341  Other / Meta / Re: New bitcointalk rank? 🔥 on: January 28, 2023, 03:06:22 PM
I’m assuming that, overall, 2K Activity would be the target for the hypothetical next rank, following the current pattern. 3K Activity seems too restricted by any means to date for it to be a rank. Now whether the Merit parameter should be 2K or 4K (or else) would be a question of numbers, determining what figure seems reasonable from the get-go, and how many are in the pipeline towards that new Rank. The idea being the Rank to be aspirational, hard to obtain, yet reachable through persistence and presence on the forum.
Logical. However, if we are going to add another rank I would like to future proof it as much as possible. I don't want this forum to have a million different ranks, because they lose a little meaning then. That's assuming you value ranks in the first place, since ultimately they're just cosmetic for the most part. However, if we had a merit requirement of something ridiculous like 5k activity, and 5k merit I feel like that future proofs it, and means only the very dedicated users will ever reach that. 2k merits, and 2k activity I feel is a little too easy for the last rank of the forum.

3k Merits & 3k Activity (greater or equal on both accounts): 22 Accounts
You could've waited a little longer to do this metric Wink.
342  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can old people use bitcoin? on: January 28, 2023, 02:32:33 PM
There's plenty of the older generation using Bitcoin. I know, the stereotypes, and as with most stereotypes there's a element of truth to that. I know the transition will be difficult, but that's what humans do. We're actually extremely good at adapting, even though consciously, we don't like change. Call it evolution if you want, eventually if Bitcoin is successful in mainstream adoption, most people will have an incentive to learn, and therefore will learn.

Alright, as Charles-Tim says; it's not actually for everyone. Think of people who aren't very good at security, I personally don't recommend those people to be responsible for their own wealth. In fact, that's why I say that banks will, and probably should always exist. So, while it's already a security concern to allow a third party be in charge of your money, it can help certain people who have no concept of security whatsoever. Honestly, that's a quite large portion of the population too.
343  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: do not invest in crypto from loans. on: January 28, 2023, 02:29:02 PM
Should go without saying, usually loans are fixed terms, and even if you think you know the market you're likely to get caught out eventually. It's a terrible idea, really. In fact, you shouldn't be using anything, but your own money to invest in anything. These days, people rely way too much on money that isn't them, and it's the perfect business strategy for the banks.

I'd say stick with the Bitcoin concepts, and stop relying on banks. That's one of the very fundamentals of Bitcoin, so why would you rely on the banks that are giving you the loans to get into Bitcoin. I know the answer it's speculative investors looking to earn a quick buck rather than actually thinking Bitcoin is worth something, which again is missing the point. My belief of Bitcoin comes from its core principles, and that's why I believe ultimately it'll continue to rise in value.

^  Jon Jones' wrestling advantage should be enough to take on Gane, grind him against the cage and take him down eventually.  Dunno..  I just can't imagine a scenario that gives Gane the advantage.  And who knows, Jones could end up making it look easy.

As for Adesanya vs Pereira, yeah, I think Pereira gets the W again.  He's just way bigger and stronger than Adesanya.  And now knowing that he could stay in there and take Adesanya out when he tries to throw more volume makes me think that he's gonna try to throw more volume right off the bat and could give Adesanya more trouble.
That's my thoughts, depends on his fitness coming into it, but I imagine he'll be in top shape. Bit of cage rustiness, but I feel like wrestlers don't really suffer from that as much as predominately strikers would. I haven't actually watched much of Jon Jones live, his time was before I was really into MMA, so I've only caught highlights so I'm particularly excited about watching him live. Alright, I don't agree or condone what he has done outside the cage, but inside the cage he's truly brilliant.

Yeah, I think Pereira does. Whether it's just his kryptonite, Izzy just can't seem to do it. He dominated that fight right up until the end. So, I know Izzy is more than capable, and in fact at the end of the first or second round he actually rocked Alex pretty bad. If it wasn't the end of the round that could've been the end right there for Alex. Since, both of these fighters when in trouble stay standing, and don't actually dive for the legs. So, usually when they get rocked that's the end.

