OK I have prepared an iso to make booting on gigabyte motherboards possible, see my post here:

Good work! Will test very soon!
2142  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / GPU in last PCI-e slot detection problem on: April 18, 2012, 07:42:41 PM
I have a problem with the last (farthest from the edge) PCie slot on my board. I see the BIOS welcome screen appearing then screen output switch to the nearest card on the side when the desktop is loaded.

I tried changing the card and changing the PCI-e extender but the same location always fail.

I have 5 GPU connected here is some more info:

EDIT:

My flash drive hosting Xubuntu was corrupted. I tried a BAMT fresh install on a new flash drive instead and all cards are mining now.

I'll do you one better; a loan and/or a hardware sale.

I'll sell you the PCI-e extenders (no molex, you don't need them unless you are going with dual GPU cards) on a loan if you can't pay up front.

I've got 2 16x to 16x extenders and 3 1x to 1x (work fine with 16x cards)

All 5 cables shipped to the USA for 7BTC today, or 8BTC in two weeks.

Received my cable today. Thank's for fast shipping you saved me a bunch of BTC! Cables are in perfect condition.
2144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Building cgminer on Xubuntu 11.04 on: April 18, 2012, 01:12:16 PM
Thank's I am still new to Linux but I always try to compile myself. In this case a simple "sudo apt-get install automake" was the solution!

It's more newb proof to run from binnary like you showed but it's less rewarding for a newb like me Cheesy
2145  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: New motherboard won't boot from USB on: April 18, 2012, 01:08:22 PM
I need a special tool to format the USB stick. I used this http://hp-usb-disk-storage-format-tool.en.softonic.com/ with Win98 DOS files available via Google. But it won't boot multiple partition USB image like BAMT. Xubuntu work fine.

This look like a good solution that I will try:

I have amazing result after figuring how to OC memory and GPU clock. I will wait all night to make sure it is stable and tomorow I may try overvolting.

My 5870 is now at 1400/1020 temp:65C and 5850 at 1125/775 temp:58C with stock voltage.

I have read that I can damage my card by overvolting. Is it like a lottery or if I get past the limit my card will burn?

I see. I don't have Bitcoind running because I'm using BlockChain.info and I don't see any option to sign a message. But I know how to sign a message with Bitcoind thank's!

I keep getting "Invalid signature! Try again.". I'm putting the same BTC address as my miner and it doesn't work.

I understand how to point my miner to P2Pool using my BTC address but how do I register my NMC address?

Thank you very much! Best miner I tried so far!

Setup on Xubuntu 11.04 was easy. Now I need to figure how to optimise my miner.
Xubuntu can be installed on usb stick?

 Sorry for off-topic.
... my sig Tongue
(which also happens to be included with cgminer ...)
If you want to boot Linux on a USB stick on my GigaByte board it won't work with standard method. The only way I found is to make a Win98 bootable USB stick via HP USB Disk Storage Utility ( http://hp-usb-disk-storage-format-tool.en.softonic.com/ with the DOS files included in some tutorial found with Google). Then you can use Unetbootin or StartupDiskCreator.

But I did follow your tutorial and it was very well written. Thank's!

Yes, if you already use Linux just burn it to your USB stick using StartupDiskCreator if you want persistence (needed for mining).

If you are using Windows then burn it to a CD/DVD or with Unetbootin (make it bootable but without persistence) on a USB stick. Boot Xubuntu with this CD/DVD/USB stick, then insert another stick to burn via StartupDiskCreator included with Xubuntu.

Ok now everything seem fine. I wonder if I should OC or optimise something else? If I want to switch to P2Pool, I only need to reduce intensivity by 1?

Fan speed= 85%
Intensivity= 9
AutoGPU= enabled
GPU0: 5850
GPU1: 5870

Should I leave my new toy alone now?

Yeah, Gigabyte boards don't like to boot from USB with BAMT on them.  It's a known problem.

Strangely the behavior of giga boards seems to vary from model to model and even bios version to bios version so you can get "lucky".  That being said it is one reason I steer clear of gigabyte (I liked them pre-Bitcoin).  I mean bootstrapping is one of those core BIOS functions.  If a BIOS can't handle all supported methods of booting it shouldn't be sold.   Period.
True but I can't really RMA the board since NCIX specify that I can only exchange it for the same model...

You're most welcome. Feel free to ask away here giving your hardware and software details as there are plenty of people who have can be very helpful on this forum who have likely used that combination.
Could not boot BAMT via USB with my motheboard Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3. I then tried LinuxCoin but CGminer with Xubuntu was the best solution for this particular motherboard.
