My Wallet was taking forever to download basically so I decided to download the torrent and it finished . I deleted all the files on C:\Users\Imad\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin\blocks , I guess it's the right thing to do when I downloaded the whole blockchain file , right ? Still not sure where I should put the Bootstrap.dat file I tried C:\Users\Imad\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin but still not working . It says "Importing blocks from disk" is it a good sign or what ?
Yes, it means the chain is made from the bootstrap you downloaded, just wait.

Technically speaking, I guess this makes me an early adopter. I was into bitcoins and even obtained some while the prices were still in the single digits. But with only 75,000 satoshis to show for it, I must be the poorest early adopter in the world. lol that sucks, i made mistakes not buying @ $50 myself. If the price keeps dropping we all going to be poor again. It depends if you count your wealth in USD or in Satoshis I for example am very happy with these lower prices. I'd never thought I got an extra chance to buy some (convert to new money system) at a discount!

Thanks @odolvlobo and @findftp, trust me it cleared a lot of stuff for me. I summarize my understanding based upon your answer : Blockchain.info (where I have an account) stores my encrypted wallet and that address has some coins associated (the one I purchased) so when I am hacked hackers can get access to this wallet and in turn my private keys. So to be safe I should probably use cold storage.
More or less, yeah. But it does not make sense to put your currency completely out of sight. A currency need to be spent. Large amounts you can better put in a safe (cold storage) Questions : But I read on this forum that one of the guys wallet was hacked but users were asking if he still has private keys (not known to hacker) how does that help, because if someone get access to my blockchain account then that means he got everything nope ?
Yes, once someone has the private keys they are able to spend the coins, that's the whole point of bitcoin. Bitcoin doesn't care about the rightfull owner, it only care about the one who knows the private key. If you keep the key secret, you must be the owner. Secondly, can I duplicate my wallet at multiple sites, meaning can I create multiple accounts at different wallet sites with "same coins" (if it make sense), because one of your answer made me believe that a unique address is associated to transaction so its not possible to associate same "coins" to multiple address.
It does not really make sense what you say (you should change the subject ) The private key does not "contain" coins, it points to an address at the blockchain were an amount of coins is stored. You can copy the private key thousand times, but they all point to the same public address which is stored at the blockchain (which every node has a copy of) Thirdly about this Because nobody else knows that address you were sending the coins to. Every address is very unique and rare. If there were no transactions made from that address in the past, nobody knows the address. The address becomes known to the rest of the world when there is a transaction made, then it's a part of the blockchain. ---------------- They know who you are by giving you a unique address. Every order gets a different address. They know you paid when the see the transaction sending bitcoins to that address.
so it means the receiver sends you address which they generate for your transaction and once they receive coins on it, they can discard it or may be transfer the coins to their main wallet, yeah ? Yes, that is true. They can also reuse the address only for you or generate a new address for every transaction. Addresses are free to create, so why not.

I still have few doubts so I thought to create this thread and get some answers from you guys. I bought few Bitcoins (well at wrong time on 3rd Jan ) and since then all I seen is how bitcoin goes down, but still I have trust in it. My questions are as follows : 1. I have a wallet at blockchain and I am not storing my private keys online as I printed them out. So does that mean if someone crack my wallet password he can take all my bicoins or he still need my private keys ? Because seriously I am not using my private keys, may be blockchain does when I send some bitcoins to other address, is that understanding true ? I don't understand. Do you have an account at blockchain.info? Or do you mean you have an address on the blockchain? 2. From Question 1 if it really is true then Blockchain does have my private key so if someone hacks my account he/she gets both then ? (key and coin).
Your wallet contains the private keys, no matter where you store the wallet. You can encrypt the wallet to protect them for others. 3. What are cold storage and/or what is secure way to store your coins then ?
Cold storage is a wallet which is not connected to the internet. For example a computer disconnected from the internet, or a paper wallet. 4. Online wallets are trust worthy ?
Not if you have to trust someone else to protect the private keys. Usually online wallets are a bit more vulrnable than offline wallets. Put only pocket change in online (hot) wallets. 5. A while ago I bought a VIP account of nzb indexer through bitcoin (my first purchase) but that site was waiting for me to transfer the requested bitcoin by giving their wallet address and starting a counter (10 min before that transaction will cancel automatically), but what I don't understand is how on earth that site knew that the coin it got is from me, it could have been anyone doing transaction on that moment. I was anonymous user and happens to be transferring bitcoin to that site. But how on earth they knew that I paid them.
Because nobody else knows that address you were sending the coins to. Every address is very unique and rare. If there were no transactions made from that address in the past, nobody knows the address. The address becomes known to the rest of the world when there is a transaction made, then it's a part of the blockchain. If I have anymore question that will come up during this discussion I will add them.
bring it on.

