441  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SegWit yay or nay? come vote here. on: January 23, 2017, 01:17:28 PM
Bitcoin will never reach its full potential without segwit. Without segwit we can't have a lot of cool features that will improve bitcoin later on, andreas recently wrote an article on why segwit is the way to go:

https://medium.com/segwit-co/segregated-witness-and-aligning-economic-incentives-with-resource-costs-7d987b135c00#.xy3j5m4i3

Time to activate segwit otherwise keep crying about why bitcoin sucks.
442  Economy / Speculation / Re: The China Effect on: January 22, 2017, 11:48:27 PM
China is just playing his cards... it's all about timing. They are dropping all those small bombs, trying to constantly dip the price and profit from it. It's obvious there are some people out there with insider information getting rich with all those dips that happen whenever the PCOS has to say anything, notice that it doesn't matter what they are saying, but when. The result is always the same: a dip.

But that has a short lived effect, eventually they will run out of steam, once all the cards are used, they will have nothing left, all those programmed dips will not happen again and Bitcoin will rise higher than Huge Black Woman's diabetes.
443  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin break $2000? because of Trump? on: January 22, 2017, 05:15:23 PM
I think this fact will happen in this year. After Trump 's inauguration , Bitcoin price is rising up higher and it's quite closer to 1,000$ price. it seems the world economy is ready for new crisis when USD is down badly with Trump's decision and it has effected to bitcoin price immediately.

what you are saying is highly speculative. and i have been hearing it for many years about USD value dropping and failing economy of US, and i am not saying it is never going to happen but i have never seen any valid argument and it has not yet happened

In fact, you just haven't been watching closely enough

Most likely, you refer to the ultimate dollar collapse which is a speculation bordering on wishful thinking or outright bullshit, but if we refrain from sweeping assertions and start talking about the dollar value behavior, this is exactly what happened during all 2000s. You can see that yourself at the historical USDX value chart below which shows the value of the US dollar against major currencies over time

As you can see, the dollar still has a lot of room to go down

Both the dollar and other indicators like S&P500 and other big indexes are bubbled and will soon start crashing. We are at the verge of a new economical collapse and it's going to be fun when shit hits the fan since if you did your homehork you should be all in on bitcoin by now.
444  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dead cat bounce, dreams shattered again. on: January 22, 2017, 05:01:55 PM
I bet many delusional bitcoiners were thinking we were heading for $1000 again.
Fundamentals are still flawed and not being fixed, there is no support in the orderbooks, forget $1000.
To maintain $1000 i think we need many more smarter and wealthy people to be invested in bitcoin, which they won't because it's not smart to begin with.
We are going back down to 2014 values as there is nothing to hold these prices once the manipulators are done taking your dollars!

See you at $500.

Wrong, this is just chinese whales using the chinese regulation news to short and buy cheaper. The overall trend is still up, the china news are increasingly less effective in crushing the price, so they will realize they will make more money going long. Sorry for your loss as you obviously had short positions. See you at 1000$ you punk.
445  Economy / Speculation / Re: Speculation Rule: buy when others are irrationally pessimistic or too cautious on: January 20, 2017, 04:42:02 PM
Shelby, what about POS coins? Don`t you think they are totally immune from government controls?

Expect they are always controlled by a few whales, and thus the authorities can target those whales.

Centralization is always the weak point.

But if this POS coin is based on TOR or I2P?

So you have no answer to my question?

Apologies I've been suffering a bad GI infection past few days so my attention span was quite limited. I didn't see your reply.

TOR and I2P can be subverted by national security agencies (don't ask me to rehash the details of this as I already had these discussions long ago in the context of Monero and anonymity). Bottom line is that if a government wants to pinpoint an individual, they have the resources to do so. Again I repeat, Centralization is always the weak point.

Please read my prior post just above yours. Understand how the pathetic Apaches defeated the mighty Spanish.

Also it isn't just that the whales can be targeted by the authorities, but the whales themselves ruin the ecosystem. Only decentralized systems can scale. This is why open source trumps closed source. Who would invest in an ecosystem controlled by individuals.

Imagine if the underlying Internet protocols such as TCP/IP were controlled by whales.

So do you think all POS coins are eventually doomed? I think the proof of stake problem was never fixed was it? it's a big vector attack.

I was looking at dropping some coins on Iconomi cause I want to get more BTC and its one of the few altcoins with a healthy looking all time graph, project is interesting definitely, but the downside: its based on ETH, which will hard fork to go full POS ultimately... your opinion on this??
446  Economy / Speculation / Re: 1000$ rally tomorrow on: January 19, 2017, 06:11:25 PM
Believe me. Chinese traders will have pivotal role in the bitcoin trading for a long time, until China will ban bitcoin and they decide to dump all coins. Bitcoin's price is still being formed mainly in China.

As much as I would like for Trump's inauguration to boost price of BTC, but I expect it will be another political event without real influence on Bitcoin, just like Brexit before.

