361  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: January 27, 2023, 11:10:18 AM
Yep, both Diaz and Jota should be back in training early in March - meaning that they will probably be ready to play a week or 2 after that.
VVD's return date is still unknown, it was a hamstring injury and initially it was said that it will take more than a month. He could be in full training in 2-3 weeks.

Other than that we have no other injuries - but these are in 2 critical positions and Diaz has been our best player this season. I hope he gets straight back to form, although that is not realistic to expect.
It'll help to have those players back, obviously. However, I think our problems are beyond just those injuries. We needed to solidify that midfield, because that's what's currently letting us down. You could say that the defense or at least pressure due to our pressing style starts at the forwards, but it's that midfield that is constantly being overrun. I've kind of written off this season, and even top four looks a little out of target at the moment. I'm hoping we can get a little more consistent, and at least finish top four this season after our dreadful start.

There's no reason we can't do that either. We have good enough players to achieve that, but we'd need to be pretty much perfect from now onward.

Media also talking about the weight loss, so the pictures I saw of him running must have been real. I actually think he'll benefit from it, and won't lose too much of his power. However, it's worth considering like I said before betting on Derrick.

I myself might only actually see the main event. Because I believe that is probably the only fight that at this moment gets me interested.
I'll watch the whole event, as I quite like just MMA, and aren't there to just watch the big names. However, I won't be personally supporting any of the fighters, especially since I won't be betting on it. Too many close calls as you say. I'll get some predictions out, but I'm not expecting good results from it. The last two events for me I've nearly nailed every single fight, but this isn't one of those events that I'd be confident in doing that.
363  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 26, 2023, 11:19:19 PM
Just looked at the full card for the 4th of Feb. Honestly, I'm not all that hyped about this event. We've got some well matched fights, but really other than Spivak, and Derrick we don't really have any big names competing on the day. Feel like this might be one of those events that doesn't look great on paper because of the lack of names, but actually turns out to be one of the better more competitive nights.

I'm just excited to see Jon Jones back in action, so I'll forgive them for their lack of big names on this event. I'll probably give this a miss in terms of betting though. I'll still get some predictions out.

Thanks for that. I think I didn't find this thread because it's even older than my account here, but after a first quick look there it seems to me anyway that the idea has already been discarded.  Tongue
Yeah, it was a long time ago when it was first brought up. There's been some discussion about it here, and there since then though. It could potentially be implemented in the future, who knows. theymos seems to have a todo list, that is established based on a priority based system. So, who knows. It'll probably require a lot of work though, and ideally it wouldn't be just theymos contributing to it. I don't know how many users would be interested in contributing either, at least to the standard it would need to be. Potentially, that's why the badges would be a good idea. Something like; "Course Instructor", but the courses would have to be reviewed before being made public, and therefore the badge also only granted when it's deemed good enough for public consumption.
365  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is getting ready for $25K, How? on: January 26, 2023, 10:29:15 PM
It is strange to see that all the negativity that was in the previous two weeks, which indicated that more people were waiting for the price to reach the levels of 10K, is now turning into positive and expectations to reach the levels of 40k,
I don't think that's very strange Tongue. Most users here ride the waves, and get a little bit too emotional. I can't blame them, I mean there was a time where I was obsessed with the price of Bitcoin, and now I rarely check it. I like speculation, and talking about why x happens, but more on the political side rather than looking at charts.

and the strange thing is that the individuals who were waiting to buy at 10 thousand dollars did not They want to buy at $16,000 levels, now they are ready to pay $25,000.
Very common behaviour. Users think they're missing out on the bottom once things start to improve, and try to cut their losses. Unfortunately, this sort of reaction is how users tend to lose money. Since, when it starts dropping they have the same sort of reaction.
366  Other / Meta / Re: BTC value at msg date on: January 26, 2023, 10:25:11 PM
I was thinking this myself. I don't think the forum would be able to handle something like that either - it has to do recounts every few weeks and those change numbers for older members quite a lot - I reckon there'll be a lot of errors with a system like that that just makes it too hard to edit (ie bitcoin is $0 on 1st January 2022 because the api broke).

