421  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is bitcoin mining risk for begiiners? on: January 20, 2023, 12:44:40 AM
It's the customer's responsibility to learn about how mining works, not the hardware company's. Same thing applies with other sort of "professional" stuff like DSLR cameras, computer parts, woodwork thingys, etc.
Kind of, but usually these products that you mention come with user manuals, and in depth information. Including, safety guides if anything were to go wrong with the internals or even exposing it to the elements. A lot of this stuff is ignored because it's generally common sense, but I believe it's a law that they have to provide it.

Teaching them how to take great photos, or make the most out of their computers doesn't happen though. So, the mining equipment should come with a basic how to guide, and a safety sheet, but not exactly teach them in the ins, and outs of mining.

Get into the habit of verifying everything that you install. If it doesn't have the option of verifying with a signature, ask why. Any self respecting developer, especially when it comes to security oriented things will want to sign their releases for their own peace of mind.

This is why, I usually don't like advocating for users to install anything off of Software Center or anything equivalent in other operating systems. If installing from a command line, keys should still be imported, and verified.
423  Economy / Reputation / Re: My 10 000th post on: January 20, 2023, 12:35:41 AM
Though, I must admit that if I would through my post history, I would delete many of my posts, especially from my early days here. But probably many would do same things. It's something similar like going through your old photos on social media - maybe it was ok to upload it when you were young and stupid, but nobody wouldn't understand if you would upload such photo now.
You've likely changed as a person over the years you've been posted, and it's quite a common reaction to have to not like older posts since you don't identify with them anymore. There's no real shame, and I bet everyone here has something that they would've said differently looking back. Hell, even going a year back someone might think that it was stupid to say.

Also, times change, and with those times changing so does the general attitude. For example, we've got a lot more strict as time has gone on over the quality of posts. This wasn't something that was massively discussed years ago. Whereas, now it's almost the center of the discussion for much of the Meta discussions.

Congratulations by the way. Milestones should be celebrated if they're of an importance to you. No matter, what the outside world might think about that.
424  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If I had known on: January 20, 2023, 12:29:09 AM
I still feel like you're missing a lot of the features of Bitcoin which gives it a lot of promise. For example, removing the need for third parties, such as banks. That should probably be one of the major factors for everyone, and I believe was the main motivation for creating Bitcoin. The other one being; counterfeiting, i.e Bitcoin can't be faked, and every transaction is verified. As well as transactions can't be faked if they've been confirmed.

It's nice to see someone who's relatively new not focus on the price aspect, and how it swings from there to here. You're at least focusing on the more important aspects which drive those swings.
425  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ] The Unification Fight: FURY vs USYK on: January 20, 2023, 12:24:21 AM
Fury is not exactly young therefore if he achieves his goal of being unified champion (and becomes even wealthier in the process), he has got everything he ever wanted therefore changing career and retiring would not be such a bad thing if he can just make that step. I doubt he will fight Joshua because he already stated he will never fight him most probably because he could have him in December but ended up fighting Chisora when Joshua refused to get in the ring with Fury.

I think Fury should seriously think about retiring after the Usyk fight regardless of who wins or if he beats Usyk as expected he should make just one defence of his unified belts before retiring as undisputed heavyweight champion.
Who puts the most bums on the the seats? Fury, right? Even if you're a Usyk fan I'm sure you can admit that Fury has the most following. Now, whether or not he's the better fighter remains to be seen, but considering how popular Fury is I can see why he does get the majority of the share. Usyk doesn't seem like the person to squabble over money too much though, so I expect if both parties genuinely want this fight, there won't be any money issues.

