1441  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: December 04, 2016, 06:18:04 PM
What are the reasons for this dump, if any?

1) Bitcoin is strong and it doesn't seem as if it wants to go down anytime soon

2) If I would be invested in ETH I would also lose trust after all the drama since May (DAO)

omg neucoin  Cry

I am sad to see the price neucoin now

Your a dickhead,
just like MikeM on neucoin forum, (soon to be shut down to lessen the embarrassment)
MikeM says "I've lost plenty already, so maybe it's worth taking a last chance punt on buying? Who knows?"
Go for it Mike.

Who knows? Well I did, and Tempus, Gekko, Jonald, scambo, Liqio.... to name a few, we all know.
MikeM. What a dickhead.

Lost $20.  Lesson learned.  Would like my money back though.

They have 10 BTC left https://blockchain.info/address/3MrNuksZ1VePU3dGiSQFiouWerJUJgDkfH

Just email Daniel Kaufman, he'll gladly refund.

Looks like you reminded them that they still had 10 BTC.  They removed it today.

Interesting...

1444  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: December 03, 2016, 08:21:57 PM
A few questions I hope someone can answer.

The reason Factom works with a token (Factoid) is to prevent it from SPAM. With Factoids you can buy (EC) Entry Credits.

2. Are the costs of 1 entry equal to 1 EC?

2. yes

yes, but only in some circumstances.

Entries need 1 EC per partial KiB.  If an entry is 4310 bytes in payload, it will require a minimum of 5 ECs.  There is a maximum payload size of 10240 bytes, which would require 10 ECs.

The bytes that are counted are the payload.  This includes the content, as well as the data in the extIDs.  Also charged is the 2 byte over head for each extid describing its length.
https://github.com/FactomProject/FactomDocs/blob/master/factomDataStructureDetails.md#entry

When creating a new chain, it takes a new entry to be the first one in the chain.  Since creating a new chain adds overhead into the system, it requires more ECs to make a chain.  It takes an extra 10 ECs on top of the quantity for the payload to make a new chain.  Making a chain takes between 11 and 20 ECs.

Ah... okay, thanks for the clarification! I mixed it up and believed one entry would be limited to 1 KiB but your explanation definitely makes more sense.
1445  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: December 03, 2016, 05:59:17 PM
Factom, Inc. Welcomes Three Veteran Executives

Mahesh Paolini-Subramanya comes to Factom from Cielo24, a media intelligence company, where he served as EVP. He has also held positions as VP of R&D and head of Cloud-teams at Ubiquiti Networks, a networking technology provider. He also founded Aptela, which became one of the largest cloud-based unified communication services in the nation. Aptela was later acquired by Vonage.

“Factom’s unique technology brings reliability, scalability, and ease-of-use to the blockchain world,” said Paolini-Subramanya. “Bringing immutability and referencability to documents, be they blobs or structured data, while still providing the performance characteristics necessary to survive in the high-volume and high-velocity world of modern services—this is a game-changer.”

======

Laurie Pyle will lead the creation of a suite of mortgage technology products. Pyle has extensive experience in the mortgage technology field, including helping create the nation’s largest mortgage electronic network. Previously, she served as managing director at Corsair Associates. She has also served as EVP and CIO of Stewart Lender Services, where she headed the technology and operations teams. She was also a founding executive at RealEC Technologies, where she oversaw product strategy, product design, and client solutions.

“I am very excited to be working with the Factom team,” said Pyle. “Factom protocol has great potential to significantly impact a number of facets of the mortgage industry for the better with increased transparency and indelible audit records.”

=======

Jason Nadeau will lead mortgage strategy, revenue growth, and business development strategy at Factom. With more than 20 years’ experience in mortgage technology, Nadeau most recently served as Senior Director at Corsair Associates, where he offered strategic consulting to mortgage technology companies. He has also served as Group President at Stewart Title and CEO of Stewart Lender Services, leading the company’s business lines and technology services. Nadeau also served as Founder, President and CTO of RealEC Technologies. In this role, he helped develop the largest electronic partner network for the mortgage industry.

“The Factom solutions for the Mortgage Industry are some of the most innovative, yet easy adopted, ones that I’ve encountered,” said Nadeau. “The ability to apply blockchain technology to the documentation and data challenges of the mortgage industry creates a completely new paradigm for compliance.”