APIs that do fiat conversions in wallets also get broken quite a bit too so I think that'd happen here - it's also a lot easier to get multiple reliable sources to find the value of bitcoin from a search engine (and they'll have native currencies too).
Basically, constantly fetching the values, and presenting that. It could even potentially slow down the responsiveness of the page if it's rather resource heavy. Depends on how it would be implemented. I haven't played around with too many APIs when it comes to fetch the values of Bitcoin. I suspect if there's as many problems as you suggest, it's likely coming from the source as well as how it's been implemented in the wallets. It just seems like a idea which would be useful for a very select few, and likely wouldn't offer too much to the vast majority of the forum. I can see maybe some usefulness to it, but personally I'd probably never use it.
367  Other / Meta / Re: This forum has resources to make significant changes on: January 26, 2023, 10:20:51 PM
But is that really necessary? All real Bitcoiners who are really interested in Bitcoin already meet in the right subboards like Discussion, Technical & Development, .. ? I'm just afraid that people will get lost and post stuff there just because of the badges.  Undecided
That would be comparable to the Gambling section, which mainly consists of spammers for the Bounty signatures.

Maybe my thought is too exaggerated but it would be nice if the quality of the posts in the above mentioned subboards does not suffer from the introduction of the batches.
Is it necessary? Probably not. However, we'd probably have a dedicated section for disucssion related to the courses, and would be subject to the same moderation as other sections. Maybe, not a dedicated moderator, but potentially users who have put the courses together maybe. I don't know, most of this is speculation on my behalf. There hasn't been much said about it for a while now, and not a whole lot of detail was included. It was simply an idea.

Badges would likely only be given for completing a course. So, it wouldn't rely on posting or anything like that. Therefore, it shouldn't create too much of a problem in terms of spam issues.

Have any comments been made about the implementation of this course?
You can read about it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4609442.0
368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin limitation (self challenge) on: January 26, 2023, 10:12:12 PM
Anything that's capable of running a computer for a decent amount of time is going to cost in excess of £1000. I know there's a lot of Chinese brands which have dived into the portable power storage solutions. However, can't really comment on their reliability or their safety. However, this seems a rather extreme measure just for Bitcoin. If it has a use for additional things other than Bitcoin, sure why not. Otherwise, operating offline seems to be the most cost effective solution to me, at least if you're only needing to receive, and not send often.

This is also good advice he can also buy an extra laptop battery for extended uptime hours.
Most laptops can't run for longer than 12 hours so it would probably get you to 24 hours on the lowest power settings. There are laptops which can do more. There's a Panasonic toughbook which claims to reach around 40 hours, but I've personally never been able to replicate their claims. However, I do tend to run more intensive operating systems than they test on.
369  Other / Meta / Re: This forum has resources to make significant changes on: January 26, 2023, 10:07:33 PM
If this could implemented, it would be a great addition to the forum.
Bitcoin knowledge is all over the place, but what I learn from this forum is better content than I find in most online courses and articles and it operates in a decentralized manner where each user has a voice and can use that.
What you can find on this forum is good, however it's anything, but structured. I was in support of the courses idea, and think if it's executed well, it would be brilliant. I've always said that Bitcoin's stumbling block really is its ease of use. Whether or not the forum is the best place for that is another thing. I imagine, it would need specific software for it, and would have to be hosted on a subdomain to keep it separate from the SMF installation. That's the only way I se that working.

Tying in with badges if they do get implemented would also encourage existing users, as well as new to complete the course.
370  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 26, 2023, 09:49:16 PM
Ah, tokeweed I didn't pick up on that. Is there seriously not an event this weekend. We've just had several weeks off for the Christmas period.

Welsh, Actually, you never know. Probably he might perform well in this movie, who knows?
But knowing his character, I honestly cannot say that he is going to be a good movie star.
However, we also know that UFC fighters have to be very punctual and sacrifice a lot of things for fighting.
Probably he will be able to do that for the movie as well.
I'm not saying he's going to be awful, and I didn't mean for it to come across as him not being very good. He could be, I don't know. I just wouldn't have thought he would've been interested in it, and I wouldn't have thought anyone would've approached him for a role. Simply, because he doesn't really look like the movie star type. He's very rugged, and all he's really talked about is fighting. Obviously, there will be fighting in the movie, but I still wouldn't have thought he would've been into acting.

371  Other / Meta / Re: Why we do not have an official YT/social media channel to counter mainstream? on: January 26, 2023, 05:12:20 PM
My question would be; are we responsible for the negative news out there about Bitcoin? Are we even capable of combating that, as mk4 suggests; we're a very small minority, and for those involved in Bitcoin they generally know when the news is talking crap. However, the one's that we'd actually want to make an impression on unfortunately will rely on their mainstream new's which are sometimes even funded by public funds or the government. We can't really compete against that no matter the budget.