I recommend you to use btc-e and blockchaininfo these site are the best and easy to use,
BTC-e is not really a wallet. Also, exchanges are often not recommended to use as a wallet. For example, luckybit does not recommend betting from an exchange address.

I hope I am wrong but Russia and the USA are looking like they will go to war sometime soon. Almost seems inevitable.
many people believe including me that this will happen and it does seem inevitable. Yes, of course people will go to war sometimes. But when? That's the question. Could take another thousand years.

I'm using my 52" Sony Bravia with a 30' hdmi cable, wireless keyboard/mouse. I've also tried bringing the computer in the living room and using a 6' hdmi cable with no change. I've never had an issue with my dvd or satellite receiver using hdmi.
Sometimes when I go to a site with bright solid colors it will start blinking on and off right away, causing a need to reboot then it's fine. Before Mint went down it often seemed to start the moment I logged in - might have been all the bright green. Bittrex seems to get it going too sometimes. Any ideas of settings I should look at?
Have you tried another graphical card?

This is all wall street manipulation so impossible to predict day to day. Be careful trading on margin. It's a trap. Especially the Chinese 20x lure.
With all respect, but people who do not understand the game usually say it's rigged or manipulated. When people win, they say it's because they are smart and the rest is stupid.

If the world doesn't go to shit and you can still access a computer bitcoin will be fine.
True. It's either bitcoin or gold in the end. Now it's safe to bet on both of them

it's not about winning, it's all about not losing.
That's called hodl (not losing). If you want to win (increase coin count) you have to get them coins moving.

Around a week ago I started with experimenting on bitcoin trading. First few days most of my analysis were correct but recently I made a couple bad trades that have vaporised my profits. Admittedly I have to say that making a good trade really makes you feel pumped up.
I wonder how other traders started off when they first got into Bitcoin trading.
Where and how did you start trading? How did it go at first and what has been your learning curve? Got tips for new traders?
History doesn't repeat but rhyme instead. Look back and don't panic. Oh, and try to trade like a machine, get rid of fear and other emotions.

It will.
And it will happen this year, or in 2022 Damn, I must watch those back to the future movies again. Funny you should mention that. They are out on remastered blu ray and are awesome. I just downloaded all three of them. Gonna start this evening with part one.

There are several exchanges that work fast enough for these trades. The problem, however, is not speed, but trade-fees. Exchanges typically take 0.2% or more (there are cheaper options too) from each trade, so that's 0.4% to open and close a position, or roughly $0.80 on the $200 price in your examples. And that wipes out all your hypothetical profits.
Could you give me links to these exchanges? Thanks Just go to bitcoinwisdom.com and check the list of trading pairs. You will also have a good impression of the volume which is not unimportant

Safe enough for pocket change. Never trust a third party with loads of coins. Only use hot wallets for pocket change. Put the rest in cold storage.

I decided to turn one of my mining rigs into my main computer several months ago and have had a problem with the screen going black for an instant then coming right back ever since. Things I have tried: Used driver sweeper and re-run the driver I don't know, maybe half a dozen times? Tried another pcie port Tried another 7950 gpu Tried different browsers Tried lots of different memory and core clock settings
Nothing changes it. It will be fine for a couple days, then all of a sudden the screen will go black, come back, and it will repeat over and over until I reboot and it will be fine for a couple days again. Does anyone have any idea wtf is causing this? any ideas greatly appreciated.
What are your computer specs. Also, what is your operating system?

If we hit even $100 the buy pressure will be huge. I doubt we will ever go under $100 and if we do it will be to $0
Never to 0, I will buy all when its at 1. The problem is that you can't do basic math so I doubt you have millions of dollars laying around to buy them all. You would probably end up buying at 10 dollar as well and will be broke when the price hits 5

Basically the interface is online and the wallet is locally stored as far as I know. And I'm also not sure about the trust. There should be no trust necessary. The whole point about bitcoin is that you only have to trust yourself.

Just don't store it on an exchange. Don't want to get goxxed now do you.
It depends. If you use them as a store of value, you shouldn't keep them on an exchange. On the other side, bitstamp customers were not really goxxed in the end, so the market is getting better. If you want to use them for sporadic transactions or store of value blockchain.info is a pretty good choice since there are good security measures taken. (if we forget about the breach a few weeks ago) I haven't been keeping with the bitstamp coins. Was it recovered? As far as I know no customer was harmed in the attack. No customer lost coins. I'm not sure if the hack was legit. Could have been some manipulating as well, don't know.