Interesting is, that this topic is in the media now, because it's not that new:

Austin, Texas – October 12, 2016 – Factom, Inc., a Blockchain as a Service (BaaS) company focused on delivering products that guarantee document and data integrity at scale, is pleased to announce the addition of three veteran executives with deep experience building distributed systems and enterprise mortgage software.  - See more at: https://www.factom.com/blog/factom-woos-mortgage-industry-experts-to-blockchain-technology-startup#sthash.kIZAQIct.dpuf
https://www.factom.com/blog/factom-woos-mortgage-industry-experts-to-blockchain-technology-startup

And one of them, Jason Nadeau, wrote this article - published yesterday:

How Blockchain Will Revolutionize Mortgages
http://www.themreport.com/news/technology/12-02-2016/blockchain-will-revolutionize-mortgages

What is 99% safe in my opinion: Factom has something in the pipeline regarding the mortgage-market, otherwise they wouldn't hire 3 experts.

And Software is also already there:

"Next was a look at some use cases with Factom Apollo, a real-time auditing and verification tool which has been used to improve areas such as mortgage transfer."
http://allcoinsnews.com/2016/04/16/coinprism-and-factom-present-at-coinsilium-london-blockchain-tech-lab/

Apollo:

Maybe the recent media-activity can be seen as a good sign. And, the mortgage-market is a big one:

A few questions I hope someone can answer.

The reason Factom works with a token (Factoid) is to prevent it from SPAM. With Factoids you can buy (EC) Entry Credits.

1. What is the price of an EC (as I heard this always stays the same, regardless of the Factoid price)?
2. Are the costs of 1 entry equal to 1 EC?
3. If the Factoids are meant for preventing SPAM, why are they tradable at all? i.o.w: Why not just buying EC's directly for a fixed price and that's it.

1. Price is $0.001

2. yes

3. Factoids are also meant as payment for those who run the federated server (about 73k FCT in total per month). That's why they are an important aspect for a decentralized system. And the value of Factoids will reflect the use of the system, because every time when Entry Credits are bought, Factoids are converted into EC's and "burned" and the total supply decreases.

Price for an EC is $0.001, but in the future who will set the price for an EC? Factom? Federated servers?

I'm not totally sure if it's still the plan, but I believe yes: There might be something like a voting-mechanism of the federated servers, that they set the price to find the best equilibrium between high-usage (a low EC-price would be an incentive) and a high burning rate of Factoids per EC (a high EC-price would burn more FCT's). Or the other way around: If they would set the EC-price too high the use of the system would decrease. If they would set it too low, the rate of use would increase but the burning rate per EC also would increase.

Since the federated servers will be paid with Factoids it also would be their intention to do that as good as possible to ensure a price of Factoids that is as high as possible.

But I don't know if that is still the plan but I believe yes.

1450  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: December 01, 2016, 09:31:19 AM

Buy low and sell high ETH is a good deal now. The sheeple will return and whine about how they missed out again. First everybody said ETH was lame, then everybody fell in love with it. A community of sheep.

Do you think the ETH will not go lower? When it was $10, I thought it was the bottom, and would not go lower than that.

This sums it up pretty well:

" (...)

As for what the future holds for ethereum, market experts seemed split.

Zivkovski said while the platform holds potential, he believes there have yet to be any significant products built on the platform.

On the other hand, entrepreneur and investor Vinny Lingham told CoinDesk that ether prices have long been overvalued, emphasizing both the cryptocurrency's technical challenges and his belief that the ether supply is rising too quickly.

"The number of new ether being mined per day as a proportion of current ether in the market is too high," he told CoinDesk.

Lingham is not alone in stating that ether is overpriced, as other market observers have indicated similar sentiment via Twitter and social blogging platforms."

1451  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why I'm a Factom Skeptic "Marty jones" @reddit on: December 01, 2016, 12:33:26 AM
Not me but a guy named "Marty jones" @reddit posted this,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm open to a change of opinion, but have yet to find convincing evidence that Factom offers features that can't be accomplished solely with the Bitcoin blockchain, for only the cost of a Bitcoin transaction. This subreddit has a number of true believers who follow the company closely, so maybe one of you could show me what, if anything, I'm missing about Factom and why exactly the company demanded a +$20m valuation in it's most recent funding round.

Issues with Factom:

Stuffing a bunch of hashes of data into a merkle tree and outputting it on the Bitcoin blockchain is already possible today using OP_RETURN. Solutions such as Open Timestamps and Tierion already exist to this end; one of which is free.