If someone is sick enough of their current money system, they'll find an alternative. We just need to make sure the process of getting into Bitcoin isn't cumbersome enough to prevent them from progressing. Bitcoin is still quite complex to understand, whereas fiat you don't necessarily need to understand the whole system to use it. Bitcoin has, made some good steps over the years though to becoming a little more simple to use. Still, not quite there yet though. That's what I think we should be focusing on, instead of combating a losing battle.
372  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin limitation (self challenge) on: January 26, 2023, 05:06:59 PM
This is probably far from ideal, but you can already generate a Bitcoin wallet without electricity, however you probably need a way of verifying it or when you do have electricity you can download a wallet, verify it, and then create a seed. Get the addresses, write them down physically, and verify they're correct. Then you can provide that address to anyone whenever you want to receive Bitcoin, completely offline. Not ideal, I know. For learning Bitcoin, you could try, and get some books first of all. Understand the fundamentals, and proceed with the above method of receiving funds. Sending funds would be more difficult, and would require internet access.
373  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 26, 2023, 04:56:01 PM
What do you mean by how much weight he's lost?  I think the most weight he's lost is around 5 lbs.

https://www.tapology.com/fightcenter/fighters/14023-derrick-lewis-the-black-beast

So I don't think it's gonna affect the powerrr in his hands too much.  It would be another story if he decided to lose around more than 10 lbs which would something he'll never do.  Lol.
There's been a few pictures floating around of him jogging along the road, and he looks considerably thinner. Now, I don't know how accurate these photos are. We won't know until the weigh I suppose. Obviously, he's not going to end up losing like 100lbs, since he'd be in a different weight class Tongue. However, I think it's more than 5 pounds judging on the recent photos.

I know you can't rely on that information before your bet, but if he is considerably lighter come the weigh ins I'll definitely be taking that into consideration. Although, he had power to spare to be fair, and it might even help him keep up with the volume much more than usual. Since, he's usually very relaxed, and doesn't throw much until he can get that one big punch.
374  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ POLL ] The Unification Fight: FURY vs USYK sponsored by Utopia on: January 26, 2023, 04:41:26 PM
Fury does need the boxing ring for now but it is a mental battle. As soon as he realises he is not as dependant on the boxing ring as thought he would be able to walk away. He is in mid-30s now therefore even he knows he has not got more than maybe 3 fights left but more likely two.
It's pretty hard to figure out what he needs. However, he said once he accomplished his biggest goal, nothing meant much after that. Now, I think that's actually quite a common thing for people who achieve their life long goal. However, he did go down the extreme end of things, this is probably due to having a lot of money, and the ability to use that money for drugs etc. That's what probably threw him off the rails a little bit. I think he's doing a lot better these days, and seems to appreciate his wife even more so than he did, which is lovely to see.

However, there's no telling if he's going to struggle once he has to retire, and he'll probably need another goal from something he enjoys doing. Seriously, when something becomes your identity, and you kind of lose it, that's incredibly hard to recover from. I really hope he does find peace after he retires, and I'm hoping he retires undefeated. However, only Tyson can decide that, and as I've said before I feel like he'll probably run it into the ground, like most undefeated fighters. They fight a little too long unfortunately.
375  Other / Off-topic / Re: My Journey with Type-2 Diabetes on: January 26, 2023, 02:07:27 PM
Thanks for sharing your story, diabetes is a horrible disease which effects too many people. Unfortunately, even if you can control the disease to live a somewhat normal life it still effects so much. Mainly, healing from wounds so a lot of surgeries become a lot more complex than they normally would be.

I went to a homeopathic doctor last year for my skin problem, the doctor checked my skin and suggested some homeopathic medicine. I paid four dollars and came home with homeopathic medicine. But there are many hurdles in a homeopathic treatment, the doctor forbids me to eat vegetables, meat and various sour foods.I took three months of medicine and took the treatment as prescribed by the doctor. But surprisingly, after three months, my skin problem was completely resolved. Homeopathic medicine works very slowly, and allopathic medicine works much faster. So most of the people take allopathic treatment, not willing to take homeopathic treatment.
That doesn't mean that medicine worked at all. There could potentially be other things happening in the background, which you aren't aware of which resolved your skin condition. This happens all the time, even when there's traditional medicine involved. Getting your diet under control probably contributed to it a lot. Some users have mentioned it above, but your diet is actually critical to your health. In fact, the very thing that keeps you alive, is also killing you. Calories is what ages our cells, and therefore it's a catch 22. However, eating better food, and not an excessive amount of calories will generally give you a better outlook in terms of your health.
376  Other / Meta / Re: This forum has resources to make significant changes on: January 26, 2023, 02:01:49 PM
theymos has toyed with the idea of some sort of Bitcoin related course before, which would tie in with the forum potentially via badges if I remember correctly. Whether or not that's actually planned or was just theymos spitballing ideas, remains to be seen. Although, it would probably take a whole lot of effort to actually get that off the ground, and if you wanted a open source approach that would have to be managed fairly closely, and the right piece of software to get that off the ground.

