1081  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How much money are you losing? on: August 23, 2011, 02:10:53 PM
if you cannot tell the difference between loss and lower profit margin, then u shouldn't be mining.
A decrease in profit margin simply means u make less money, not losing money.

1083  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Estimating heat output - 5850 on: August 19, 2011, 10:13:42 PM
assuming the card uses 200W.
one hr of 200w will produce 682 BTU per hour

the 380W earth watts should be more than enough.
try putting it all back to default clock, restart, and mine again.

@catfish
Looks like u connected the PCI-E extender to another extender.
Didn't know u could do that. What is the MAX length for PCI-E cables?
1087  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Max Temp? on: August 19, 2011, 08:36:05 PM
Radeon gpus in general run hot..
You should worry if you break the 85~90C barrier.

I feel safe below 80. But some ppl do run their cards hotter.
yeah, i am part of that "some ppl".
Used to run my nVidia's at 100C+
1088  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Max Temp? on: August 19, 2011, 08:33:03 PM
cards will run just fine as long as it is under 105C.
Know that all modern cards have auto throttle when it gets to danger zone, which is about close to 100C
1089  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Sapphire 5830 BIOS fan profile mod on: August 19, 2011, 08:30:34 PM
My sapphire 5830 reaches 90C when overclocked.
The auto fan speed don't really speed up the fan until it reaches 85C.
The card would run at 90C and the fan speed is still sitting at less than 50%.

Is there a way to BIOS mod the fan profile? like telling it to kick up the fan to 80% when it reaches 80C?
I know you could use afterburner and set the custom fan speed profiles, but I would rather it be in the BIOS.
So when I can freely more the card to another system if needed to.
1090  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: what else can the mining rig do while its mining? on: August 19, 2011, 07:04:29 PM
I actually put mine to work on World Community Grid doing research on things like cancer. (we call it crunching)

In fact it is the reason I started mining...to help fund more crunching rigs and pay the electric

There are a bunch of us over at Xtremesystems (a computer forum) that have added cards to our rigs to do this.

come pay us a visit. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?207-World-Community-Grid-(WCG)

Need more rigs and stuff???

Those of you with an interest might want to have a go at winning stuff in another computer forum's BIG Giveaway

If you join to have a go then tell them Grumpy sent you....

Yes, some BOINC or F@H project would be a good way to contribute your computing power.
1091  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bank Of America lied about being FDIC insured on: August 16, 2011, 09:05:25 PM
FDIC insurance is an inside joke. When a bunch of banks go bankrupt they call the FDIC, who call the Federal Reserve and orders up the printing of more dollars out of nothing.

There is no FDIC fund. There is no need for one when they can create dollars out of thin air.

If the FDIC was backed by gold (like it should be) that could be considered (IMO) a legitimate insurance policy.

exactly.
Even I can insure all the banks in the world if all i can do is print more money when needed.

let me know when someone get their wallet stolen.  Cool

it's the best time for a trojan to snatch people's wallet because of greed.
THIS IS WHY I KEEP ALL OF MY 900 BITCOINS ON MTGOX
THEY EVEN SENT ME THIS DONGLE THING
MTGOX is the worst guys to trust.
Ur coin will be more secure on ur PC than on their website. Since they don't care shit about anyone's coin/money for that matter.

how to connect to btcguild for i0coin?
is it io.btcguild or i0.btcguild? Note that one is the letter o, the other is the number 0.
I tried the letter o last few hours, and it connect just fine, but now it cannot connect.
Then I tried to number 0, and it still won't connect.
Any ideas?

http://i0.btcguild.com/how_to_connect.php
I still can't connect.
Tried both io.btcguild.com and i0.btcguild.com

I guess they're not yet up. Try later in a couple of minutes when I0Coin "re-launches" Smiley
Tried killing the miner and starting again, still no luck.
It is already 12 min PAST the re-launch time.
