Got it running.  Grin
2282  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Conference 2011 NYC on: April 20, 2011, 06:01:14 AM

There are some shockingly amazing projects in the works --- a few of which I've been sworn to secrecy about ---  which plan to make major announcements, revelations, and demonstrations!     :-)

Exciting times we live in....

You and your exaggeration!
2283  Economy / Economics / Re: The value spike... c'mon, you all noticed it! on: April 20, 2011, 05:13:39 AM
Here's how I think about it:

Bitcoin price as bitcoin does. There is no use to amuse ourselves with trying to predict the price of bitcoin in the short term. It's random and noisy and it's very hard to gather the necessary information about the future.

Uncertainty is part of life. So don't try to connect events to reasons because very likely you are just wrong.

The perceived crappy analysis of bitcoin economics lead me to write this: http://bitcoinweekly.com/articles/generation-and-assimilation-of-bitcoin-knowledge

We need to distribute bitcoin knowledge to the wider public and I am willing to pay for such articles.  Cool

Anybody registered a domain yet?

I like how easy it is to read your articles without needing a tool like readability.

Sent 5.01 to 1NWc7N4FAs55hJ1xdTf3KWHZD89yn2PQKV  for an article.

Thanks for the donation. The Bitcoin Weekly now have enough bitcoin reserves to go for two articles.

All this debate about the merit of IP is a whole bunch of useless talk.

I make money and I don't need IP. End of debate.

Not new nor brilliant. Discussed months ago back in December.

I rescind my criticism. I need to reread the critic's article.

Everyone, I am still looking for writers!

If you're interested in history, cryptography, or economics...visit the Bitcoin Weekly's submission page for more information.

It's still 5 BTC per article.
2294  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [announce] Namecoin - a distributed naming system based on Bitcoin on: April 19, 2011, 05:43:26 AM
Great idea. How are you proposing you "pay" for a domain name?

If Namecoin has the exact same concept of Bitcoin inside its blocks, but completely separate from Bitcoin, and you need to spend those coins to create or update DNS entries, that will stop spammers. But how do you get "namecoins"?

Use bitcoin.
2295  Economy / Marketplace / Re: External commenting system for witcoin needs your pledges. on: April 19, 2011, 05:42:22 AM
5 BTC.
2296  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Forum Record Broken on: April 19, 2011, 04:50:22 AM
SMF 2.0 is going to be released pretty soon so I'm wondering if this forum will be upgraded. Also since this forum is pretty much critical to the bitcoin community (at least that's what I think) I wonder if there is some contingency plan in place in case it comes under attack/seizure by some government institution.

The forum is already backed up.
2297  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Weekly Comes Alive on: April 19, 2011, 04:21:55 AM
The Bitcoin Weekly archive now have statistics on how many articles there are in the database. We got 14 articles. That's a good amount to work with!
2298  Bitcoin / Project Development / A Modest Proposal: Who is Satoshi movie on: April 19, 2011, 02:57:53 AM
I suggest someone make a movie about who is satoshi with stick figure as art style.

It will be incorporating a number of memes:

1. Alpaca sock crypto-terrorist. That mean he also ride an Alpaca.

2. Satoshi is a time traveler from the future and he was created by multinational Asian megacorporation to save humanity from fiat currency.

3. Incorporate this poem:

Satoshi is everywhere and nowhere.
Satoshi could be all of us, or none of us.
Satoshi came from nowhere and dissappeared to nowhere, but his coins are everywhere.
Satoshi has no past, no future, and no present, but his creation is immortal.
Satoshi is an idea.  Satoshi has inspired all of us.  Satoshi is a legend.

My imagination is that as he face down feds bankers in a paintball shootout that will decide or not he get to release the bitcoin source code, the poem in #3 is spoken.

2300  Other / Off-topic / Re: A world with a karma points system... on: April 19, 2011, 01:07:04 AM
I forget where but somebody had proposed a system where society's currency was replaced with karma points. If you had a high amount of karma, people would be obliged to care for you and make sure you are sustained in society. The ones with low or negative karma may end up killed in a back alley and so forth.

I really thought about the circumstances of such a situation and I realized we already live in such a society today. The people who are capable of bringing the most value to society are often sought after for universities through scholarships and such, in addition to almost being guaranteed a job. Those who don't have very valuable skills and are hence aren't able to bring much value to other people are left searching and building themselves for opportunity or to be cared by the altruistic few that happen to gain value from them.

Is my conclusion correct?

Wrong. You appears to be useful or is useful to an institution. Whether or not that depend on your talent is an attribute that must be decided by an institution or organization.
