I rewatched the leech fight, because on the night I also thought it was his fight. However, watching it the second time has convinced that those judges must have not been watching the same fight. To not give him the second round is almost fascicle. I know there's a saying to not leave it to the judges since they don't get replays, and they see it from a different angle, but that's just ridiculous.

Also, some of may remember Elias Theodorou, he died two days ago from cancer. He was in his early thirties I believe, so a shocking loss to the MMA community. Seemed a real nice guy, and a good fighter too.
1002  Other / Meta / Re: Identifying the OP at a glance (SMF patch) on: September 13, 2022, 08:47:34 AM
I've mostly finished work on my next SMF patch (simple 2FA) and will post about it soon. I'm still polishing it up and thinking through all the implications and don't want to take advantage of theymos' good nature by bugging him until it's fully baked.
Yeah, the two factor authentication (2FA) is anything, but simple I would imagine. You'd need to think about ways of attack, and how to mitigate those. As well as potentially recovery. How are you going about the two factor authentication exactly? Via normal routes or a Bitcoin specific route with signing?

There's been some good suggestions, and related discussion over in the new forum software section about two factor authentication if you haven't already read it. I imagine theymos has considered it in the past, just hasn't had enough time to actually sit down, and cover all the angles.

It's what I'd support the most though. Some 2FA would probably solve a lot of our problems going forward, but also give a lot of users peace of mind, which is worth a lot.

And then we're also chasing Douglas Luiz from Villa ha? Wonder if we also finally get Bellingham (even though I promised not to think about him again) in January.
I wouldn't get your hopes up for a winter transfer for Bellingham. If he have any sort of chance with him, it'll be in the summer. However, I think that's also rather unlikely to happen. Depends if FSG want to unleash the war chest that they've been building over the years. Although, they did just spend a lot on Nunes, so that might've had an impact on who we can sign in the next window.

I do think we'll be looking to add a player in the winter transfer window, I just don't know if we'll find someone who fits the bill. Hopefully, by then we've sorted out our injury crisis, and are doing fairly well in the Champions League, since I do believe that the title might've slipped away from us by then, unless we change our form rather quickly.
1004  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Man who lost 7500 bitcoin in a landfill asks gov't he wants to dig it up on: September 12, 2022, 11:54:43 PM
Honestly, despite getting away with some of the pitfalls you'd have by having a actual human manned search inside a active site, I still don't think he'll get the permission required. The environmental experts would have a field day with the local council, and they'd likely find themselves in hot water. So, while he's doing the right thing in suggesting he would look to improve the local area by investing in it from the Bitcoin on the hard drive, there's just too many variables, as well as health, and safety.

My first thoughts when this started all those years ago, is he'll never get permission for a number of reasons, but one that really stuck out was the health, and safety violations. For example. it's an active site, and could potentially have unwanted sharp objects, which they'd never be able to give permission to someone to look through it, knowing that there's a good chance that they could get seriously hurt.

So, going the robot route is a good idea, it reduces the risk of injury, and death, plus no one actually needs to be on site. However, there's still issues with disturbance of the debris, which would create a environmental hazard, at least that's what the local council have in mind.

Plus, this is all hearsay remember. While, this man's case might be genuine, he can't prove that A) these funds exist B) They'll still be retrievable, and C) he can retrieve them without causing any disturbance or health hazards.

Plus, it really does open a can of worms if the council did open it up for him to search, since all sorts of people could claim to have lost something. Unfortunately, he's probably never going to obtain that hard drive legally.

There was an update to this story a month or so ago where the person who lost the hard drive must already be infact rich.
That he has plans to have some sort of robots that are more like drones built so they can scan the garbage field in England for the missing drive.
That to me that is going to cost him as much as the coins are probably worth from where the markets stand right of now. Cheesy
I don't think he was rich, not overly so anyway. I guess that's whatever you deem rich is, he obviously had a decent job being a computer engineer. However, I would think he has made money from the publicity, I mean he has some fairly successful presenters doing a sort of documentary on him, and I'm assuming that wasn't done for free, since stories are sold all the time. Plus, the numerous other stories which have developed along the years. Pretty much everyone in Wales knows this story. Also, and don't quote me on this I believe there's been public fundraising done, as well as likely private investors which have gotten involved in the project. In one of the articles above he says the funding has been secured, therefore the people involved in the proposed project are all likely getting a share if it was ever found.

Just to correct you there too, Newport is in Wales, not England.
1005  Other / Meta / Re: Identifying the OP at a glance (SMF patch) on: September 12, 2022, 11:25:32 PM
Well, I don't see how that should be a problem. They will all get around it, one way or the other. After all, we still have veteran members here who don't understand what CFNP on campaign threads means; even when those letters hang there in capital letters.
There will likely still be questions from time to time, but I think having the explanation on hover is the best way to go about it, especially when it doesn't take practically any additional resources, and was simple to add. However, abbreviations in general are a pet peeve of mine, unless they've previously been explained. I do fall into that trap myself at times, but when you've got a wide audience, you should generally be clarifying what the abbreviation stands for.

