Another casualty of economic totalitarianism.

Quote from: email from team@backslash.io, Subject: Backslash - Backslash is shutting down
Dear thebutterzone,

Over the past year, we worked very hard to build the easiest way to send and receive Bitcoin. We learned a ton, received some amazing feedback, and had a lot of fun along the way. We’re very sad, but under the current circumstances, we have made the difficult decision to cease operations. Backslash will officially close its doors on September 14th.

As a non-funded, California-based, Bitcoin wallet service, we do not have the resources to comply with the ever-changing regulation. If we continued operating without investing a lot of time and money into our compliance program, we could quickly become an illegal operation.

As we wind things down, will do our best to make sure everyone can withdraw the entirety of their funds in a timely manner.

If you have any questions, or if you’d like to learn more about our decision, please reply to this email.

Paul Benigeri
Co-founder, Backslash
backslash.io

How to withdraw your funds:

Backslash will remain operational until September 14th. You will be able to withdraw your funds by sending a payment to an external Bitcoin address.

After September 14th, Backslash will be no longer be operational, but you will still be able to withdraw your funds. All users will still be able to login and specify a Bitcoin address to withdraw their funds.

If you need to create a new Bitcoin wallet, please refer to this website: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet
1764  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: August 31, 2015, 05:13:30 AM
If you select your account, there's an option to "Export" the account in xPub format. That's the same as sharing a public address. Anyone with an xPub key can import it as watch-only and see all your addresses and balances, but can't spend from it.

Hm, so could you now or in the future...
import your Mycelium xPub to Electrum, then use Mycelium to sign unsigned TXs generated by Electrum?
OR
import your Mycelium xPriv to Electrum, delete the xPriv out of Mycelium, leaving only the xPub, then use Electrum to sign unsigned TXs generated by Mycelium?

They offer 5 case sensitive or 6 non case sensitive ones for free

For "free" because they keep private keys instead of split-keying them.

1771  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NYC man robbed of bitcoins on: August 29, 2015, 06:18:39 PM
Regardless of almost anything you're trading, it should take place in a crowded place during daylight to minimize risk.

Umm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bystander_effect

The crowded space is not because they feel other people will step in to help you, it is more of a disincentive from someone trying to rob you as there will be more witnesses later who can describe the thief and corroborate the victims story to police. While it is true some purse/phone snatcher type may attempt this anyway, they rely more on speed and not standing around conversing with someone for any length of time.

Anyway, this type of exchange might be best to take place at the police station, bank or somewhere with lots of cameras (and people). In any event I don't think getting into a car in a dark ally with stranger is wise under any circumstances, Bitcoin related or otherwise.

Witnesses? Ha. Unless multiple witnesses are filming you and the perp in HD up close and/or they're armed (in the criminals' utopia of NYC, law-abiding civilians can't be, which is why this robbery was utterly predictable), all criminals safely assume they can get away with anything in public and if they're lucky, have someone else convicted in their stead.

Quote from: http://georgetownlawjournal.org/files/2015/06/Kozinski_Preface.pdf - Kozinski served as the Chief Judge for the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals
mistaken  eyewitness  testimony  was  a  factor  in  more  than  a  third  of  wrongful conviction cases

Almost all private CCTV cameras don't have sufficient resolution, focus, and zoom for facial recognition, and even if they did, would not guarantee a cop appears instantly to stop the crime, so criminals can safely give no fucks.

You may be safest in a police station, but even then, you might get arrested for "money laundering" or some other victimless, bullshit, non-actual "crime".

Edit: there's a free 0.1 BTC for the first person to discover why I was giggling like a schoolboy when I made that transaction.

Because the address sent to is 1LASS?

Nope, it's slightly ruder than that.

Well it must be something to do with this...

Code:
{"ver":1,"size":225,"inputs":[{"sequence":142620501,"prev_out":{"spent":true,"tx_index":68671943,"type":0,"addr":"1JDBngCAx8Vc4MXKo5Ye54rg4eEsgovfUT","value":8990000,"n":1,"script":"76a914bcc8228412c4780c304847487816226b55a4088a88ac"},"script":"4730440220273d23cb2bdc6f6b4a9c9e112c06a6399cc8ba7ffe5f32fda777e5b595482fed022016f4f0148d86b571b2d7ad29953c7d6de4c9d15706d1bbb4b017baf6aa0916bf0121022e9d2a251a345c77ce8ded0ceae6906bcdb83d15cf2ce4890600bbda105cb2d0"}],"double_spend":false,"time":1415337539,"block_height":328916,"tx_index":68673323,"vin_sz":1,"hash":"8b8486d428cd5aade180437b09ce95f65ca2e9f3e3b5ea69f6ca9c47f1bd249c","vout_sz":2,"relayed_by":"209.190.122.2","out":[{"spent":false,"tx_index":68673323,"type":0,"addr":"1LASSfaBQbSAxyA4feP82fLDDEUwNbC5S3","value":1000000,"n":0,"script":"76a914d2335f3362c0b82f624b6c32d3829831f8e5b4b388ac"},{"spent":false,"tx_index":68673323,"type":0,"addr":"1JDBngCAx8Vc4MXKo5Ye54rg4eEsgovfUT","value":7980000,"n":1,"script":"76a914bcc8228412c4780c304847487816226b55a4088a88ac"}]}

Might be because it is sent from 1JD.

Did anyone win the BTC0.1, dooglus? I see "SAxy" in there.

If I had the power to change one seemingly trivial thing about the human race, it would be eliminating useless body hair.

The hair we no longer need is being slowly evolved out.  There was a time when we needed it, and evolution doesn't happen instantly.

The hair on the head is pretty useless too.  Smiley
When evolution does take place, I hope all hair goes.

If you don't want to wear a hat or put sunblock on your scalp, scalp hair is naturally your hat. I like wearing hats, sunblock stinks, and I don't have enough time/money to keep my scalp smooth daily, so I want that to go with the rest of my hair. But I love crazy looking hair styles, colors, so anyone who wants scalp hair can keep it.

"Yet another crazy person" that couldn't have possibly been impeded by any past/present/future law short of one "legalizing" the genocide of all "crazy" persons. Only dead people aren't able to kill people.
