601  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Generated wallet on a computer that I need to return. on: December 02, 2022, 11:40:11 PM
I see, that was my concern. I'm wondering if resetting to factory settings multiple times in a row would make a difference..? Either way, I can't risk it, so will not return the computer. Thank you for your response!
For future reference; resetting your computer to factory settings multiple times isn't going to do anything. Even, formatting your drive multiple times using the quick option isn't going to do it. The only way would be to write 0s to it. Using dd or something similar, i.e you need to do a full format, ideally with multiple checks. Ideally, you never give a computer to someone else that has the hard drive in that you've used. Obviously, if you're returning it that complicates that.

I'd boot up Linux on a live usb, and just format it with dd. You'll want to use /dev/zero, and /dev/random.
602  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Fury v Chisora 3 3rd of December on: December 02, 2022, 10:36:09 PM
If I was betting on this match, I would assume that Fury would win by the referee's decision.
Fury should be able to put Chisora away. The only thing I'm getting from the build up is this is sort of being treated like a exhibition fight. I know Fury said he's going to let his hands go, but you can never really go by what he says prior to the fight. He's been accused of giving Chisora a pay day who's towards the end of his career.

So, while Fury should be able to put him away, with relative ease he'll probably go easy on him, which putting a bet on it going the distance might be a decent bet. Obviously, with Fury winning on points. Got to be better than the odds of 1.03-1.05 that were being offered for a Fury victory.
603  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Securing Your Seed Phrase with Washers on: December 02, 2022, 10:27:22 PM
Here is one example of mostly used grades of stainless steel, so better check out what type is used in your washers:
https://www.mchoneind.com/stainless-steel-grades-chart
The only problem with this, unless you test it yourself you're taking the manufacturers word on what grade it is. Ideally, you'd buy a test batch, and run through your risks, and do actual physical tests on them. Even then, you can't guarantee their entire inventory is made with the same standard. So, there's always going to be a degree of risk.

I took a look at some of my washers I had handy, and there's no indication whatsoever what was used in the manufacturing process. So, I have no clue what grade they are. These are washers that are used on a industry that we all use though, and should be manufactured to a decent quality.
604  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 02, 2022, 08:08:43 PM
I side more towards Stephen Thompson because of his striking pedigree and expecting a great fight between the two.
I prefer Stephen, but I don't expect him to win here. He's very good against other strikers, and he might be able to get the decision, but Holland is very dangerous on the feet. It'll be interesting to see if Holland can close the gap, since fighters a little more aggressive than him have failed against Wonderboy.

I think that'll be the decider personally. If Holland close the gap, I'd expect a knock out. Otherwise, Wonderboy could cruise to a victory via decision. I'll have a look at the odds tonight, and see if they persuade me either way.
605  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Most suitable way to confirm transaction using cryptography? on: December 02, 2022, 06:25:50 PM
Using cryptography for confirmation of paid items is what I intend, as cryptography can be used to verify a legitimate payment & point out a fake one.

possible?
Depends. What do you mean by a fake payment? If you're talking about possible double spends, all you would need to do is check via your database, and the blockchain. Then you'd verify that the transaction has confirmations, and depending on your threat level decide how many confirmations are needed for it to be considered a valid payment.

All you'd need to do is tie the barcode scanner into your system, and then record the data to the database, and then use that data, and compare it to the blockchain. Unless, I'm misunderstanding what you mean?
606  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why We People Cannot Think Like Whales 🐋 🐳? on: December 02, 2022, 06:07:33 PM
Whales i.e those that have a large share of Bitcoin, will become less influential as time goes on. Bitcoin will become a little more diversified, as these whales sell, and that means there are less single entities holding a large share of Bitcoin. You want whales to sell right now, even if that causes panic selling. Since, you want every opportunity for that whale's share to get distributed among several users.

I keep saying this, but the price of today is irrelevant, and users need to stop getting so obsessed with it, if they're planning on using Bitcoin for a long time or always planning to use it. As for Whales being the culprits to some of the largest scams relating to Bitcoin, I mean probably. Although, that's only because these companies that have become successful have managed to amass a rather large share. It's not that every person who buys a large amount of Bitcoin is going to scam.
607  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 02, 2022, 05:56:32 PM
That's a very good point tokeweed. I was going along the similar line of thought that Wonderboy has become a little washed, but looking at the opponents, and actually thinking about their styles you're probably right. Although, at times he was definitely getting out struck in some of those fights.