Especially when it comes to the functionality of something. It's just good practice to do so.
1006  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: September 11, 2022, 10:36:46 AM
Holland gets paid so he doesn't care, he's that type of fighter. The Collier vs Barrett was probably the most entertaining fight outside the main event for me. Those boys went for it, and alright there was hardly any technique in those shots, but at least they went there to put on a show.

Nate pretty much outclassed Fergusson on the night. Although Fergusson definitely did have success with those lead leg kicks, which he should've done a bit more of. There was a time in the fight where Diaz's leg collapses underneath him, obviously in typical Diaz fashion he shrugged it off, but it was obvious that the leg was compromised. Not sure if Fergusson saw that or not.
1007  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: September 10, 2022, 08:19:58 AM
I guess the question now is who is going to win between Diaz and Ferguson?
I don't know, much better match up. Both have a good chance, and I think it's going to be an absolute war. I think I'd favour Diaz somewhat for the submissions, but both of these guys are incredibly durable, so who knows. Going the distance might be the bet to make, but I wouldn't even be confident on that due to both of these having good submissions, and obviously the volume that both put out means anyone could have their lights switched off at any moment.

Honestly, I think I'll avoid that fight on my bet slip just seems too close to call for me.
1008  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: September 09, 2022, 07:18:39 PM
Chimaev needs to be careful, if the rumours are true he's the one that caused the altercation behind the scenes, and then to miss weight, and just smile shaking it off isn't a good look. I'm not saying be a company man (although that has proven to be a good tactic for many fighters), but seriously show some respect.

Honestly, if you miss weight by that much it should be an automatic forfeit. So, not just cancelling the fight, but forfeiting it. Since the other person has put in the work, yet you missed by that amount. That's ridiculous. I'm not sure if he's underestimating this bout, or he just wants to make quick work of Diaz by knocking him out, and the added weight would help with that.

What's the odds on Chimaev gassing, and Diaz actually having a chance through volume? I'd love to see that honestly. Chimaev goes all out in the first round, fails to finish Diaz, and then Diaz just out points him or potentially even finishes him. It would be the ultimate finger from Diaz. People underestimating him saying he's going to get crushed, obviously him, and Dana not seeing eye to eye any more, and Chimaev being the fighter that Dana is putting the most stock into. It would almost be poetic if it played out like that.
1009  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: September 09, 2022, 03:30:36 PM
And your picks look good but I'm a bit surprised with the leans on Ferguson itt.  I mean sure he looks better physically with the match vs Li up a weight class at 170 but Li is decent.  I don't think this match up is the right one for Ferguson as his first fight at 170.  But that's just me.  Could be wrong.
It's a very slight lean. Enough for me to put it into my predictions though. It's whether or not Li can keep up with the pace of Ferguson, and whether Ferguson doesn't take too many shots...but that's usually not the case with him.

By the way this card is low key a banger. I think we'll see quite a wars this event. Ferguson one I'm hoping will be a war rather than a one sided beat down.
1010  Other / Meta / Re: Identifying the OP at a glance (SMF patch) on: September 09, 2022, 12:52:14 PM
My thinking behind the last two (name in italics, and name underlined) is that they are non-intrusive and language-neutral
Good point, hadn't even thought about that. Very good point. However, I still think a key would be needed, and that would be an issue with implementing for local sections, since not everyone here speaks English perfectly. I feel like implementing it would require some explanation, and having that somewhere on the page like a key system would be the best option. I don't know how you get around local section specific implementations then though.
1011  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: September 09, 2022, 12:41:41 PM
After football being cancelled this weekend, I'm just glad we've got some UFC. Here's my predictions for this weekend's event:

Khamzat Chimaev
Tony Ferguson
Daniel Rodriguez
Irene Aldana
Johnny Walker
Hakeem Dawodu
Jailton Almeida
Denis Tiuliulin
Chris Barnett
Norma Dumont
Heili Alateng
Melissa Martinez
Yohan Lainesse

Some close fights. Coin toss between some of them. My betting slip will probably look something like this:

Khamzat Chimaev
Hakeem Dawodu via decision
Irene Aldana via decision
Johnny Walker
Norma Dumont via decision
Melissa Martinez

That's offering 70.19 from my bookie. I'm feeling quite confident actually. Johnny Walker probably being my least confident pick out of them.