I can't help, but hope Fury clears the division first by beating Joshua, and Usyk. If he loses, I can't see him stopping either. He's had problems with not being involved in boxing in the past, and that could play into his decision to retire. Which, unfortunately means he'll probably rack up a few losses in his career towards the end.
426  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: January 20, 2023, 12:20:22 AM
It's already becoming the worst season for me because I don't want City to retain the league and I despise seeing Arsenal or Manchester United win a trophy. What options do I now have? Hah
Personally, I'd much rather Arsenal out of the three. However, if you support another London based club I can see why you wouldn't want that. City probably is the next best option, but I'm really not a fan of them considering how they got where they are. Unfortunately, Liverpool could be taken over by a similar process. Hopefully not.

Not sure if United will pull it off, I'd be more comfortable predicting a draw, which I do believe that's what I put in superbru. I've missed too many weeks to compete in the tournament now though, so I'm having a little bit of fun with my wild predictions.
427  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 20, 2023, 12:16:40 AM
I believe Fig was talking about moving up a division? If that's the case, he could vacate the title if he wins on the weekend anyhow. Moreno will probably take it again after that, not sure who that title fight would be against though. There's a few biting at the heels, but I don't see any major threats for Moreno.

I'll be posting my predictions tomorrow. I don't think I'll be changing much from my early leans. Big fight weekend though with a lot of competitive fights, but also some very important fights. We've got a few months of some great headliners too. Mostly, looking forward to seeing Jones in the heavyweight division though.
428  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: January 19, 2023, 10:21:50 PM
I actually think Man Utd could derail Arsenal this weekend, despite what I've said previously about Arsenal running away with it. United just seem to be the thorn in everyone's back this season, and they could pull an upset here. Arsenal also have a history of falling off the wagon a little after the Christmas period. I don't think that's going to happen, but I do think there will be unexpected results, and this game is on top of my list.

I'd still be somewhat confident in the prediction of Arsenal winning the league though.
429  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury - February 25 in Saudi Arabia on: January 19, 2023, 06:41:42 PM
I doubt Jake would fight him. It would probably be a bit of a step down for him right now. If he's going back to Youtube boxers then it will be KSI. KSI has stated he wants to fight him in 2023 but I'm not sure how feasible that is given KSI will need some more ring experience before Jake and will probably want at least two fights before that which they will struggle to get done this year.
Not sure KSI has the natural ability that Jake has, add onto that fact that Jake has been training a lot longer, and more dedicated than KSI with no signs of stopping. I personally don't see KSI ever being able to catch up, and get good enough to challenge Jake. If Jake takes that fight, it'll be a ego fight just to prove to his social media fans that he's better, which I think most other people who aren't a fan of either of these men, know.

KSI probably gets knocked out pretty soon after that bell rings, and I like KSI more than Jake. That's just how I see it, and I think most people see it. You only have to compare the calibre of fighters they've fought, but also the technique is completely different. KSI windmills, and leaves himself open. Jake, actually looks to counter punch, so stylistically, it suits Jake too.
430  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: I found a paper wallet on a beach ... seriously on: January 19, 2023, 06:37:24 PM
In most cases, it may be the fault of the person owing bitcoin to lose his coins by not being serious in storing his private keys. Yes, people know that they must use hardware wallets, personal wallets and paper wallets to secure their wealth, but no one emphasizes them that storing and securing your keys is the most important thing after owing the wallet.
I tend to not share the same view. I've found fiat filled wallets in the past, and have usually handed them into the organisation they've been left too or someone with a little more authority than myself. Same goes with private keys or seeds. If I found one, I wouldn't claim that money for myself, however there's definitely a concern on how to handle it due to the moral implications. I probably, wouldn't even check the balance, as that would have the same moral implications.

People make mistakes, and I'm certainly not expecting everyone to be a security expert. When I make a mistake in life, which is inevitable, I hope someone will be willing to help rather than to exploit that for personal gain.
431  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Forum moderation policy on: January 19, 2023, 06:30:40 PM
sir,  how can be use bitcoin talk app I'm new her can you suggest me
Not sure what you mean exactly, but I'm assuming you're talking about a application for Bitcointalk on your phone? That doesn't exist. There's no officially supported application for either Android or Apple that supports logging in or using Bitcointalk on your phone. If you've got one installed then this is unofficial, that's a potential security risk if you've entered your credentials into them.

