steam and boiling water  Grin

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=902305.msg11147009#msg11147009

But now I have  one bad termosensor, and I have a couple of times a day to make a restart . So I know that the 80 degrees cuttoff works  for me.

Not to sound rude but im confused by ur reply and its probably on my end...u say the cutoff works and it stops sucking up full power when it hits 80 degrees c or higher right?? But u say urs reached 120c+ which is 40 degrees higher then the cutoff. If your refering to cg miner stops hashing then ur right and wrong because yes it drops to 0gh/s BUT the miner is still using 600w at normal 12v power so the issue isnt that it doesnt go to 0 its that its still running in the backround which negates the shut off function that is in place. If they use 600w while hashing and while not hashing something is hashing that isnt visible. Bitmain replied to my email saying im right and that this issue was being worked on by their "engineers" and that they will provide info shortly and thats the last i heard from them. They said it has been programed to run hashes all the time even with no network conectivity it just discards the packets over and over which is y it uses 600w all the time. As a comparison if u look at the sp20's when there is no network connection it stops hashing period. The power drops to less then 50w but bitmain doesnt. So if it hits 80 degrees it should stop all activity with the exception of the controller until a set period of time has passed then it checks again and if the issue is resolved it fires back up but if not it stays shut off until the next check and so on but it doesnt. If one feature is broken the other will not work either so since this whole no network shut off doesnt work it makes the overheating temp shut off not work and just keeps pushing 600w through it until the board fries or catches fire. My damn heat sinks after less then 1 minute were ticking like a warmed up car does when you get out. It shouldnt have hit anything higher then 80degrees not 81 or 82 or anything else.

Make sense??

I should prob add the following:

1. Running stock s5 image not this nicehash image or whatever ur refering to.
2. Not running the latest firmware update from april....i updated when i got the miners and that was to the one with the date of the 7th.
3. Running 2 blades at the time of this issue. I have tried with 4 blades without issues but this actually happened when i separated the 2 miners and went to configure it after placing the controller back on the one that had it removed. It was by chance this happened because again i didnt fully seat the fan cable by mistake which i know was silly to do and im at fault there but that doesnt change ne thing else im saying.
253  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: The quest for the Antminer S5 Ribbon Data cable. on: June 05, 2015, 01:14:40 PM
Bitmain will not sell the cables to u. I asked a long time ago and they replied about them being custom cabled so im guessing that means basically they are all premade and they ordered the entire batch of cables for every s5 that could ever be made and some so they cant start new orders for only a handful of cables which i personally agree with 100% because they buy in bulk to get the huge discounts on either premade cables or the parts to make the cables themselves but i highly doubt they made them in their factory and its likely they outsourced it to another factory near by. But i can splice all the cables with some digikey ribon cables i have to extend them but thats annoying for sure. I need them for the water cooling kits for s5's.

On another note....i also want the firmware modded to stop the waste bitmain said they will fix but its been weeks since they emailed me that reply so i might need to shoot them another email and ask about the status. Basically the miner will run full tilt with or without connection to the internet. That is wasteful especially if your network goes down randomly without warning for a period of time but also since it runs full tilt 24/7 no matter what i noticed the 80 degrees cuttoff doesnt work. I left the fan slightly unhooked by mistake when i reassembled it and plugged the miner up to my laptop not to the network and when to config it and add a second pool to the miner and i noticed i could feel radiating heat and when i looked at the status page the fan was at zero rpm (my fault completely) but the temps were at 94 degrees c. Thats 14 degrees past the auto cutoff for mining so it should have stopped then waited for it to cool off then start again over and over but since it runs full tilt 24/7 it makes the auto shut off stop working and keeps it running. Now this was only after about a minute of it being booted up so i got extremely lucky but im hesitant to move the miner to another location after finding this out because what if a pump dies or if a fan dies?? It will end up like asicminer prismas all over again. Bitmain said this was going to be fixed for sure but its a hugeeee risk and im not sure others know about this yet because whos stupid enough to accidentally test the auto protection thing for overheatting?? Well damnit!!! This guy is! Ur welcome! Lol jk but ya bitmain said its a built in feature to test the boards out for when network is reattached however long down the road but thats a stupid feature in my opinion. It only wastes the electricity the miners saved and people with comcast know that comcast cuts network connections in md at least without warning sometimes or they reboot stuff that takes 15-20 mins to come back up and authenticate with the main comcast servers so this wastes alot of power especially during a rain storm or just a standard internet outage. Ne one else notice this?? I havent seen other posts about it.
254  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Spondoolies SP20 review - A Green miner with a Loud fan on: May 27, 2015, 03:01:47 AM
Ok so i read the posts in this thread and maybe i missed it but i didnt see ne one posting about doind something as simple as flipping the fan 180 degrees.

