Well, I agree with your idea that prices are hurt by bad press. What I meant about those examples not be bitcoin problem is that they are not flaws in the fundamentals of bitcoin. Scammers, shady or unprofessional websites, market manipulation, those are problems with people, not bitcoin. If SHA-256 were broken, now that would be a flaw.

I'ts obvious that many here are new to investing in general. Real investing is 80% homework and 20% balls. You should have a plan with contingencies and the courage to follow through long term. Panic selling is not a plan it's an emotional response to a math problem. Many investors behave this way. Once you understand that those people can be manipulated into buying or selling you have become an investor. P.S. If you have a 401k or something like that, you are not an investor, you are a follower.

"BTC Crash Preparation Kit" lol. Maybe it could be ported to the EURO and used to prop up Italy and Spain?

never lost a bitcoin. My method is to never do business with a stranger. If I were to sell bitcoins to someone I do not know well they would have to incur the risk. I would do cash in person, Or I might send coins after I have received payment and moved that money to a safe place. Don't like those terms? Go find someone else.

We haven't had a good panic sell off in weeks. Please stay low till I get home from work.

I can help you with your transactions. I will specially overprice some bitcoins just for you. AND I will buy them back at under market value, thus enabling your unusual strategy.
|
|
|
Of course, if you buy BTC as a currency instead of a speculative vehicle none of this matters much. Instead of sell, sell, sell, try spending your bitcoin. It will help make a more robust economy and you may find some bargains right now priced in bitcoin.

Huh, I have been replacing all the Winxx OS on the computers at work. When I check back a few weeks later to ask how they like the new Ubuntu OS, the just say... "wha? I didn't notice anything".
Anyway on topic. No I don't think it will be so bad for BTC. The examples you mentioned are mostly not problems with bitcoin.

Mission accomplished. Presented the talk last night to an intrigued audience. Special thanks to "SK" and jostmey.

This could also be considered good news. Originally they thought bitcoin and silk road were the same thing. The fact they are differentiating between them means they are coming along in their understanding.

Frankly, what you did was state that every Manager ever employeed by Citi was at fault. That's just ridiculous.
Unless you actually have experience with the gentlemen who have setup this exchange, you should provide some additional sources for your statements.
Your right, it is guilt by association and that is not fair. They may set up an awesome exchange and serve their customers well with better security and a knowledgeable staff. But I dont believe that having worked at Citi is any guarantee of that, as they have a history of being hacked and there financial stability has depended on my tax money.

They may be legit, but citi group turned out to have lousy managers who's practices were right on the legal line. If we couldn't trust them with dollars, why should we trust them with bitcoins? No thanks, I don't need or want a middleman.
You mean these particular managers, or the ones who replaced them? I should be more clear. I don't know what the role of these particular managers was at Citi. But I know that many of Citi's practices would have been illegal a generation ago. I can't imagine them not bringing what they learned about fees and tricks to their new venture.

I sent an email thanking Dwolla for providing a bridge for people to buy bitcoins. I can be cruel at times.

You could sell something for bitcoins.

What about just a USB stick with wallet on it? Maybe kept in your safe deposit box with a set of instructions.

I lament with you fellow peer. But if a boatload of children can destroy bitcoin it was never meant to be. Let them bla-bla-bla, it does not change the efficacy of bitcoin. It is still the best money around.