Holland has the chance to make a statement here, and put a legend on his record. I don't know what others might think, but I consider Stephen a legend at this point. Probably one of the most unique fighting styles in the UFC, mainly due to his karate background. They're quite rare, and even when there are fighters with that sort of background they tend to ditch the karate stance.
608  Other / Meta / Re: What happen when two person report the same post on: December 02, 2022, 03:50:05 PM
by contacting a mod that I know is active in a certain board. These are those situations where you know you have a good report, it is handled as such but is marked as bad, which is of course a mistake that can happen to anyone.
Absolutely, I've marked reports wrongly a few times. I usually contact the user that reported it, and explain to them that I've been an idiot.

As it is an exclusively voluntary activity, we cannot actually be in a position to be disappointed, but perhaps encourage others to use the "report to moderator" button a little more. Everyone has the right to their opinion, but some prominent members of this community have marked this activity as a waste of time, which must have had an impact on other members.
I don't think that's the case, ultimately you're giving your time to report something for the better of the community, if we've messed up on our end or you don't agree with it I'd like to hear it. Even, when we can't reach an agreement, it's nice to know what users think about x report.

Yeah, I do think a few opinions of prominent users carry more weight than they probably realise themselves. However, I do understand their point of view. Although, we aren't perfect, and there certainly could be more of us in particular sections of the forum, and I do think some of the concerns they bring up are valid. Ultimately though, the decision comes down to theymos on when we need more moderators, and when a particular issue becomes a big enough issue to decide to correct.
609  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 02, 2022, 03:37:51 PM
Those who is an expert in betting, dont you happen to know if it is possible to place a bet only on a fight outcome ? I mean is it possible to bet that the fights end method will be a KO, but without selecting who is going to be a winner? I think Tai Tuivasa vs Sergey Pavlovich fight is going to end with a KO, I just dont know who is going to be more accurate or lucky that day. These two has total of 26 KOs in 30 fight  Shocked
Yeah, however it depends on your bookie. Only some offer this, mostly fiat one's I believe. You can also bet on method of victory as well as round which bumps up the modifier by quite a handsome amount. This also only tends to be certain events I believe.

The other alternative you've got is the fight not going the distance which is basically saying the same thing; there will be a finish you just don't know who.

^  That's the thing, if Holland took a striking heavy approach, I think Thompson will be a problem.  Holland will have a hard time closing the distance as Thompson is mostly light on his feet and could kick from different angles.  It could prolly end up something like point fighting for Thompson.  Dunno...  But yeah, the last couple of losses were from fighters who are really good at wrestling.  Then again it's also possible that Thompson is washed.

Edit:  As for the odds, Holland at 1.57, Thompson at 2.36.  Oh...  Not much value for Thompson.  Lol.  I thought I saw he was at 2.75 or something.  :/  My bad.
Wonderboy's distance management is one of the best in the game. Holland will need to be prepared to take a few to close the distance. I just think he gets it done. Don't get me wrong, I'll be absolutely over the moon if Wonderboy gets it done. I've been quite vocal in the past of Holland's performances, but he's won me back recently. Especially, with the Chimaev event. Yeah, he lost, but I saw some fight despite knowing he was going to get demolished which is what I wanted to see in the Brunson fight.
610  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Phase two(2) : Bitcoin Promotion and Adoption in my locality. on: December 02, 2022, 03:35:25 PM
People are lazy creatures and until the need arises, they will not use bitcoin as a means of payment. Why, if there are simple and familiar traditional ways. You can get out of your comfort zone and learn new things if there is a strong need. Start accepting only btc for payment and you will see how quickly the world will change.
Generally, users have to be annoyed at the current system to change, since it's quite well known that us humans don't particularly relish change in our lives. So, things like a bank interrupting your transaction or potentially being locked out of your account are things that force people to look at alternatives.

That's not a bad thing, there will be plenty of users getting annoyed at the traditional money system, and this is only accelerated by the recessions that we keep dipping into. Every time inflation pops its ugly head up, there will be people questioning why it continues to happen, and will soon come to the realization they're getting poorer despite holding the same amount of money.
611  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: December 02, 2022, 03:31:44 PM
I guess not many will be doing that , only that ones that have a kind of experience of the Forum and Users and whats going on will be edit there votes.
Looks like there are a few Users they just vote without knowing really the categories and what it means and possible they just copy and paste names with a little changing.