Right, but it seems that the chinese have less power everytime they try to collapse the price (by chinese i mean official statements by the chinese government)

So what can we expect? if a ban happens, a big crash would happen, but the price would recover. Then what can the chinese government do after that? they cant no longer have any tactics, they lost control of bitcoin by fully banning it. Thats why banning is a double edged sword.
447  Economy / Speculation / Re: Trump inauguration and Bitcoin price on: January 19, 2017, 04:51:59 PM
Well whatever might happen we are about to find out. I would pay attention to chinese houes for any action in the markets, usually this is when most people in the west are sleeping tho, so that's a problem. Maybe it's worth staying up all night? Im not sure. There's an Alex Jones stream, that may make it fun, he is hilarious. You can look at that while monitoring the bitcoin price. The price is looking great tho, looks like 900 boat is back.
448  Economy / Speculation / Re: Don't fall for the chinese scammers trying to make you panic sell on: January 19, 2017, 03:05:24 PM
Getting panic doesn't have to do anything with this, as even collectively group of guys having low number of coins selling can't make the difference, but this gets hotter when those big boys come up and try to shake up the markets through their big sell orders being eaten up, which they want. What we need to do is, stay away from the games being played every now and then to show people the power these guys have, if we will not show any interest, they will not take more actions because it will be of no use to them.

The big players still need the big mass of ordinary people to follow their lead otherwise the shakedowns would be very small. If you take the % of panic sellers out of the last crash, we would have not went under 1000$ for a long time and we would have certainly not touched 7xx territory again. They depend on people's fear.
449  Economy / Speculation / Don't fall for the chinese scammers trying to make you panic sell on: January 19, 2017, 01:28:47 PM
The chinese are using the PBOC as an excuse to crush the price and short and use all the panic sellers on their advantage.

How do we stop them and fuck them up? easy, don't panic sell when they release more PBOC messages. If they see that they can't manipulate the price with those PBOC messages,, they will try to stop shorting and they will start longing pushing the price up.
450  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy at $780-800 USD on: January 19, 2017, 12:43:17 PM
Based upon the Op's quote we could have bought when the price was staggering within the range of $780 - $800. Now it could have given a better profit, none of the users might have thought that such a growth happens now because the price went down after a major peak increase. As price have been sustaining no more drop in price can be expected soon.

See the today's value buddy. It 890$ now. Again bitcoin value is getting increase in the price chart. I hope that bitcoin will again touch to 1100$ before this year ends. Try to dump the btc in your wallet itself . I am sure you could make profit in upcoming months.

Bottom already happened in the mid 700's USD. It's funny how some people still are dreaming with lower prices, because we are going to go 1000$ soon. Trump is a mess and he is going to keep shaking the geopolitical scene one tweet at a time. This will keep making gold and bitcoin up.
451  Economy / Speculation / Re: Trump inauguration and Bitcoin price on: January 17, 2017, 07:07:17 PM
People are always looking for a reason when price go up or down, this time some will say that this increase is happen because of Trump inauguration.Considering that this is Trump and that he is actually an entrepreneur it is possible that he will be in favor of BTC.It is hard to say whether he or how will affect on BTC,but if he carried out some of his ideas in reality the world will be a little different place than it is now.

I think it's a little bit of both. The reason that trump is going to become the next president shakes the entire geopolitical spectrum up, prices tend to shake too. But to what extent is this the reason the bitcoin is rallying? we cant know, what we know is, bitcoin is looking fantastic at 900+ again, showing it can recover from big blows time after time.
452  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi's coins rights on: January 17, 2017, 06:19:55 PM
I guess it's best to sacrifice those coins in the possibility of a quantum computing attack. We are going to sooner or later be facing that problem, we must be prepared, but those that didn't took the time to move their coins ito QC proof addresses must suffer the consequences. I doubt anyone that cares about their bitcoin will not have enough time to get it sorted.

If satoshi doesn't move the coins in time, it's safe to assume that he is dead, or he doesn't care about his coins getting stolen.
453  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 100 ether vs 1 btc on: January 17, 2017, 05:17:30 PM
Hi bitcointalk,

I have about 100 eth on my ledger wallet, should I convert them to bitcoins or stay in ethereum? Should I go 50/50? Or go all in on one of them?

What are the pros and cons in this violent market?

Please share your two cents

If you are going for long term gains, gor sure, sell your ETH as soon as possible. Ethereum is not a a long term investment. The technology is too experimental. TC makes it a fuckfest, anything can happen, an undetected bug that destroys everything could be found, literally just like that... I dont see how ETH can be something you can trust long term.

If you are short then maybe gamble it out holding those 100 ETH and hope for the best.
454  Economy / Speculation / Re: Trump inauguration and Bitcoin price on: January 17, 2017, 04:07:27 PM
So in the build up to the Trump inauguration, we might see some investors hedging their wealth in commodities. Bitcoin has been very volatile the last few weeks. Do you think these investors will still use Bitcoin as a possible safe-heaven or would they rather turn to traditional safe-heavens like Gold?