Edit:  Ah, it looks like Liverpool leads the race for Bellingham.  They could prolly get a deal done but they might not get him out of BVB until summer.  Dunno.
It would be the solution to our problems, but to be honest I'm not sure we can afford him. When it gets closer to the summer, Real Madrid, and the likes will put in some massive bids, with even bigger wages. Which, without breaking the wage structure we just can't compete with. Bellingham would absolutely want to be a Liverpool fan, and prioritise that over a better wage, which I don't think is the case.

We've got more problems than just the midfield it seems, but I feel Bellingham would be an absolutely massive statement. I can't see us willing to pay him the same as Salah though, which will ultimately be the reason he goes elsewhere. I think it's just rumours at the moment, I don't think anyone is leading the race. I think it's just simply the case of Liverpool being the most vocal.
346  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Still in a Consolidation Phase, Can the Market Be Predicted? on: January 28, 2023, 01:16:35 PM
The market will never be predictable, and never has been. At least, to a fine degree. Now, over the long term I'd be pretty confident in predicting that Bitcoin will continue to be adopted, and less Bitcoin will be injected into circulation, and therefore the price of Bitcoin will increase. However, that's a pretty vague prediction, but is the most accurate. When, users start getting into the nitty gritty, and trying to accurately determine price movements in the short term, often it's not based on anything, but correlation. Which, has proven to be a rather suspect metric to base predictions on.

So, in short no the market can't be accurately predicted, despite all these analysis' going on. Now, I'll admit they're fun to read, and to sort of come up with your own speculation. However, they often aren't that accurate. Although, having said that the long term outcome of Bitcoin I think is fairly predictable without making any price assumptions.
347  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Wallet on: January 28, 2023, 01:05:16 PM
My question is : How Satoshi planned the way you hold your bitcoin, while not being a dev or someone without technical capacity ?
You can think of an idea without knowing how to actually implement it, i.e not knowing how to code it. In fact, I'd say the vast majority of people here have good ideas when it comes to certain systems, the difference is Satoshi put that idea into practice, and actually pursued it. Even, if he wasn't the best programmer at the time of the idea, he learned, and implemented it. However, from my understanding he did have some sort of idea, and it's very much like any other programmer they have an idea, they break it down, and then they research as they go. Since, it's almost impossible to just go, and code something without researching certain aspects, since we don't know everything when it comes to projects.
348  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union 🏉 League 🏆 Super 6/7s Pro14, Cups & Tours | Olympics | Touch.... on: January 28, 2023, 12:55:38 PM
Scarlets I thought were brilliant against the Bulls yesterday, particularly the first half. Some very good attacking play, some questionable defensive efforts, but overall they did what they needed to do. For much of the second half they were pinned back, trying to survive. Then, suddenly they comeback in the dying minutes, and score one try, and almost another.

I will say though, the officiating was absolutely awful at times, and the odd thing is even though it was being played at the Parc of Scarlets I thought the refs were siding with the bulls a lot, and missing a lot of dangerous play by them.
349  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Power Slap League on: January 28, 2023, 12:53:13 PM
It depends on the audience and how much the league can bring the money into the betting industry.
It's fairly popular already, especially in European countries. Plus, it's probably as exciting as you're going to get. Most people complain about fights when they aren't doing much. Well, at least the slap leagues are full on action. Can't say I'm a fan mind you, and I wouldn't be interested in betting for the sole reason there's not a whole lot of skill involved. There's technique, no doubt. However, it could just be how the slap lands, whereas at least with traditional fighting sports you have to have the athleticism to land, this your opponent is standing still right in front of you.

Can't say I'm a fan, and I'm sure there will be a few problems with health, and safety concerns. Since, these guys are arguably taking bigger hits, more frequently than most other combat sports.
350  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 28, 2023, 12:50:03 PM
Jon Jones vs Ciryl Gane, and then Leon Edwards vs Kamaru Usman 2 in the same month? Absolutely brillaint month, and I know that they'll stack those cards up as much as possible. So, we'll likely see some very good co mains. Not sure, if they've already been confirmed or not. I saw that Izzy gets his chance at the title again, in like April? I think that's what I remember reading yesterday. Not sure if he's going to do it, he doesn't seem to be able to stay safe, despite dominating every fight he has with Alex.

