1181  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Anyone tried 6 cards on GD70? on: June 13, 2011, 04:43:39 PM
mind windows drivers limitations on GPU's # per PC :-/
I have found that the limitation is 8GPU per PC, but OpenCL is 4 per PC in windows.
So, you will hit the OpenCL limit before you hit the Windows limit.
1182  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: card is at 90f on: June 13, 2011, 04:34:17 PM
Are you mining in Antarctica? 90F at full load is just freaking awesome.
Or maybe you r using LN2 cooling.

Buy bitcions don't mine.  They are so cheap right now! $10 each!!!!!!
then please buy them all up, so price can increase again!

I did buy some @ $10.  Very happy I did as they are $23 now.
Great!
I was gonna buy some before going to bed that night, then I thought what the heck, and didn't buy any.
Oh well

Biostar A870 at Newegg for $65 has 4 pci-e slots, but you will need slot extenders
Thats exactly what I bought. I am having issues installing ubuntu on that board.
What about you?

i haven't had any mobo related issues.  i had some trouble getting ubuntu to install from usb stick onto my HDD.  it didn't want to overwrite the windows partition that was already on it.  so i just erased the whole disk and then installed ubuntu on it, and had no problems.  of course, you don't even need a HDD to run a mining rig, just a usb stick.

have you tried just running it with a usb stick?
i booted with the CD, and the mouse pointer sometimes seem visible and sometimes not.
The same mouse has been used to install Ubuntu on other systems, so it shouldn't be the mouse.
The screen also looks a little bit funky at the top.
I went ahead and proceed with the installation process using the keyboard, and tell it to install on a 4GB stick (I did the mod so it would install on it).
Then, the system just got stuck after it partitioned the USB stick.

Since then, I've used the same USB stick on another machine, and it installed just fine.
So, I don't really know whats wrong.
1185  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Mt. Gox drops to $10 -- reconsidering your mining rigs? on: June 12, 2011, 04:08:43 PM
I will mine as long as there is mining. Heck I used to fold all these 9 rigs 24/7 and never complained about it. Now that these rigs are generating money, Even 1$ per BTC I won't complain.

A % of something is better than a % of nothing.

That is what I think also. Every rig I build uses Core i7 so it can mine using the GPUs, and F@H on the CPU.
Gives me excuse to buy high end CPU for the F@H cause.

maybe there are some investors taking advantage of this.
I mean, it doesn't' take too much $ to run up or down the price at mtgox

gold is gold. bitcoin is bitcoin.
1189  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Mt. Gox drops to $10 -- reconsidering your mining rigs? on: June 12, 2011, 06:59:55 AM
nope cause they have paid themselves off and are making profit no matter what the rate is.
only if you have free electric and free time
1190  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC will be below $11 by Tuesday, probably be below $7 by Friday. on: June 12, 2011, 06:49:45 AM
down to $10 now. wow.
So those that bought the bitcoins to run up the price to $30+ is selling it back now for $10??
Usually you should buy low and sell high, not buy high sell low.
1191  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Advice on new GPU on: June 12, 2011, 06:38:28 AM
the best advice is to NOT get a new GPU
1192  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: TO NEW MINERS: trust your feelings... on: June 12, 2011, 06:29:52 AM
I'm still going to order an ATI Radeon HD5870 for mining, if the plan to win the money back in xx days/weeks/months fails I'll simply use it for BOINC or F@H or gaming basically.
If it does win the money back I think it would be fair to get another one, but I know my limits. Mining would probably cease to exist for most people if extreme elites competing amongst themselves were to come.
Thanks man, we need more people doing F@H and BOINC! not just BTC in their head 24/7.
I have been BOINC / F@H for maybe 5 yrs. Every piece of hardware I buy I would have them in mind.
For example, most people go with the cheapest CPU, I actually buy Core i7 CPUs, so I can contribute to F@H while making some $ in bitcoin.
You will feel terrible if you are only into bitcoin for profit, and failed. But you would feel really good when your Core i7 help to find the cure to some disease.

1194  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: If mining becomes inprofitable in the next few days, I can always count on... on: June 12, 2011, 06:10:23 AM
keep it for folding@home or find a BOINC project.
Don't be so greedy, just in for the profit, do some humanitarian work.
1195  Bitcoin / Mining / New miners with only profit in mind, you need to rethink before buying equipment on: June 12, 2011, 05:50:58 AM
So, MtGox price is now $10 per coin.
We all know a lot of wanna get rich quick kids got in these few weeks.
The market price got pushed way up to $30+, and now falls to $10. Who knows, it might be $5 by tomorrow.

My advice is, if computer is not your hobby don't do it. And if you have no use for your pc part other than mining, don't do it.
I have been running a few computers with 4x nVidia cards since the 8800GT days, and actually have use for them.
For bitcoin, I bought a few AMD cards, but I still have other uses for them if bitcoin do die and become unprofitable.

I don't really mine for profit, I kept most of my bitcoins.
If bitcoin completely fails, meaning no one would even do bitcoin to bitcoin trading, I still have uses for my machines.

If you are only in for a quick profit, you will probably look back after the bitcoin failure and realize you are really foolish.
Again, to new miners, don't invest a ton of money just hoping that bitcoin value will be high, as the market proves it, it sure can swing like crazy.

Just my $0.02
1196  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Mt. Gox drops to 20, reconsidering your mining rigs? on: June 12, 2011, 05:43:32 AM
This thread needs to get renamed -- not $20, but $12!

No, it is $10 now.
1197  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Ubuntu Natty Narwhal 11.04 Mining Guide / HOWTO on: June 12, 2011, 04:38:09 AM
is there any steps that I need to re-run if I add in another GPU?
Right now there are 4 GPUs, I want to add another GPU to it.
1198  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: All 5850, 5830, are out. What is your guess on the next best GPU? on: June 11, 2011, 11:56:59 PM
I got 5 Sapphire 5830 Extreme @ 103 CAD the other day.. Sad thing is that was the last of their stock. Ah well.
don't worry, both taiwan and china flooded with them, just order.
they need clean their stores and damn quick, because 6xx0 production scale also damn big and they need space/[more]money from them. so probably they will still sell 58xx and sell inexpensive.
You are wrong about both.
My friend in Taiwan have reported that they RMA'ed 5850 card, and received 6870 back, because there are no more 5850 left.
China is a different story. China still have them, but currently they sell for roughly $230+ per 5850. So, no one will buy it anyways.

those small stores get it from the popular stores.

The small stores buy their product from the larger stores?  I think you were doing it wrong.

In my experience, we buy from distributors that have warehouses of stuff.  We've never bought our products from Fry's and Best Buy..... because that would be really, really dumb.

Larger stores I mean the warehouses.
Almost all retailers get their stuff from the same list of wholesalers.
1200  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: TO NEW MINERS: trust your feelings... on: June 11, 2011, 12:26:43 AM
its true if you are in for the money and not the real bitcoin behind it.
and thank you for cancelling your order, your effort slows down the difficulty for everyone else.
