1181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: An Insider’s View Of A Successful Bitcoin Startup on: June 16, 2015, 04:08:24 PM
Perhaps the reason why all five points will be ignored by anyone with a clue is that the premise is ill defined.

WTF is a "bitcoin business"?

If I am selling tacos for 5 milllies each is that a "bitcoin business"?  Because most people would call it a restaurant.

One does not simply name a currency and then imagine that in so naming, one has a business.  Perhaps if one did do this, one would want to worry about name, social media, conferences, or anything else that would distract us from realizing that hey: we have nothing anyone actually wants.

Image problem?  How about starting with a business plan?

Good point. A bitcoin business in the strict sense of the world, SHOULD be a business that deals directly with the currency, like running an exchange, something like that. Or maybe that is incorrect too, since an exchange is an exchange.. the thing is it's as absurd as saying "I have a dollar business", but since bitcoin is new and different, the phrase "bitcoin business" caught on as a way to say "I accept BTC in my business".
1182  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: OpenBazaar - decentralized eBay on: June 16, 2015, 04:05:17 PM
I think in the future the concept of escrow will be yet another work that gets replaced by technology, when decentralized trustless systems are perfected there will be no need for escrows anymore.
1183  Economy / Speculation / Re: After corrections, Bitcoin is now ready to go to $1777! on: June 14, 2015, 09:32:51 PM
We've obviously ended the long term correction phase, but from now on it will still be a low price with small ups and downs, which people will perceive as stability, but eventually we'll have other mini crashes before the new ATH, which will frustrate people and make them abandon. Unfortunately, few have the mindset to win in the game of waiting.
1184  Economy / Economics / Re: What Will it Take For BTC to Reach $1000? on: June 14, 2015, 09:24:21 PM
Mainstream user adoption with a safer/simpler way for non-tech savvy people to buy bitcoin.

It is very difficult to convince non-tech people to adopt something new that they haven't heard or used before. They would rather prefer to stay away from it or would choose some alternate option for investment on which they can trust on so the mass adoption is very necessary to reach it upto $1000 or more.

This is a basic fact of life. It's always hard to try to get people out of your confort zone. It happens to everyone. With the internet it was the same. How many people missed lifetime boats because of that?
But history will put Bitcoin where it belongs regardless what the common folk think about it now.
1185  Economy / Economics / Re: DO NOT pay off your student loans!! Sub-prime student loan bail-out is here! on: June 14, 2015, 09:18:11 PM
Why are most student's having trouble paying loans when at the time they looked into going to school they all were told this move would improve their lives because of a better job that will pay way more which says you can pay for the loans because you will be making more money with your new job skills? Baloney!! It's pretty common knowledge that most of these school's and their programs are a joke. It's all about the money and the Gov knows these school's are taking everyone for a ride, but they are dragging their feet as usual in doing anything about it.
1186  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First Ever Bitcoin Bank to be Opened in Switzerland? on: June 14, 2015, 09:10:50 PM
I don't like the idea, the whole purpose of Bitcoin was to have it be a decentralized alternative currency that could be widely used. With the bank's hands all over it, they're going to profit over our (Bitcoin community) creations.

It's all about having options. With Bitcoin you can be your own bank, but what if there are people that don't want to be their own banks? Bitcoin has many purposes, having all your wealth and storing it yourself is just one, but not giving people the option to have a "bank" you are kicking a lot of people that would otherwise use BTC for its other features.
1187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does Bitcoin mean to you (A poll) on: June 14, 2015, 09:06:33 PM
I love the idea of having a escape from the "official" fiat world. A way to store wealth in a decentralized manner, that is not inside a bank, and is not physical metals, that can be sent all over the world instantly. Just brilliant.
1188  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1MB vs Gavincoin video explained in 3 minutes on: June 14, 2015, 08:58:53 PM
Aren't both proposed solutions non scalable?
How long could we go with 1MB + LN solution without a hard fork (which is what is tried to avoid at all costs) vs Gavin's blocksize increase?
Do we just accept with 1MB + LN situation that fees will keep increasing indefinitely?
1189  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin users: Will bitcoin ever be used and fully adapted as a currency? on: June 14, 2015, 08:48:49 PM
Yes it will, specially among the internet related services. All those twitch.tv, youtube, adsense type services that move millions, will all run under BTC.
Slowly society will see how physical cash gets erradicated, and BTC will be the leading way to move money.
1190  Economy / Economics / Re: Keep abreast of tech to avoid money laundering pain on: June 11, 2015, 03:11:08 PM
Keep abreast of tech developments

It is important that you keep abreast of what the new technological developments are and consider how these could be used for Machiavellian purposes. As recently as late last year, it was suggested by Brooke Satti, a leading specialist in financial crimes intelligence, that "cryptocurrencies" such as Bitcoin, are the money making mechanism of choice for ISIS. The terrorist organisation has increasingly come up against the robust barriers put in place by global commitment to anti money laundering, and counter terrorist financing.