We've got some big fights ahead of us lads. Can't wait for Jon Jones' return personally. See, what level he's at. He'll either be very rusty, and then that eight fight contract looks a little silly or he'll dominate the division for the entirety of those eight fights.
351  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: January 28, 2023, 12:45:32 PM
Thank god for the FA cup. I honestly, thought I forgot to put my predictions in once again today upon waking up. I've put them in now to make sure the same doesn't happen come Friday. A little gutting though, I was looking forward to catching up on some Premier League football, I totally forgot that it was the FA cup this weekend. That doesn't have the same sort of magic for me. If I supported some of the lower tier teams, I'm sure it would mean a whole lot more.

Well, on that note I just hope Liverpool don't put out too many of our first team against Brighton tomorrow, just so we can avoid some of the injuries that we've been plagued with.
352  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 27, 2023, 11:31:09 PM
Well, I'll probably catch some hockey, and some other non UFC mma this weekend considering it's not on. Can't say I'm too excited about next week either in terms of names. Should be some hard fought battles though, and as tokeweed suggests could be a lot of stand up battles.

Crazy footage online posted by Conor McGregor showing the aftermath of him being hit by a car while on a bike ride. Pretty scary. He seemed in good spirits and forgiving of the guy who hit him, who then gave him a ride and appeared on camera driving him. Athletes really shouldn’t be training outside on bikes like this because things like this can happen. As sad as it is to say, you can’t trust people to not do stupid things like hit a bicyclist when they aren’t paying attention. Luckily it seems no major harm was done and McGregor kept his cool.
Seems to have not sustained any serious injuries too, so it shouldn't effect his comeback, whenever that is. I haven't seen the video yet, but it's actually quite refreshing to hear he was nice after the incident. I know a lot of the fans are speculating that this is set up due to his recent allegations, but I'm not sure if that has any substance at all. Sometimes, people can be nice when bad things happen, and usually it's in times like this where it could've gone much worse.
353  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: January 27, 2023, 02:17:14 PM
I'm guessing you didn't know some of the players you mentioned before they arrived at Liverpool. Well, with the exception of Diaz, they were already stars and important members of their respective teams before Liverpool bought them. Salah failed at Chelsea, but he did well at Basel, Fiorentina, and was already a world class at Roma before moving to Liverpool, and Mane was already a wanted man after his impressive 1 season with Southampton, and Diaz and Jota have yet to make an impact due to injuries since they arrived, but calling Jota average when he was at Wolves is a joke because Jota was an outstanding player at Wolves and is yet to replicate that form at Liverpool. I agree that Liverpool thrust them into the spotlight as one of Europe's top clubs, rather than the other way around. Cool

Even Diaz, was a star before coming. At least, in the Portugal league. Jota was probably the player with the least profile due to playing for Wolves. However, anyone who watched him play can see he's a special player. We usually purchase proven players, but generally are having a hard time elsewhere. Jota, was struggling to get goals due to the overall quality of Wolves, Salah was struggling as you mentioned. The only players that were really proven were probably Alison, Keita, and VVD. Although, you can see where that got us with Keita.

Our recent signings have been a little different. Cody Gakpo isn't as proven as the bigger players we've got, but he's looked fairly decent. Nunes was proven in his league, but I guess similar to Diaz in that aspect.
354  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: controversial / possibly dangerous proposals for bitcoin on: January 27, 2023, 12:06:39 PM
Do they care about what others propose?
Should anyone care what they are doing even if it leads to centralization, if we can't actually stop them?
So bitcoin if centralized, #fork and dump the centralized chain.
Yeah, I think so. I think the community cares a great deal in which direction Bitcoin goes. If the community didn't care as much, I don't think we'd have as much discussion as we do here. However, the Bitcoin community is much larger than what we've got here, and there's constant discussions on how we can improve it. They might not be right, but you can see that people are motivated to improve Bitcoin.

On the flip side, that also means people don't want to see the wrong decisions made. Ultimately, when it comes to big changes, and therefore hard forks the people get to decide what they want to adopt, and what they don't.