1012  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul VS Anderson Silva October 29th on: September 09, 2022, 11:42:29 AM
Many MMA fighters are already catching their breath upon reaching the third and final 3-minute round. You can't survive boxing with that fighting condition.
Yeah, many of them will underestimate the amount of rounds in boxing, plus the pacing is all different. I don't think Silva will find that a problem though, he's already been the distance with a decent fighter. So, he should know how to pace himself. In fact, you could argue that Jake hasn't had the experience on a fight night going the distance yet, and how's that going to effect him?

Although, Jake will probably be fine, I'm sure he's done the rounds in sparring. I'd probably put money on Jake to stop Silva since the value is there, and I know that Silva lives on the edge in terms of defense. I won't be since I'm away, but for anyone putting a bet on it might be worth considering.
1013  Other / Meta / Re: Identifying the OP at a glance (SMF patch) on: September 09, 2022, 11:35:24 AM
Yeah, this has been suggested a few times. However, I appreciate the pro activeness of getting it implemented. Anyway, I actually don't like any of the suggestions, and the reason being is nothing against you, but I bloody hate abbreviations without it being previously made clear what that abbreviation stands for. I might be on my own with that opinion, but it does annoy me, especially in technical discussions, which I understand this isn't.

I'd much rather thread starter, original topic starter or thread creator underneath their name or something, because I can guarantee it, not everyone will know what "OP" stands for. Anyone that has been using forum software for a long time, probably will, and sure they could ask if in doubt, but that increases the chances of them asking in that thread, and therefore going off topic or opening a new thread which will likely happen a few dozen times every year.

So, while I like the idea I think it needs to be clear what it means, but also not abbreviated. I do appreciate that the suggestions I've made are rather long winded, and therefore isn't as clean. Maybe, a key system could be implemented at the top of each thread, explaining what it means, and then have the abbreviation. Again though, likely to cause issues.

Same goes for the bolding or underlining, it's not self explanatory.
1014  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Netflix bans ads Bitcoin or Crypto, Human Rights Foundation Donates. on: September 09, 2022, 11:26:40 AM
In my opinion, they failed to adapt to the market, considering the number of streaming platforms that have appeared in the last few years and have become serious competition. I personally have several streaming services and I don't want to advertise any of them, but I will say that the one that currently has the LOTR series in its offer really has a much better offer of movies and series than Netflix.

As @TelolettOm nicely quoted, it's not that Netflix has something against Bitcoin, but they simply don't want to advertise such things through their platform, along with gambling and politics. A lot of scammers would take advantage of this, and users would then point the finger at Netflix because they lost money because of the advertisement that service showed them.

As for Bitcoin documentaries, I only watched one about QuadrigaCX (Trust No One) a few months ago, but I'm not sure it's still available - because Netflix often removes content after a while, although it might be related to different regions - so what is available in the US is not in the EU or vice versa.
They've also put prices up, and I know there was a lot of issues with account sharing which they said they'd crack down on. I was already away from Netflix at that point though. I got sick, and tired of watching a show, and then them removing it.

Yeah, I did understand that they don't want to advertise it, along with a few other things. However, I'd love to be a fly on the wall to actually know the reasons. I understand with politics, since that can cause controversies, but is Bitcoin that controversial? Scamming is an issue I suppose, but they'll advertise fiat based companies, which could potentially scam you. I mean big companies seem to get away with it all the time. I've seen how the big companies pretty much scam the smaller companies out of money, and it usually goes unpunished. This is especially true with limited companies in the UK.

I never watched whatever documentary was on Netflix since I didn't have it, but I'm pretty sure they had one on Netflix. I'm only interested since they've also banned political advertisements, I wouldn't expect they remove political movies/documentaries, but if they've removed that documentary about Bitcoin is that simply because it was part of their routine removal schedule or because they don't want anything Bitcoin on their platform. I'm just curious, I'm not trying to put the tin foil hat on.
1015  Other / Meta / Re: [Script] BitcoinTalk User Notes on: September 09, 2022, 11:12:23 AM
Thanks TryNinja for this. I really appreciate the User Notes section, where you can see all the user notes you've got. Plus, the export/import feature is pretty damn handy. Definitely, an improvement on my implementation which was a little half arsed.

I'm actually making the most of that feature, and it's aiding my moderation quite well. I know a lot of users complain about repeat offenders, so now I make personal notes, but also specify the reasons I've taken a certain action (usually major ones). For example, when nuking someone. That way, if anyone ever has an appeal, and I'm asked the question I might be able to remember rather than not.

Also, the import/export means when making so many entries it becomes a little hard to view, either because of view-ability or due to the fact that it slows down the more you add, I can just export it to libre office. I'll probably edit some of the code specific to this to make the workflow a little easier, however it works as is for the time being.

