1361  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how do I keep my private key safe? on: March 05, 2023, 07:28:32 AM
Software wallets, such as Exodus or Electrum, can be more convenient to use but may not offer the same level of security as hardware wallets.
Electrum (if it is used as a cold wallet) can provide same security as a hardware wallet.
Exodus is a close-source wallet and there is no way to know how the keys are generated and whether the keys are stored on their server or not. You should avoid any close-source wallet.
1362  Other / Meta / Re: Change a topic into self-moderated retrospectively / add polls retrospectively on: March 04, 2023, 08:16:13 PM
It's not possible to make a topic self-moderated if you didn't select "self moderated" when creating the topic. That's how it should be and I don't agree with allowing users to do so.
The poster has the right to know if his/her post can be deleted by the topic starter when making the post.

Assume that I create a topic which isn't self moderated and you make a post. (You may not want to post in my thread if it's self-moderated). Then I make the topic self-moderated and delete your post.
1363  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many crypto wallets do you own? on: March 04, 2023, 07:10:56 PM
One advantage of having multiple online wallets is to protect privacy right? The average user doesn't have in mind that one wallet but multiple addresses are not proper protection of privacy if they cross spent UTXO consisting of several addresses within the wallet. I guess it depends on the user's needs or requirements.
Even if that's the purpose, there is no need to have numerous wallets. A few number of wallets should be enough.
There's a disadvantage too. In the case you have multiple wallets, you have to keep multiple keys and that's difficult if you want to keep each of the keys in a separate safe location.
As OP is referring to private key and not a seed phrase, maybe, he/she doesn't know that it's possible to use a HD wallet and have numerous addresses all generated from a seed phrase.
1364  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can anyone explain me about DT1? on: March 04, 2023, 06:17:04 PM
I understand from my own research that DT2 members are those who are on the trust list of DT1 members or have been given a positive feedback by dt1 members, correct me if I'm wrong.
You are wrong.
For being a DT2 member, you need to be in the trust list of a DT1 member and don't have more DT1 exclusions than DT1 inclusions.
Having a positive or negative feedback doesn't matter at all.

But who are the DT1 members? Who is on the trust list of theymos? But I see theymos is also a DT1! I would be very happy if someone could kindly explain it to me.

I think having a cold wallet that isn't connected to the internet plus numerous online wallets is a precaution everyone should take.
Why numerous online wallets? Isn't a single online wallet with small balance for daily use enough?

- If you forget one private key you won't lose all your crypto assets
Why should you forget your private key? Do you memorize your private keys?
You can generate a HD wallet and write down the seed phrase on a piece of paper. It's recommended to keep multiple copies of the seed phrase in different locations.
1366  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Changing a word of a seed. Will it break safety? on: March 04, 2023, 08:14:44 AM
The question is still unclear from me. Will it be less safe to change a word and the checksum of a randomly generated seed (by myself or by hardware wallet), or it won't make a difference?
You don't really change anything.
In the case you generate your seed phrase by yourself (if you do the steps correctly and assuming your dice is balanced and all the numbers have the same probability to be chosen), your seed phrase would be completely random and there's nothing to worry about.
1367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Changing a word of a seed. Will it break safety? on: March 03, 2023, 07:55:02 PM
I already have a seed of 24 words. From this one I would like to change one of the words using a dice or coin to make it random, and thus create a new seed, in doing so it will also change the 24th word checksum.
If your seed phrase has been generated randomly using a secure tool, there is no need to make any change.
If your seed phrase hasn't been generated randomly or it has been generated using an unsafe tool, you don't make it safe just with changing a word.

The idea would be to avoid trusting the hardware wallet seed.
What makes you not trust your hardware wallet? If your hardware wallet isn't secure enough for any reason, don't use it.

I could use the same method to generate different seeds just by changing one word and the checksum.
Instead of that, you can have different wallets using a single seed phrase with adding different passphrases to your seed phrase.
1368  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I want to convert my money to bitcoin because of our current banking system in m on: March 03, 2023, 03:50:01 PM
When you deposit money in a bank, it is held as collateral and you can withdraw it whenever you want without any loss. And after a certain period of time the bank gives you interest at a certain percentage rate but in case of Bitcoin your money will never be stable like the bank.
Take note that the fiat currency you hold in banks isn't stable in value.
The bank show you a number as your balance and increase that number as they give you some interest. But this doesn't mean the value of your balance increases. The government prints more money and decreases the real value of your balance.
1369  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Multisig Wallet 2 of 3 on: March 03, 2023, 01:00:11 PM
Generally speaking, for creating a m of n multi-signature wallet, n master public keys are required. For spending fund from the multi-signature wallet, m of seed phrases are also required.
Take note that master public keys can be derived from the seed phrases.