Here is something to ask yourself: would you know how to trace transactions back through to Bitcoin? And if you did, how would you satisfy yourself of the legitimacy of the funds? While accountants are not expected to become technological experts, there is an argument for having a strong knowledge base and this is considered crucial for Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

Some people might willingly choose to be criminals. The law however, is increasingly holding those referred to as "professional enablers" (including accountants), who through ignorance or naivety engage in criminality and terrorism, equally as responsible as the lawbreakers. And for those who are at risk of falling into the latter category, I would strongly advise you to take your obligations under anti-money laundering legislation, and professional ethics seriously.

To quote poet and attorney Max Ehrmann: "Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery."

How are they going to trace transaction backs through Bitcoin once stuff like Darkwallet and Zerocoin kicks in?4
And any case, if your coins are from a legitimate origin because you trade in MtGox or whatever, how would you prove it when the exchange is closed and the transaction list are lost?
There are so many grey areas in there.
1191  Economy / Economics / Re: Government & Bitcoin on: June 11, 2015, 03:08:02 PM
Having your bitcoins insured would be nice (Circle does that), but given that you can move your bitcoins in and out the exchange instantaneously, it's not that much of a problem. Having dollars of euros on an exchange is problem, because it takes days to move them (and it can be costly, too). Coinbase is the first exchange that guarantees dollar deposits, that's a major improvement.
1192  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Goodbye, Bitcoin on: June 11, 2015, 03:00:49 PM
Proof of Work is the only known rock solid consensus mechanism that does not require external "fiddling" such as checkpoints, oracles, etc. I wouldn¡'t touch PoS with a stick.
If QT is too heave, get Electrum.
1193  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Looks like my BTC wallet was hacked on: June 11, 2015, 02:58:24 PM
The coins eventually landed up here https://blockchain.info/address/1FsVcdeHbpvUVT3gjeuVR2ZSDnpcsJMsLL
If you Google for the address, you will get several links. It seems to be an exchange address.

Have you figured out the source of the hack? Was is definitely the forum software?

How what use that would be? If he ran the coins through a exchange, it becomes as difficult as trying to guess coins after being ran by a mixer.. it's an headache trying to figure out who owns what anymore.
I would say OP downloaded some dodgy wallet from some altcoin.
1194  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin QT is extremely difficult to get working, prohibitive to Bitcoin users on: June 11, 2015, 02:53:57 PM
If my bitcoin executable is whitelisted on my firewall, do I still need to manually open 8333? How can I know if thats the correct port?
I haven't changed anything and from what i've read here I assume 8333 is still the default port?
1195  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to protect against the bitcoin robbery? on: June 11, 2015, 02:50:09 PM

Bitcoin Stolen at Gunpoint in New York City Robbery
http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-stolen-new-york-gunpoint-robbery/

I think, the victim and robbers known each other before, perhaps they would have some heated arguments and it went rise to this situation. However this is not to do anything with Bitcoins business or it brought any defamation to Bitcoins trading. Don't they have any other important news to be published, totally wasted time and money on such lame articles.

I just can't conceive another scenario that isn't a pre-set meetup of 2 persons that want to exchange cash for BTC or BTC for BTC. That's all. I don't think it's possible to go around robing people for BTC, because first of all, it's not widespread enough for the random person to have any BTC, and second of all, there is absolutely no way to know a guy owns BTC or not. It's nonsense to be in fear of being robbed for your BTC, you should fear being robbed for having physical cash with you if anything.
1196  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Robbed of BTC at gunpoint -- a real concern? on: June 11, 2015, 02:43:55 PM
This is something I've been concerned about for a while now.  I just read about it happening for the first time recently.  If someone knows you have BTC, they can easily rob you of it at gunpoint.  I could see this happening a lot once the price goes nuts again.