Interesting, I guess that will really help for the ASIC chips, since air direct blow on the heat sinks. The question is about the rest of the components, for example the PCI-E connectors, they will receive hot air blow out of the case, if they also have a high load, will they burn?

Currently I modified open case have all the ASICs running below 85c at 0.61V, 43db, but I found out that ASICs works better when they reach 100c, I can try this inverted fan setup when I have time

any news on that?

I think I'll need to flip the fans too.
What about the noise?

U should flip the fan. Idk y most dont. Just make sure u dont over tighten the fan screws otherwise the blades might not spin. One of the 3 sp20's i have had the fan grill slightly bent inward...i couldnt tell that it was and still cant but once the fan was reattached after being flipped the blades didnt spin. I had to losen one screw more then the other 3 and it spun freely again. I boticed it when it powered on and didnt start with the fans at full speed for the first few seconds like it normally would not when it started mining so be sure to not assume they spin freely just spend the few seconds and spin it by hand to make sure before putting the top bracket and cover back on.

My pci connectors havent mented or discolored in ne way. I needed to run them with the fan flipped because i couldnt have the huge noise they generated when running in the original direction.
255  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: undervolt antminer s3 on: May 14, 2015, 05:14:06 AM
I dont see a point in undervolting s3's or s3+'s or even spondoolies miners. Even with spondoolies which allows for control over the voltages lowering the pcie power from 12v starts increasing the power usage at the wall. The psu i used has a range from 12v all the way down to about 9.7v and the lower i went the higher the consumption was. Thats with a sp20 that is underclocked using the web interface so it wasnt maxed out or even at stock speed so u would thing it would make the watts per gh go down but it just kept goin up. I went from about 600w with 12v to over 700w on a bit more then 11v. I didnt want to push the psu ne furthereven though i could have but really the efficiency wont go ne further. The s3's r the same way too.

I did however find a way to make s5's much much more efficient at slower hashrates but the biggest thing most will notice is the fan noise is much much lower and i might even go as far as to say its quieter then the s3 double fans but maybe im used to it so ne thing lower is much much lower lol. The only other thing to do before considering the undervolting as being a guaranteed solution is to get longer cables that run from the boards to the controller so i would need 4 per controller....2 would be the norm length while the other 2 would be a few inches longer. If ne one has the part number for the cable connector please pm me with it so i can buy some and make my own if bitmain doesnt sell slightly longer ones separately but im waiting for them to reply.
256  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Cointerra Hardware Support **Unofficial on: May 08, 2015, 04:58:24 PM
ne one needing help pm me. i will pm the 2 dudes above but if ne one else is having issues getting their miners to mine shoot me a message. im usually here to help if needed and have repaired more of these then i can count from pumps to boards to psus lol so ya just lmk what u need and i will do my best to help.
257  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bitmain and Issues With 2 Batches of S5 orders totaling almost $3000 on: April 28, 2015, 04:45:26 PM
bitmain could fix the noise problem by sending the fans quiet to all their customers, but it certainly will not do it because the Chinese are too greedy for money