So, it's definitely made me a little more efficient, and hopefully that benefits the community. So, while I can see why this wouldn't be as useful or in demand for normal usage, this sort of niche area it works out pretty efficient.
1016  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 09, 2022, 11:01:26 AM
government told them they can go ahead with weekend football and but the FA have the final word in this and they decided it's better to postpone the whole thing. *sigh* weekend ruined
Yeah, like I understand the gesture, but why would you opt to be miserable, and completely focus on mourning. People usually want to occupy themselves when something like this happens. I'm not meaning to be disrespectful when I say this, but it might be a silver lining for Liverpool having the games cancelled, since we've been awful, and it gives us time to sort things out without the pressure of a game, and our injury list to hopefully shorten.

At least I still have the UFC to look forward too since that's an American organisation. However, I do believe all comedy, and all British sports have been cancelled. So, horse racing, golf, basically everything. So, a lot of people are going to be lost this weekend.
1017  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul VS Anderson Silva October 29th on: September 09, 2022, 10:57:54 AM
It's not a smooth transition most of the time, though. They're already old and it's really hard to make a transition when you've been trained and were fighting differently all your life. They're both combat sports but they're different disciplines. MMA strikers aren't boxers.
Smooth transition as in they've already got the skills, they just need to change their style a little bit. However, most MMA guys go onto fighting bigger names, and of course a elite boxer is going to have an advantage in the discipline they've trained for all their life, compared to someone who has learned multiple disciplines at once. I'd say if they picked smaller names, they'd have a lot more success.

Some MMA strikers are boxers. They come from boxing to MMA. That's quite clear in certain fighters. It's much easier to go from MMA to boxing, than it's the other way around. I think that's something most of us can agree on.

Like I said, Jake probably does it, and he might even knock Silva out since Silva isn't the best defensively. However, I think the key here is Jake hasn't really been threatened in his previous fights since they never really let go. Silva is going to let go, and put volume out there. So, we'll actually see Jake defending for once.
1018  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ] The Heavyweight Battle of Britain - FURY vs JOSHUA on: September 09, 2022, 10:54:06 AM
As for the fans, well if they see that their favorite boxers is losing, it's understandable that they too want to distant themselves from Joshua.
If Joshua is your favourite boxing, then now is when you need to support him the most. Since, he's kind of losing the plot a little bit. Just look at his rather emotional speech at the end of the Usyk fight. The thing is, Joshua has been protected from the media, and that's why I've called him the golden boy. They've tried to portray him as a certain type of personality, and it seems outside of boxing he just isn't the same personality. He'll tell you himself if given the chance he grew up in a rough neighbourhood, and he isn't this clean cut guy. He was going to prison before he picked up a boxing career. I imagine Eddie saw that, and thought he could create a boxer on redemption, and therefore that's why he has been shielded to some extent, and sort of convinced to put on this persona.

We've seen that his personality differs out in the public, and when he doesn't get his own way. He was dismissive of Ruiz last time out, and he was dismissive to Usyk both times. This time he kind of put amends to it, but that's probably from either Eddie or one of his team reminding him to be graceful in defeat.

Joshua needs support either from his fans or from his team to pick himself up, otherwise his career does look pretty bleak, and I do think he's better than the majority of the division, and needs to get back to his old fighting style, and forget this technical boxing act.
1019  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul VS Anderson Silva October 29th on: September 09, 2022, 10:30:25 AM
And what's up with these retirees entering another sport as professionals? They debut in their old age.

Jake is protecting his record while fighting against big old names to gain a big audience. Jake knows his business well.
Money. It's quite well known that the UFC doesn't pay very well. Other promotions do pay more I believe, but they just aren't as well recognised as the UFC. So, fighters tend to make their money in boxing before retirement. Plus, the sports are somewhat linked being combat sports, so it's a gentle transition to boxing most of the time. Especially, if they were primarily a striker in MMA.

Like don't get me wrong, I think Jake wins here especially since I know Anderson's style he definitely leaves openings which I think Jake is quick enough, and agile enough to take advantage of. However, I don't think it's an easy fight like everyone is saying it is.
1020  Other / Meta / Re: Not all reports post need attention on: September 09, 2022, 10:17:17 AM
So, while I wasn't the one that removed your posts, obviously. Moderators do tend to see that a lot of users are reporting in spite rather than because they've happened upon the post. However, that doesn't change the way we handle it. If the user that's the reporter is correct, and the poster is violating the guidelines, then it'll be removed all the same. However, we don't just assume that because a user has a grudge against a user, and has been right previously, that all their reports must be correct.

We review them on a case by case basis. There's plenty of reports that get made each month that are marked as bad, and quite a few of of them are from users just reporting a user simply because they disagree with what they've said.

If you're subject to this sort of behaviour from another user, simply change your posting habits for the better, so even if they do have a grudge against you, there's nothing that they can report because you've cleaned up your habits. Obviously, that's assuming someone does have a grudge against you, it's quite possible that someone just thinks your posts are low quality, and what reporters tend to do is investigate the user if they're found to be making multiple bad posts, and therefore report a few more of them.