If you're talking about how to use Bitcointalk in general, i.e through the web interface. It's based on Simple Machine Forum (SMF) software, which you can read their wiki. However, do note some things are custom here, which you can usually find in sticky threads or the above help page.

432  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to organise your Bitcoin wealth for a lifetime? on: January 19, 2023, 06:28:32 PM
Paper wallets can suffice, but it entirely depends on your threat model. If you're concerned about them getting damaged or destroyed via fire, water or anything that could potentially come in contact with them, a metal wallet tends to have higher security based on that. However, the major concern would probably be physical security such as theft. If it's safe from theft, then the other outcomes are relatively low.

However, this depends on your current arrangement, and whether you're storing them in a house that's prone to flooding or has old questionable electrics. Only you can really determine that, otherwise you risk compromising your security. If you're storing your paper wallets outside of your house, then look at the environment you're storing them in, and decide from there.
433  Economy / Speculation / Re: How was your belief formed? on: January 19, 2023, 06:24:11 PM
Quite a few of my friends and family used to do the same when I started investing in crypto when it was ~$200, the ones that have actually tracked it since then (or have a reddit account) no longer feel the same and normally try to change the subject when it gets  brought up...
This sounds extremely familiar. I actually hate when Bitcoin gets brought up, which is quite frequent at family, and friends gatherings since they know I've been involved in it for years. I've had people who I haven't talked to in years message me years later because they know I was invested in Bitcoin, and asked about it.

I tend to avoid all discussions about it, because whenever I've tried to help someone understand it seems by our next meeting they ask the same questions, and make the same infuriating statements. So, I've practically given up.
434  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury - February 25 in Saudi Arabia on: January 19, 2023, 06:19:16 PM
It needs to happen to stop people saying Jake hasn't fought a real boxer yet. However, I can't say I'm looking forward to the fight. I'll probably tune in if I remember to do so. Since, I've been vaguely following the career of Jake, just because it's a little different from most new fighters. However, I don't expect Fury to put up much of a fight, from what I've watched of him he's rather mediocre, nothing to write home about. Whereas, at least Jake looks hungry in his fights, despite at times not looking the best. Fury kind of just does boxing because of his name, well at least that's the impression he gives me.

You rarely see much passion from Tommy in the ring.
435  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 19, 2023, 06:16:41 PM
I am more pissed with Moreno vs Figueiredo fight. Fourth fight. Come on, give other guys a chance to become a champion. I would laugh it their fight ends with a draw and we are going to see a fifth fight.
I can definitely see your point. Although, they've been fun to watch every single time so I'm not too fussed about it, plus they've always been competitive against each other. While, I wouldn't like to see them go against each other again after this fight, I'm still looking forward to it. Also, from a betting perspective I don't know who to go with. My head says Fig, while my heart says Moreno. It's actually the one fight stopping me from posting up my predictions, since it's just so damn close.

436  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: January 19, 2023, 06:11:08 PM
Mid-table teams do occasionally struggle, but because all they do is move up and down the mid table without competing for any trophies, it can be difficult to notice. Right now, Leicester and Everton are struggling, but no one is paying attention to them because everyone is focused on Liverpool and Chelsea's recent performances.

In any case, when the big boys struggle, it gives the smaller teams a chance to compete for the league, as it did in 2015 when Leicester won the league. Right now, Arsenal is at the top of the league not because they are great, but rather because other teams are having difficulties due to injuries and other factors. Having more teams than what we currently have will make the league look unprofessional and boring.
Yeah, and I guess most of the league prefers the extra competitiveness the injuries brings. Although, Everton have been struggling I don't think that's because of injuries, but because of the personal they have at their disposable. They lost their best player last season, and they were always going to struggle.