the fans mentioned wont fix the noise issue. the problem is the s3,2, and 1 are full contact heatsinks. while the s5 uses the same heatsink it seems the metal only touches the chip so the full amount of heat isnt being pushed into the heat sink anymore and ontop of that the second one that would go on the other side of the miner isnt being sent to customers like with the s3's signs that this was used can be seen on the components on the sides that face the plastic side plates. there is thermal paste applied there and partially whiped off which imply bitmain has run an additional cooling components on that side of the boards as well which we dont have. Other signs are that there are screw hols that arent being used that follow the same design as the otherside heatsink on the s3 which if there is no additional heatsink that is being used on that side then those screw hols wouldnt be there at all since they arent needed.

now i got refunded for my issues with bitmain. I said i would update this thread but i wont outright delete this thread because it is info that is needed. i also stated that i will revise it when an agreement is reached. so i will go do that now.
258  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bitmain and Issues With 2 Batches of S5 orders totaling almost $3000 on: April 20, 2015, 02:04:22 AM
The largest factor for my purchase was the expectation that I could extend the lifespan by lowering the voltage and raising the efficiency (as claimed by Bitmain).

I tried running my S5s on reduced voltages a few months ago, and can confirm that Bitmain's claim of 0.2W/GH is pure crap.
At 100MHz, the lowest voltage I could get the unit to hash was 11.1V (measly 320GH at 195W with LOWER efficiency).

Quiet as advertised?: BS
Can raise efficiency as advertised?: BS

exactly! thats y i purchased them too. otherwise i would have waited for other miners to get released but what hit me the most was the silent crossing out of all this info all together. that was shocking to me and im not exactly sure why folks havent been super pissed about this and if they are why post in the main s5 thread when it will be lost in the hundreds of pages where no one not even the most determined person will ever see it??

@ Bitmain:

Are these brand new & unused - or are they from your mining farm?

Ta.

Hi cathoderay,
Brand New.

Honestly, seeing this post by Bitmain, and hearing reports of them sending out dusty units with the old heat-sink design for Batch 5 completely destroyed any trust I had in them.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the performance of the B1 S5's I have, but I bought them because they were advertised as being quiet, and ~75dBA is not quiet by any reasonable measure.

Also, had some private communication with them that didn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about doing more business with them. Their pricing shenanigans with the S5 was the final icing on the cake that made me buy a bunch of SP20's and finish out my farm for the time being - It's been making more sense to just buy BTC outright than purchase miners at the current prices.

Will probably be getting out of the mining game entirely this year unless the economics significantly change.

yup and they didnt seem to think it was a big enough deal to even remove the quiet part from their description lol. they even went as far as to compare them to the s3 in sound levels lol. i wonder if they even tested these miners before selling them. its hard to believe thats the case but how else can u explain the outright listing features that are not true and listing comparisons for sound levels that are so far out of the ballpark its rediculous?? its 1 of 2 options i believe....they knew they were lying and wanted to drive sales or 2 they made a product that had no testing done what so ever and guessed the whole way. im leaning more towards the first one because when choosing the right fan bitmain had to look at the fans specs to see if it fits their needs and those specs list noise levels so even before selecting the fane for the miner they knew it was going to be much much louder then the s3 fans. this company has gone to shit so quickly.....it was so fast and started around the s2 release before the s3 release. granted my s3's were fine on my end but others had issues im having with these s5's in the way of functionality like promised voltage control when really most of them had zero control over the voltage and one that seems to follow asian miner makers.....well used and dirty miners but bitmain is taking it to the extreme and im wondering if they r so broke they have to rip customers off to get by. its gotten worse after their cloud mining went on sale.