Do you think this event would influence investors to move towards Bitcoin or Gold? How much would the final decision from the SEC on their long-proposed bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) hamper the investment in Bitcoin by serious investors?

Give your view on this?

We have already seen an impact in the cryptoworld. I think Trumpcoin went up to x15, that's a ton of money out of nowhere all because of trump.

Maybe the current BTC rally is also due the psychological factor of expectation for a certain date. We may see 1000+ again for 20th, who knows. I think the people that sold at below 800 fucked up big time.
455  Economy / Speculation / Re: Silence! accumulation? on: January 16, 2017, 06:34:39 PM
once again, things are silent around these parts. not much talk about price and looking at the charts price is stable once again and each time this happens i see everyone accumulating bitcoin to get ready for the next phase of the rise.

what do you think?

It's a good reading. People are probably accumulating again now that the storm seems to be over. Unless unexpected news happen (and nobody can predict those) we should seee a stable price until the next run. Worst case scenario, what I just said happens and we dip further, but long term anything under 800 USD is a steal. I still think 2000 is very possible in 2017.
456  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Increasing blocksize dynamically w/economic safeguards - the ideal compromise? on: January 16, 2017, 04:56:43 PM
gmaxwell as a XMR supporter and holder (I think) what do you think of the Monero's way to deal with the blocksize problem? they are running a dynamic blocksize solution, what do you think about it? what are the differences from this compared to BU's proposal?

Do you think Monero can end up in a tricky situation if the volume of transaction starts growing where the blocksize becomes too big then it becomes too centralized? (which would make it less secure than just using bitcoin and additional anonymous features). I heard some guy talking about how they have a method of raising the fees if that happens, but then it's the same problem again (fees too high) so whats the point?

Im trying to guess if I want to buy a long term position in Monero but since im not a coder and only an investor I can't understand all the details  Cry

Can anybody explain the pros and cons in an ELI5 way or its not possible?

I just see a lot of people here saying how dynamic solution is the best and "blockstream don't want it so they can profit from sending most of transaction volumes throught LN" and stuff specially that franky1 guy is saying that here all day and as a non coder I dont know who to believe anymore  Cry
457  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: which coin to trade base on thier statistics? on: January 15, 2017, 07:44:56 PM

if you are to start trading on altcoins, what sort of consideration should check before buying?

Should you chose Ripple because of their high volume per day yet the price is just cents and the total supply is 33 trillion or should I chose go to trade with low supply like Monero because the price is more than $10?

What are the things you consider before buying a coin, its Market Cap, Price, Available Supply and volume?

I look mainly at 4 points:

Fundamentals: Is the coin offering something new or worth anyone's time? Is the coin another total shitcoin?

Supply: Is this coin a coin with billions of total coins with massive inflation? Or is a scarce asset?

Developers: Are they nobodies or someone you can trust?

Marketing: Maybe it's a shitcoin like Dogecoin or Trump, but those can pump as we have seen.
458  Economy / Speculation / Re: How the Chinese rumours benefit other countries. on: January 15, 2017, 06:29:17 PM
Why do you think I dropped everything and ran to the ATM when Bitcoin touched $750?

PLEASE let Bitcoin drop to $500, would love to get 2 BTCs for $1k.

I doubt we'll ever see $500 again, I don't see any other news making the price crash again, so what I say is we will start climbing again slowly with small increments. We went from a stable->instacrash small periods, we will go from stable to small growth spurts cycles.
459  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you think we will break the $2000 mark some day? on: January 15, 2017, 05:32:16 PM
Yes we will break 2000$ mark one day, but not this year. I assume we will be near that mark on next halving which is for 3 and a half years from now. Before that only some miracle need to happen to we see that jump on 2000 and more dollars.
Segwit is not even near to be activated, who will know will it be activated in some time and even if activated can that boost price so much.

If we are still at $2000 in 3 and a half years im going to be dissapointed. We should be at $2000 this year, next year if anything... but in 3 to 5 years, we should be sitting at least at a solid $5000 floor. Anything else is a failure. We should have sidechains by then, so the price of the bitcoin network should be at all time highs.
460  Economy / Economics / Re: $1100 to $750 is significant on: January 14, 2017, 07:11:07 PM
what i do is not based on times like this, i bought when price was low at $200 then sold a small portion when price had its first rapid rise and then bought back more bitcoin because i had profit.

then waited for another rapid rise and i did the same thing and bought back again.

after doing this a couple of times i now posses lots of bitcoin that i never though i could have.

and this rise was no different, i only sold a small portion on $1100 and i have been buying back at different levels and mostly at the 750-800 dollar range because of it being the bottom.

This is the same strategy I use when buying a particular stock for long term. I may wait on a bad day in the market then accumulate. BTC will become less volatile in the coming years and I am looking forward to that.

If it gets less volatile means the times for big gains would be over. You either want big gains or you want less volatility...

I don't see BTC becoming stable until it's around 100K per coin. We would need a trillionaire market cap in order to avoid the big ins and outs of money from the system. Anything less than a trillion marketcap is prone to big swings.