The best way in my opinion would be to copy, and paste the blank template without actually looking at anyone else's submissions. Then, come up with your picks. That way, you aren't getting influenced by other users votes, and you're actively thinking about who should go in each category. Then, for the final review process, go over the votes of others, and see if you've simply just forgotten about someone. If you have, you can compare your vote to their vote, and do some thinking on which one is more deserving.

That's probably the best way to go about it without being influenced, and bias too much. Since, I think what a lot of users do is if they can't think of someone themselves for a certain category they'll just copy the most popular choice.
612  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Phase two(2) : Bitcoin Promotion and Adoption in my locality. on: December 02, 2022, 03:05:10 PM
As I did for the previous,  I also did to him as well. I taught him how to set up a bitcoin wallet, the easiest to be precise so he could easily understand and do it himself, copy and send his wallet address to his customers for payment. As earlier mentioned above, I also told and showed him the difference between private keys, public keys  and transaction harsh so he could get acquainted to them all.
Out of curiosity, what wallet did you teach him to setup? Was it by their choice or did you sort of recommend a wallet? The reason I ask is; since in your phase one you've already taught them the basics, and the benefits of Bitcoin. Did you allow them to make a educated choice on what wallet to select? Also, be interested whether they selected a hot wallet or a completely offline wallet?

I'm definitely not criticising you there, with those questions. I'm just wondering, since I believe there's teaching, and there's teaching things correctly. You should be allowing them to use the information that you've fed them, without actually being too biased, and then allow them to use their own initiative. That way, you can sort of check whether they've truly understood what you've just been teaching them too.

It's one of the reasons I avoid teaching people about Bitcoin. I don't consider myself to the proficiency required to teach them about Bitcoin. I usually just point them to references, because I don't want to teach them wrong, which could potentially be dangerous.
613  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Fury v Chisora 3 3rd of December on: December 02, 2022, 02:59:53 PM
I have no idea they had already fought before, I only know Fury when he beats Wilder and his opponent now seemed like not a popular boxer. What happened to the rumored fight between Fury and Usyk?
What always happens; money gets in the way. That's pretty much what the whole discussion has been about around the event. Why, is this fight happening, and not another with a top heavyweight.

Fury gets criticised for his antics a lot, but he's pretty much fought everyone of his generation except Joshua. Usyk is somewhat new to the heavyweight division so you could argue he's not of his generation, but at the end of the day if Fury fought Usyk, and Joshua he'd be considered the greatest of his generation at the very least. There wouldn't be much of an argument for everything other than that.

I think Joshua loses against Wilder, and I think Usyk could potentially lose against him too. I think Fury demolishes both guys. However, that all depends on when, and if we get the fight. If we get the fight when Fury's out of his prime, then who knows what could happen.
614  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 02, 2022, 02:47:26 PM
As for Holland vs Thompson, at first glance I got Holland but the more I look into it, Holland should win but I think the line should be closer imho.  Thompson's last couple of matches were against really in wrestling but Holland,  ot so much.  If Holland is gonna go into a striking battle then he's playing into Thompson's strengths.
I've got Holland, and I'm a massive Wonderboy fan. In fact, he's probably in my top five fighters. I just love his style. However, Holland is brilliant in the stand up, and I can't see Wonderboy reverting to wrestling him. I see him getting clipped, and probably knocked out.

I'll be looking at the odds, and I'll either bet for that outcome or just not bet at all. I don't want to see Wonderboy get beat, but I'll feel a little better if I've earned something from it Cheesy.

If I am right then our latest addition was Welsh
I think it was mole0815 over in one of the local sections. I'm not sure of that, but I was appointed a few years ago now. I suspect there has been additions since then. Might be a few, not something I tend to keep track of though.

There's no mystery : no report, no payment. But it's not always about money (ok I agree, that helps) (I speak for myself).
Right. Many of us were reporting for years for free before being selected. I did the majority of my reporting over a two year period I believe, but I was reporting fairly early on. I'd still be willing to moderate for free if the forum ever decided that's what's best, obviously the payment we recieve is greatly appreciated.