1. The size of the home doesnt really matter. I have a 2900 square foot 3 lvl townhome and the s5's r in the basement and on the first floor i can hear the mini turbines just a spinnin away! They r loud as hell and thats with an entire floor between me and them.
I had two running in my apartment for a few months and it wasn't that bad when I had two doors closed between me and the miners, although I probably just got used to their noise. When I sold them, I 100% noticed the fact that they were not there anymore (due to their lack of noise). I would say they might be appropriate to run in your home if you had space in your garage, however I don't think this would technically make them a "home miner".

3. Ur right to a point. A buyer in their s5 thread asked if these r brand new and got replies stating they are brand new. I also got told they r brand new but they deff are NOT new not even close! With that said they have sold plenty of miners so far so they should be selling them about as fast they r making them and if they do end up making more then they r selling then lower the prices or reduce production to make up for that...dont take old dirty beat to hell miners from ur farm and send them to buyers like me while replacing the old and in my case repaired one with the brand new one and go on telling buyers brand new! They think because they r in china they r immune to legal issues but thats just not true. Sure its harder but its not imposible at all and most of all if the chinese govt gets enough complaints they can and will take action not because they feel we r right and bitmain is wrong but because they dont want to deal with the added spam on their end which isnt ideal but a solution is a solution. Bitmain has gotten too big for their own good and they think they r untouchable but they rely on customers to survive...without us they will lose a big chunk of their income so these chinamen need to learn not to kill the golden goose. Even the most ignorant of ignorant people know this!
Sales are not going to be even throughout the batch, and it is difficult to determine what the pace of sales is going to be. It is also possible (although unlikely) that the entire batch is not going to sell and they could just decide they will use the remaining miners to mine for themselves.

IMO the fact that a miner is "used" is a moot point as long as it works as advertised and is covered by the same warranty. TBH I think that by arguing that they are used you are only going to distract from your other points which do seem to have some validity to them.

u sir looked at this with an open mind....i like that and i have to say i agree the used part isnt the serious part in this whole situation. i mentioned it because that by itself wouldnt annoy me enough to type up this long azz thread but with all the other stuff piled ontop of it and with bitmain ignoring me once i provide hard evidence to dispute their sidestepping i reallt felt duped enough to do all this. i have spent too many hours accepting what bitmain decided to do to really not get others to not buy their miners. like i told another dude on here....if i drive away even 1 sale from them it was worth it but i believe all of us need something back for our purchase. me and others that purchased in the batches where the 9v parts was still present deserve more for sure but others that purchased after deserve something for the noise issue and how they were compared to the s3 and how they were quieter then the s3's were which the s3's were whisper quiet compared to these.

I agree that the S5's were really much too loud for home use (unless you have a large amount of space between the miners and your living area. However anyone buying a large number of miners is unlikely to have a setup that involves a large number of miners near a living area (too much power would be needed). I am not sure what the best solution would be here - probably something along the lines of offering refunds to people immediately after they received the S5 and were in a situation that would not allow them to have them on without it being a disturbance.

I don't know the details about various voltage ratings, however I do know they did advertise that efficiency would increase substantially (I believe ~.21 w/gh) when a special PSU was used.

Any miner that you buy and is not a "pre-order" is not going to be "brand new" because the manufacturer is going to need to run them between the time they produce them and the time they ship them, otherwise they would be loosing out on money they could be making - also the value of the miners depreciates over time so if they just hold them idol then they will be outright loosing money

2. Yup they sure did and they kept it listed as being a featured up until batch 5 i believe so thats batch 1,2,3, and 4 that had this feature listed as a definitive feature not one that may or may not work and blahh blahh. They flat out didnt tell people they didnt test this so called feature either so theres no way one out assume it was an iffy feature....but bitmain in their infinite wisdom decided to tell me we guaranteed 1150gh/s so we didnt guarantee this feature worked but even now their specs listing is wrong! They still say "quiet" and i dont think me or ne other customer should be effed in the as like this...ik some have spent way more then what i spent on these but no matter the buyer everyone deserves the same treatment.