It'd probably be a good idea, but ultimately it's up to theymos on whether that's something they want to implement themselves or get an external company to implement that. I can't imagine it would get implemented into SMF version of this forum though.
377  Other / Meta / Re: How can I prevent my account from being hacked as newbie on: January 26, 2023, 01:58:11 PM
Other than signing an address, and having it either publicly posted or personal messaged to a forum controlled account. Then, it's pretty simple; randomly generated password, which is backed up locally. Just like you would with a Bitcoin wallet. Then, a secure email; one that you owe is actually better than relying on a service that might not be around all the time, and having that email secured by another password which is entirely different from your forum password. Again, generated randomly, and backed up locally.

That will prevent most direct attacks, then it's just keeping your wits about you, and avoiding social engineering attacks. If the forum database got breached, the passwords would be hashed, and having a complex enough password would mean you're pretty safe right after learning that it's been breached, and you could just change the passwords to something else, which would effectively make that compromised database useless.

Honestly, you can't really go wrong much from there.
378  Other / Meta / Re: Why we do not have an official YT channel to counter mainstream? on: January 26, 2023, 01:54:28 PM
Ultimately, we're a discussion based forum. We aren't typically cut out for presenting. Now, that's no knock on Cyrus, and co because what they've done has been entertaining. However, that format doesn't exactly get views. Just look at Youtube, and the most popular videos the format is almost always the same. Unfortunately, Bitcoin probably isn't interesting enough to the vast majority, and therefore trying to come up with a format that works, as well as be entertaining enough is difficult. I'll reiterate, we're a discussion based forum so an official Youtube channel would likely have to be related to the forum, right? However, I can't think of a format that would be entertaining to those outside of the forum.

You'd get outliers being interested, but you could never generate viral content to achieve what you're suggesting. Cryptocurrencies are already peddled by other bigger unrelated Youtubers, and therefore that's the impression viewers get of cryptocurrency. We can't combat that as a forum, simply because we're a discussion forum. Now, certain individuals which basically gain a following via their personality, and not because of the forum could work. However, that's still nothing to do with the forum then.
379  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ POLL ] The Unification Fight: FURY vs USYK sponsored by Utopia on: January 26, 2023, 01:48:13 PM
The fighters also get 0% if they don't make the fight happen. So, there's equal incentive either way really. Promoters might only get 10-20%, but at the end of the day if they can push those numbers up their share gets bigger, therefore there's an incentive there for them to try, and get as much as they can.

Fighters just typically want to fight, and are already rolling in the money. I guess you could say the same for promoters though.

Yeah, it's probably one of the biggest issues in boxing today. Rather than try sort the fights out publicly and through the media they should probably just work them out in private and behind the scenes and then only announce them when the contracts are signed. For instance, if Fury wants to fight AJ he should have their respective promoters just get the contracts done now without any chat in the media and then once they're done and dusted then announce it. You don't even have to fight next or straight away just get the contracts done for a fight at the end of the year or something.
It makes me think that they're trying to build a mega fight, but that doesn't really make much sense since it's already one of the biggest events in boxing. I've wanted that fight for years, I don't care if Joshua has racked up some losses recently, I just want that fight to happen. Usyk, and Fury I'd like to see, but if I got to pick between the two it'd be Joshua. I know some think Usyk is technically better than Fury, but I don't really see that. Instead, I think Fury finds it easier than the Joshua fight. Assuming, that Joshua goes back to his old ways, and doesn't try to outbox Fury like he did with Usyk.

Ultimately, I just want the fights to happen. I feel boxing has lost a lot of support over the years simply because the fights that need to happen, don't actually happen.
380  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My step to promote bitcoin on: January 26, 2023, 01:09:44 PM
Wouldn't this be considered vandalism? I know some users might argue that it'll still work, but the legal issues that brings up is worth mentioning. Also, the fact that I immediately think about those trump stickers, and various other climate change organisations which caused uproar by leaving these types of stickers around, probably isn't a good thing. Since, my opinion of that type of advertising isn't great.

It'd probably be better to just purchase adverts which allow advertising this sort of stuff or sort of group funding billboards. That would probably be more effective, and less irritating for people. Especially, if you're defacing equipment that you don't have permission to do so.