Honestly, I am more interested in seeing what kind of meme or funny pictures of body transformation the internet is going to create this time. And really looking forward when Baddy will be fed up with extreme weight cutting and decides to hire a nutritionist. Cant when when he will grow up and understand that all that gaining and loosing weight will reflect badly on his health when he turns 40 or 50+. Dont know if he is really that crazy with junk food or this is his "thing". To me he looks like a prodigy, a talented kid, that fights world fast food mafia and wasting talent, or at least concentrating not on proper things.
He probably does have some outside advice, whether that's through a dedicated nutritionist or through his team. He isn't doing this by himself, and while it looks bad from the outside in terms of professionalism, they've obviously got it down to a T, since they've met the weight requirement every time.

It's somewhat the same with those that are walking about at 200+, but manage to weight cut to 155 etc. Alex Pereira recently looked absolutely huge against Izzy, and I imagine he's cutting a ton of weight, and probably a little bit dangerously too. Although, he's done that his whole career so knows what his limitations are.

It is easy to determine whether it is due to an active member or due to a decrease in the spam rate in the forum.
I remember there was a user who used an AI bot or something similar to identify plagiarism and because of him hundreds of accounts were banned.
So by reading the reporter username, you can get a general statistic.
That's only as good as the data you feed it. If you aren't feeding it all the data, it won't know identify everything, just as we can't pinpoint the exact cause. Although, as I said it's probably a combination of all the above I mentioned, as well as some metrics which aren't easy to measure. We can only work with public data, after all.

The spam has definitely decreased from peak 2017/2018 levels, that's for definite.

How is the payment then? In other words, I can create many accounts, spam with them, delete topics and reap profits or I can tighten the deletion criteria to get more payments.
theymos hasn't revealed the algorithm used, so it's not open to abuse. I imagine if a moderator was doing the above, they wouldn't be a moderator for long.
618  Other / Meta / Re: What happen when two person report the same post on: December 02, 2022, 11:52:14 AM
Is the reason why some have given up on mass reports that they don't want to waste time on something that they have no personal use for, or are people just tired and leave that work to someone else?
I don't know for sure, but the bumping changes in the Altcoin section resulted in less users being exposed to the spam. The spam still exists, it just isn't noticed as much. The reduced activity has, and will always result in less reports, since there's less things to report as you correctly pointed out.

The other thing; I've noticed some users getting a little disgruntled on getting bad reports or them staying unhandled. So, they've reduced their reporting activity, which is a shame. I do get why they would be frustrated by that, but it's not always that the report hasn't been seen it's just been chosen by those that have reviewed it that it was either bad or was better to stay unhandled.

Also, the merit system probably has reduced the amount of users, and also means that a lot of the spammers stay new users, and therefore get picked up by the patrollers. Since there's more patrollers than dedicated moderators usually.
619  Other / Meta / Re: Where can I post NFT bounty campaigns? on: December 02, 2022, 11:07:14 AM
but you need a campaign manager for it and then proceed further with it.
Just to be clear to the original poster, you don't require a campaign manager as per forum rules. However, it's advisable by the community to do so. Although, you can run it yourself if you wished. There's no official rule, stating you need a campaign manager to run it. Also, recommended when ever dealing with actual Bitcoin or Altcoins that aren't distributed by the owners, that they're escrowed, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

Thought it'd be important to clarify that to avoid any confusion.
620  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Fury v Chisora 3 3rd of December on: December 02, 2022, 10:46:09 AM
This isn't a fight anyone excited about boxing is looking forward to. I am sure the fight we all wanted to see was Fury vs Usyk, but something tells me both fighters don't want it. Fury was bad-mouthing Usyk who claims to be injured and that he has no time to prepare for the fight. Maybe it's true, maybe it isn't. Fury was also requesting too much money to come back from retirement to fight Usyk and it looks like no one was willing to offer him that paycheck. Deep down, I am not sure he is confident of beating the Ukrainian himself. So, he has to be satisfied with an easy fight instead.
The thing is if it's a sell out, which I imagine it will be or close too boxing will continue to follow this pattern. It's money, and from both promoters points of view, Chisora gets a shot that he probably shouldn't, and Fury gets a lot of money for minimal risk. It's basically milking the money of the fans, without too much risk for either fighters.

I won't be watching it, and I won't be betting on it. Fury or at least Fury's team is probably a major part of why the bigger fights haven't been made. I know he's made it seem the other way around, but at this point he's just looking for his retirement fund. At least, that's the impression I got.