Well, debate is the only way to go.... without it, we will fall into the same toxic situation where we have people with hidden agendas trying to do a power grab on Bitcoin development and implementation of harmful ideas. (BCash pushers)

I watched the whole fork battle ..back in the day.. and I saw the division it caused in the community, but that is unfortunately what the whole consensus idea is about. (Bitcoin BTC eventually came out on top.... and we stayed in good hands)  Wink
Division isn't always a bad thing. It means, that all alternatives are being considered. It's those with the strongest argument or merit to their idea that should succeed. It means, we haven't got just a handful of people making the decisions, but hundreds or thousands of people contributing to the future of development. I would rather have a debate when it comes to important changes, so that all angles are considered, than having a one way discussion where no one else proposes any other ideas.
355  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: January 27, 2023, 12:01:13 PM
So, now that we've seen a decent part of the season played. Was Ronaldo really the only problem at Man Utd? Or was it the introduction of Casemiro, and they would've been fine if Ronaldo stayed? Like, I thought Ronaldo was the problem for the longest time, but I didn't think they'd instantly get better when he left. The introduction of Casemiro is a huge one. His position that he plays, I think is one of the most important positions in football. So, I can see that having a huge impact on their play style, and also results. Still, wouldn't have thought they'd improve this much. It's almost night, and day.

City are the favorites in this match due to their nine-game winning streak in FA Cup home games and 13 wins in 16 head-to-heads against Arsenal under Guardiola, but Arsenal's current 6-game unbeaten run and Arteta's passion for the team make them a formidable opponent. The key players to watch will be Mahrez and Saka, with Saka looking to end his personal losing streak against City. Expect a high-scoring game, as ten of Arsenal's last 11 FA Cup fourth-round matches have resulted in more than 2.5 total goals.the odds of scoring both teams are 1.70 which I think is a good bet so I wouldn't miss the opportunity.
 Wink
I'm still sticking to my 1-1 prediction. It'll be cagey, both teams might not put their best teams out, but one thing is for sure both teams will want to win this. I know that sounds counter productive, but both teams have their eyes on bigger things this season. However, City have a good record in the FA cup so they could potentially just put the best side out possible, and Arsenal knowing that might do the same too.
356  Other / Off-topic / Re: My Journey with Type-2 Diabetes on: January 27, 2023, 11:56:03 AM
Most of the people of our country live below the poverty line, and have been living in a rural economy based environment. Most people in our rural environment cannot afford modern medical care. Allopathic treatment for a common disease in our country requires a minimum of $50-$100. On the other hand, homeopathic treatment costs between $3-$10.
This is where homeopathic doctors exploit the opportunity, moreover homeopathic treatment in our country is mainly based on symptoms and after giving medicine homeopathic doctor orders to follow certain rules. Basically, if these rules are followed in a healthy state, there is never a chance of getting sick.
Right, and I think the word "exploit" is probably the best word for it. They've realised that most of the population can't afford adequate medical care, and have convinced these poor people that their solutions, actually work. When, in reality most of the things they're prescribing aren't going to work. They probably know that too. You mention this type of treatment in more Western cultures, and you'll likely be accused of scamming if you're offering this sort of treatment.

However, not always. A lot of people are superstitious, and even renowned athletes tend to go for non science backed treatments all the time. Doesn't mean, if works mind. It just means people want to try everything, to get better or get an edge. Honestly, the placebo effect can also help, so if someone truly believes in it, for more minor illnesses the placebo effect could potentially work.
357  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My step to promote bitcoin on: January 27, 2023, 11:50:51 AM
For sure there are various ways to promote this technology but the problem is to how will your invitees be able to handle the risks involved in this industry. Itis easy to persuade and convince other people but imagining them blaming you for their losses is another thing. Many people in this industry for sure experienced a friend who felt bad from investing into this technology especially during market price downfall. Not them knowing that losses will only be permanent once they sold their assets. Problem is their impression towarda this industry wherein many people believe that profit will be easily earned from investing in cryptocurrencies.
That's a risk with anything you recommend in life. It's probably best to be clear that it is a risky industry, and just point them to certain resources which discuss the risk, but also the benefits. Let them make the decision, but just sort of get them interested. I don't want people to go out there, and sort of sell Bitcoin as the best thing ever. Despite, what they might think, Bitcoin definitely isn't for everyone, and I would say it's a little more risky than fiat, simply because it's a lot more complex, and different for people to understand. That's without research obviously, and a little bit of tinkering around with Bitcoin.