32 federated servers and 32 audit servers using Proof of Authority to secure data entries will offer materially less security than the Bitcoin blockchain. Factom "chains" will be secured against tampering by no more than a few dozen servers at any time. Tamper prevention and reliably timestamped data entries are presumably the main goals of Factom's targeted customers; yet Factom adds nothing to those ends over what you get from using the Bitcoin blockchain.

The business model has no "moat" against competition. If it costs a customer 1/10th of a penny to make an entry using Factom, and the product is useful for some reason I've failed to see, a competitor will bring to the market a solution that costs 1/11th of a penny. A fierce competitor will elect not 32, but 33 servers to the federation, thereby "decentralizing" the product even further.

EDIT: I'm impressed with how quickly those in this thread stopped responding to my actual arguments in order to accuse me of trolling and market manipulation. Confirmation bias is strong in this community.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wont copy and paste what all people replyed, ill leave that to them.

A good project will have haters/doubters but this topic should bring more clarification about FCT.

You should at least give the link to that discussion: https://www.reddit.com/r/factom/comments/5f9t7t/why_im_a_factom_skeptic/

....he got answers, even from Brian Deery.
1452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Lykke - a global marketplace on: November 30, 2016, 11:06:18 AM
i checked the lykke price on https://lykke.com/exchange.php

BTCLKK pair 15736.45

I have never seen an exchange that gives so little information about market data as lykke.

Only bid price and ask price

No volume
No historical data
No graphs
No orderbook

this is really poor.

What is the reason for not showing these data?

The Lykke-App already shows a lot more. David Siegel has made some good videos about it:

Trading Pages
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXIeC_WxeeA

But, most important is, while Lykke already is far developed, it is work in progress - there is much more to come. I don't know how it will look like in a couple of months but what I know is that there will be much progress and this project is much bigger than most people understand right now.

The CEO of Lykke, Richard Olsen, is Co-founder and former CEO of Oanda: https://www.oanda.com/

Maybe one can think of the future Lykke as something like Oanda but much more. Lykke will be about forex-trading like Oanda, but because it runs on the blockchain there are kind of unlimited possibilities when it comes to assets.

My impression is, that it's not easy to understand because it is that new. But Lykke already can give an impression about how financial markets and exchange of value will look like in future. This project will surprise. ;-)
1453  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][rICO]Antshares Blockchain Mainnet is ONLINE! on: November 29, 2016, 09:09:28 PM
It's been a month now and I can't access my ans anywhere, Mac or Android. Android wallet never moves from 0% sync. On my mac I've tried both Safari and Chrome, they both sync to 100% but nothing happens after that, can't see any wallet, send, receive, nothing.

I don't have access to a windows machine so I guess I'm out of luck.

Same here. Safari doesn't work. Chrome syncs but doesn't show anything after importing the priv-key. Chrome doesn't synch - or it does, but I calculated how long it would take: 15 days.

That's really frustrating after such a long time.
1454  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Lykke - a global marketplace on: November 28, 2016, 07:08:18 PM
are you really the only one how is interessed in LKK in this forum? do you have an idea why nobody talks about it here? is it just because there is no other exchange than lykke itself is trading LKK?

and do you get something for posting here?

no, yes, noyes, yes ;-)

But, to be serious:

I help Lykke with communication, posting news etc. and when and sometimes a little bit like a bridge between users and Core-team, if there are questions I don't know the answer for example.

But I'm not the only one who is interested in Lykke. Compared to other projects that did an ICO Lykke has more Investors than most of them. But the situation is very different. Usually there is an ICO and then there is a lot of activity because of the question when it will launch, on which exchanges it will be, how the price will be etc. And once a project is on an exchange there is usually pressure on the team to release something to help the price etc.

This kind of activity is kind of missing until now, but more because of Lykkes strengths (it is the exchange, there was no time between end-of-ICO and launch and the price is pretty stable) and not because of weaknesses. I don't want to say it's good that there is a lack of activity, because more activity would generate more attention. But it's not a sign of people being disinterest. It's just patience.

Thing is: I have no doubt that the situation, when it's about attention and activity etc., will change hand in hand with development progress and other news that will come. What can be seen here are just the first steps. And it will most likely change very fast because this project is faster on fundamental side than others I know - and it's much bigger than most people think.
