Prefix '3GiG' not possible
Hint: valid bitcoin addresses begin with "1"
Vanitygen doesn't support 3 addresses AFAIK, because they use a different type of hashing. You're going to have to write your own program to do it.
1782  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Strange Idea teenagers and bitcoins.... on: August 13, 2012, 08:23:25 PM
You get girls to post sexy "jail-bait" pictures and guys send them tips. The girls can have a wishlist of stuff they want (say amazon.com) and as they accrue bitcoins they can redeem them for their stuff from the site operator. This way you don't have to teach teenage girls dumb enough to post pictures of themselves on the net how to deal with bitcoins, just male nerds.
This is stupid, sexist, and borderline illegal.

Again, I don't think teenagers are a target market. They are usually poor, and enough of them use Bitcoin anyways. Target the elderly instead.
1783  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I want firstbits key pair for 1gig on: August 13, 2012, 07:40:00 PM
Nothing personal, but I don't trust firstbits any more than online wallets. Vanitygen is cool, but vanity really isn't my thing.
I don't think anyone should trust it any more than an online wallet, unless they calculate the firstbits themselves.

Hmmm... that might be a decent standalone app.  Given a block001.dat, calculate the firstbits of a given address.
And a block002.dat, don't forget.
1784  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Strange Idea teenagers and bitcoins.... on: August 13, 2012, 07:38:03 PM
The forum has a lot of teenagers. There are the people who follow trends most closely, and among which Bitcoin is a means of expression. What we really need is an elderly population to use Bitcoin.

1786  Other / Meta / Forum undergoing explosive growth? on: August 13, 2012, 06:45:33 PM
I was wondering why BitcoinTalk was lagging so much today, until I took a look at the bottom. Most online today: 1426! And the day isn't even over.

This is the highest value since February 18th, 2012, and the second-highest since July 5th, 2011. What could be the cause of today's explosion?

Any way to add entire subforums to the watchlist? Could be useful for those who want to watch the press forum, or for mods to watch meta, staff, scam accusations, etc.

Would 3gig be good enough for you?  Just curious.

there are addresses that start with 3?
It has been a while since I looked into it but a while back that was the designation for a script based address.  If still true then eventually there will be addresses that start with 3.  Others that keep up on these things more than I can answer the question.
There are 3-prefixed addresses in common use. For example, this one. 3gig is not yet taken.

Wait... there's a option to turn that on? Shit...

Most users of any software never change the default settings (a good many don't even know there are settings). This is why Windows get pwnd on the regular. it defaults to very loose security.

Changing the default to saving the message would resolve this whole thing.

I suspect that they have it defaulting to off so avoid storing too many messages. Otherwise defaulting to off makes no sense at all.
If the forum is properly designed, no extra messages need to be stored. You can send the same message to thousands of people while storing only one copy, so saving a copy is just really sending the message to yourself as well.
1794  Other / Meta / Re: Demographics of BitcoinTalk on: August 13, 2012, 05:28:44 PM
(and, to be honest, the frequency of speeling erors on this forum do indicate a younger population).

I wouldn't say so. English language is the mother tongue of maybe half of Bitcoin users.

Scroll down to country of host.

Google Translate doesn't produce spelling errors (it does produce weird ways of expressing things, however). Posts like these indicate not foreignness to the English language, but rather incapability to properly convey English with proper orthography.

oh god i didnt know where is restriction for newbie. Admin/mods can you please whitelist me? I need to contact/reply to BFL. They dont seem to answer my email at all.

 Undecided

I've herd there cust support isn't the best

because there is not clear information abour newbies restrinction, i thing it shoul be some information on first page

Well for me I think Solo mining would make sense.Think about it at the time of this writing 1 BTC goes around 13.40 give or take.If you wait long enough to break a block(depending on what hardware you have) you'll eventually get 50 BTC which when multiplied to the current rate would be 670 USD. Now if you factor in how much 1 BTC will be valued by the time you break a block you'll get alot more than that because as we know bitcoin prices can get pretty high. But you also have to factor in alot of other variables such as the cost of the rig(Unless you happen to have one already) Electricity(Unless you don't pay it) and time(unless you don't have shit to do.

1796  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mt. Gox USD 365-day change is now negative... when will it become positive? on: August 13, 2012, 01:02:10 PM
Chart. We're back in the positives now, but for how long? Actually, probably for a while yet, considering how the 2011 trendline is flat down until December.
1797  Other / Meta / Re: Demographics of BitcoinTalk on: August 13, 2012, 12:44:32 PM

Yes, but this one includes gender, and, for some reason, a 0-9 category.
People on the upper end of that category likely have the ability to utilize BitcoinTalk (and, to be honest, the frequency of speeling erors on this forum do indicate a younger population).

Nonetheless, my real reason for including the 0-9 category is to make a population pyramid.

... solution to violence ...

I think you are looking at this the wrong way.

Your goal is less violence as an end in itself.  When violence is a means towards any given end.  Maximum total material wealth turns out to be produced by using violence only in defense of private property.

Violence is simply a feature of our physical existence and isn't going anywhere.

Violence is suboptimal. Competition can occur without violence and contributes more to further development of the human race.

In fact, many species display no violence towards others of that species. These include many plants, aquatic life, and even our closest primate relatives.

Really? Our closest primate relatives are pacifists and don't fight for sexual dominance? Cites please...

1799  Other / Meta / Demographics of BitcoinTalk on: August 13, 2012, 02:16:05 AM
I was wondering if the Bitcoin community tends to be male-dominant and young, especially with many memes that poke fun at elderly women, of which likely few use Bitcoin. Since I think this community is a large sample of Bitcoin users, I'm starting a poll. Unless forum admins are snooping, this is fully anonymous, so please be honest!

Clarifications
  • Age is measured from date of birth. All categories are inclusive.
  • Please enter your gender at birth if you cannot classify yourself as male or female.
  • If you have more than one account, please vote with only one account.
  • Please vote as soon as you see this thread, so as to avoid bias in people crossing age boundaries.