It's not overly complex, it's just people like things simple. The simpler things are, the less risk there is generally. Potentially, even offer to teach them a little bit about it rather than just encouraging them to find out themselves. I'd still tell them to do their own research though, and to verify everything that you've taught them.
358  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FTX drama stressing people for no reason | How to stay neutral on: January 27, 2023, 11:46:25 AM
If you don't leave your coins and don't lose money on them, then there's no reason for you to be upset about the demise of FTX. I've never used FTX so even if it crashes it doesn't affect me. Your portfolio loses value because you have invested too much in altcoins or you do not use idle money to invest. Crypto winter is bound to happen whether FTX crashes or not, you didn't prepare well for it.
There kind of is; It does effect all of us as it effects the consumers confidence in Bitcoin. If we keep having these headlines,  because people continue to use these sorts of services, and the headlines show that most of these exchanges seem to be run by people looking to exploit their customers, then it does effect us all.

We don't need these types of people running companies that operate with Bitcoin, and we definitely don't need these types of headlines every few years. It might not be obvious in the long term, because a lot of us forget about it, but it does stunt growth, and adoption for quite a while after. Would we have seen such dips in price if this didn't happen? It's hard to be absolutely sure, but I imagine there's a element of truth to that.
359  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Keeping a record of BTC transactions to optimise CGT liability. on: January 27, 2023, 11:42:46 AM
There is another possibility as well.  Suppose you move coins into a different wallet, does that count as a disposal? If it doesn't, then how much will you have to vary the wallet ownership for it to become a disposal? Perhaps you could exchange it for (say) Eth in one tax year, and exchange it back in the next year.
If it's a wallet that you own, no that's not a disposal. I'm not sure what you're asking exactly, but if you still own that Bitcoin, you have to declare it to the tax man if it needs to be declared. I don't know where you are, and what exactly you're talking about here, but income tax is usually required to be declared. Whatever you do with that money from there on wards is considered yours until you send it to someone else. If you send it to a different wallet that you own, then that's just moving your funds around instead of a disposed of.

Honestly, to prevent going wrong I'd just advise to talk to an accountant. I've had an accountant for years just for Bitcoin now. Usually, just give them the transactions of the wallet, and then any subsequent withdrawals. If you've purchased Bitcoin from an exchange, give them that. If you sell at a loss later, that'll be considered a loss, and won't be taxed.
360  Other / Meta / Re: Binance pays Google Ads with the word "bitcointalk" on: January 27, 2023, 11:34:38 AM
Like I said, I kind of expect companies to do this. It's probably a lower competition key word, and the forum still even today gets decent traffic. Not as much as "Bitcoin Reddit" I bet.

It might appear unethical to members here but it is not illegal. Their advertising team must have coordinated well with the legal team before deciding keywords.
I suppose, but the advertising industry hasn't got the best reputation for ethics. Especially, certain industries. Although, I don't think they're doing too much harm. They're just trying to generate more revenue, and Bitcointalk as a keyword will have less competition. Although, I'd have thought they've got enough money to compete on the more popular keywords too.

I haven't seen it on other devices.
So far I've only seen it on a device that I search for "bitcointalk" in anonymous browser mode, that is, it doesn't even keep browsing history. And what's also strange is that it only appears once. That is, when I repeat the search it does not appear again. Undecided
I haven't used Google's search engine in a very long time now, but don't they sort of cycle through a bunch of adverts, so even if you did refresh it might not be the same advert displayed? That's usually, how adverts work across the board, I just can't remember how Google does it. So, you could just get unlucky, and not see that advert for a while, but they're still paying for it.

Does it get replaced by another advert when it's not there?