If you meet up with a LBC member that has positive trust and meet him in a public place, how the hell is he going to try to rob you?
If you mean someone randomly assaulting you... how would they even know you have Bitcoin?
Just don't tell anyone you have Bitcoin so you aren't a target, is that simple.
1197  Economy / Economics / Re: Millennials trust Bitcoin more than Fiat! on: June 10, 2015, 04:33:11 PM
http://www.coindesk.com/nyse-chairman-millennials-trust-bitcoin-more-than-fiat/

No shit and can you blame them? Millennials have seen lives get destroyed and fear run through towns based on corruption that's happened using fiat. Why wouldn't they trust bitcoin?

The problem is that all the that's happened to cause fear in the economy - weak markets, mortgage-backed collateralized debt obligations, "clever" accounting with Enron, minimum wage struggles, student loan debt - could have been facilitated with ANY currency. I guess the one thing that's done with fiat that's not done with bitcoin is the government-driven creation of currency, which then devalues the currency OR the quantitative easing.

I hope some of the greed of speculation doesn't ruin bitcoin for us. I hope governments never have a hand in it's creation or value.

From the article:
Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) CEO and New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) chairman Jeffrey Sprecher has come out in support of bitcoin and the blockchain, voicing his belief that the technologies are part of a larger change in how trust is being established in society.

Speaking to CNBC's Bob Pisano on "Power Lunch", Sprecher opened up about NYSE's investment in bitcoin services provider Coinbase's recent $75m Series C funding round, one of the largest so far closed by an industry firm.

Sprecher suggested NYSE has been looking into bitcoin and the blockchain for "over a year", but noted the exchange has found the language of the industry difficult to navigate.

However, Sprecher said his interest had persisted due to the fact that millennials are becoming comfortable using the technology in the same way that they are becoming used to other platforms – such as ride-sharing app Uber – where the crowd, rather than a central authority, informs decision-making.

Sprecher told CNBC:

"We're seeing millennials trust a currency that is created in the ether, more than they trust fiat currency by government. I think that trend, whether it's a restaurant review or a taxicab or the way you exchange value, is something they believe in and we want to be on top of it because I think it's going to impact you and I."

"I think there's something to it," he said, alluding to bitcoin and the blockchain. "I think there's something here, that's why we invested in it."

thats how the future is heading, i believe the current generation and upcoming generation will want to be bound less by the shackles of governmaent and thier bureaucracy and will be accepting bitcoin in a more faster pace, this will be great for bitcpoin as it will increase the value of bitcoin, just waiting to see if Satoshi's vision of value will reach trillions of dollars for bitcoin. only hope it will happen within my lifespan Smiley

Bitcoin will be huge in advertisement based payments. I know a lot of those millenials making money off Youtube videos and they absolutely hate being tied to Google, which may or not kick them out of Adsense. And if you want to scape Adsense, you are again traped inside the rules of a Network. If they could get the money directly thought Bitcoin the shift would be huge.
1198  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Does anyone know what blockchain.info is doing ? on: June 10, 2015, 04:31:08 PM
What is supposed to be happening? I've been using it all day and it has worked fine.
1199  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic Devastation on: June 10, 2015, 04:22:47 PM
Im not saying fermented foods aren't great, I eat some kefir myself sometimes, but all those people that say "cancer is curable with X", X being MSM, vitamin C overdose, probiotics.. I think they are making claims way too big with little proof, and the proof presented is usually vague as hell.
I know a guy with MS and he was on steroids and stuff. What would you recommend? We can test it out, he's still young and the disease is not at a crucial stage yet.
1200  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Warren Buffet saids: “Stay Away From Bitcoin” on: June 10, 2015, 04:17:12 PM
Everyone has a right to his own opinion.
Everyone can say what they want to but whether you want to believe in it is up to you.
But nobody can predict anything with 100% accuracy. Even the best mind made wrong assumption or even decisions.

Exactly different individuals have different perceptions and different beliefs. You cannot get carried away by what Mr. Warren says It is totally individual decision whether to go with bitcoin or not. It is more important how an individual views bitcoin nothing depends on what other says.

But you have to take into account that for fiat people obsessed with dollars, the Warren's opinion is the same as people here hearing an opinion about something by Satoshi. They have these cultish personalities with tons of followers.
Like I said before, Warren just doesn't know what Bitcoin is and how to use it, so do their followers, but they'll listen to him and ignore what Bitcoin actually is.