As for Leicester I haven't really been paying attention to their injury record, but they've been rather awful for a while now. Could be due to injuries though. I just know their old faithful between the sticks was keeping them afloat in past seasons, and obviously the decline of Vardy was never going to help them.
437  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The biggest dramas (noise, FUD) of 2022 in Bitcoin on: January 18, 2023, 07:35:12 PM
I remember back in 2020, there was a short period of time when there was a brief but coordinated FUD campaign, that campaign on internet took emphasis on the alleged "double spend vulnerability" of Bitcoin.

It was just a constant stream of articles aimed towards people with little to no knowledge about Bitcoin. I assume the objective was to push possible investors and holders from doing their first Bitcoin purchase.
I've found that the news generally looks to generate as many clicks as possible, and when Bitcoin is struggling they'll jump on it. Whereas, when it's doing alright, they tend to do less coverage on this. I don't think this is an attack on Bitcoin, but simply based on what interests their viewers. Most of the world doesn't really want to read about Bitcoin, unless it's skyrocketing or crashing. There's no in between.

I don't think we'll ever change that. Human psychology in that sense is rather basic. He only pursue something that interests us, and drama is one of the biggest, hence all the dramas on TV.
438  Other / Meta / Re: Request: "Cybersecurity and Privacy" board + Poll on: January 18, 2023, 07:22:16 PM
Interestingly, if you skim through the hacker forums, there are always sections on cybersecurity and privacy. It turns out that this is useful for hackers; they have entire sections on how to protect themselves, and a forum that assumes knowledge of how to store your important data so that nothing is stolen from you is not interested in this.
I support your initiative, OP. You have almost begun to cover some useful aspects. It would be helpful to have proper guides from knowledgeable people who can help in a timely manner, rather than scouring the internet and trusting those who might be amateurs in the field of online security.
Even though, the vast majority of hackers aren't hackers in the traditional sense, but use programs coded by others, and their security sections are usually quite basic. Whereas, I think given enough effort by certain users here, we might get some real useful information related to security since Bitcoin sort of attracts those sorts of people.

If there was anywhere I'd like to read about security issues it would be stack exchange dedicated to security or Bitcointalk, because of the types of users that are here. I know for one I'd be typing up a few things about security, but I imagine there's some other highly respected users here willing to teach us a thing or two. Potentially, even discussing the specifics of security involving Bitcoin. Technically, we have sections for that now, and there's been a reasonable amount of discussion on it over the years, but I feel having a new section dedicated to it could actually motivate users further to talk about it. Hence, why I'm not against this when you look at the demand.
439  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyone living with older people? on: January 18, 2023, 07:18:36 PM
As the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink from it. Same goes for anything in life, you can't convince people to invest or learn something. You can guide them, but ultimately it's up to them if they want to listen to that guidance, and act upon it.

I also don't think this is a age issue, there's plenty of examples of people who don't understand Bitcoin, and that's not exactly their fault. Bitcoin isn't very accessible, since it's a new concept, and does take some research to understand, which not everyone will be willing to do.
440  Other / Meta / Re: Why the forum keep deleting my old posts? on: January 18, 2023, 07:11:13 PM
This is probably a common occurrence for most forum users. From my experience it's generally ongoing megathreads that get deleted to threads that were made years ago, and for whatever reason have only been discovered now, and break the rules.

If you are receiving PMs about the deleted posts then someone is reporting your posts and mod agree with it. Result is they are deleting the reported posts. If you are not receiving any PM but checking your posts are deleted then it's the topics you left responses. When a topic gets deleted it deletes your responses too but the difference is you do not receive any notification. Someone is reporting the topics here too.
Just to clarify things; I don't think it requires the post being reported to be send a notification to a user via their personal messages. It just matters if a moderator has directly clicked the delete button on one of your posts, as opposed to removing a thread, where you wouldn't get a notification.