If you want to create a 2 of 3 multi-signature wallet with three seed phrases, no master public key is needed. Because all master public keys are derived from the seed phrases.
If you want to create a 2 of 3 multi-signature wallet with two seed phrases, you will need 1 master public key as well.
If you want to create a 2 of 3 multi-signature wallet with one seed phrase, you will need 2 master public keys as well. (For spending fund from this wallet, the transaction has to be signed by a cosigner as well)
1370  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I want to convert my money to bitcoin because of our current banking system in m on: March 03, 2023, 12:24:18 PM
The amount of bitcoin you have in your wallet will remain unchanged. 1 BTC will be always 1 BTC, but the value of your bitcoin in fiat currencies may change over time.
Take note that what you get as interest from the banks isn't really a profit if you consider the inflation rate.
1371  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you know which Bitcoin wallets provides complete anonymity & privacy? on: March 03, 2023, 10:23:03 AM
How it's possible a hardware wallet will provide a complete anonymity and privacy?
If you use your hardware wallet properly, you can protect your anonymity and privacy.
A solution is to connect your hardware wallet to electrum and run your own server and use TOR connection.
1372  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you know which Bitcoin wallets provides complete anonymity & privacy? on: March 03, 2023, 06:24:40 AM

High level of anonymity and privacy.
Is it true with Electrum wallet?
You can protect your privacy and anonymity, if you run your own server and use TOR connection.
With using TOR connection, you hide your IP address and with running your own server, you no longer have to connect to others server and there is no way for them to link your addresses with each other.
1373  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A question on transaction speed. on: March 03, 2023, 06:15:05 AM
Do they have to prepare those transaction information before they find a block and how they can broadcast it instantly to a block they find?
They simply make a transaction with zero fee and keep it until they find a block and include the transaction.

In a block, transactions include Coinbase transactions and non Coinbase transactions but how mining pool/ miner can include their transaction in a block they find, could you explain the process, please?
Miners are free to include any transaction they want and there is nothing prevent them from including their own transactions.

I guess you forgot to read the below generic statement before your quoted one. I also had Electrum in my mind and therefore I used this statement.
I read your topic completely and I disagree with the 2FA part. That's all.
You said: "Look for wallets that offer private key protection, two-factor authentication, and other security features to protect your privacy and keep your funds secure."

It's not a good idea to look for a wallet that offer two-factor authentication. As I already said, if you want to have 2FA, you have to rely on a third party and that's against the purpose of bitcoin.
1375  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you know which Bitcoin wallets provides complete anonymity & privacy? on: March 02, 2023, 03:19:31 PM
With using a wallet with 2FA feature, not only you don't increase your privacy, but you hurt your privacy.
By the way, clearing Google CAPTCHA also hampers your privacy which we do when we log in to the forum.TOR is available on all three wallets.
I think you didn't understand my point. You recommended using 2FA for increasing the security and privacy while that's not a good idea.
If you want to have 2FA, you have to go for a custodial wallet and due to obvious reasons that you know, we should avoid custodial wallets.
You can't have 2FA on Wasabi or Samourai at all. As I said in my previous post only electrum allow you to have 2FA. The 2FA feature is provided by a third party called trustedcoin and you have to pay additional fee for using their service.
1376  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you know which Bitcoin wallets provides complete anonymity & privacy? on: March 02, 2023, 02:57:16 PM
Look for wallets that offer private key protection, two-factor authentication, and other security features to protect your privacy and keep your funds secure.
With using a wallet with 2FA feature, not only you don't increase your privacy, but you hurt your privacy.
For having 2FA, you have to use a custodial wallet and give a third party full control over your fund. In this way, you lose both security and privacy.
(The only wallet that allow you to have 2FA while having full control over your fund is electrum. As the 2FA feature is provided by a third party called trustedcoin, you still have to sacrifice your privacy.)
1377  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A question on transaction speed. on: March 02, 2023, 02:16:54 PM
Moving bitcoins from one exchange to another is generally faster, but transferring between wallets can also be relatively quick if the transaction fee is high enough and the network is not congested.
As exchanges usually set the fee rate high enough, transactions made from exchanges are usually confirmed fast. But generally speaking, there is no difference between a transaction made from an exchange and a transaction made from a wallet. Also note that it doesn't matter where you send the fund to at all.
1378  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: weird request of a 2fa on: March 01, 2023, 06:50:05 PM
If the wallet is 2FA, it simply means that you (or someone who has access to your device) have created a 2FA wallet. It's not possible that a 2FA wallet has been created automatically or a standard wallet has turned into a 2FA wallet.
1379  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A question on transaction speed. on: March 01, 2023, 08:00:08 AM
They (same fee-rated transactions) won't be confirmed based on "first comes, first serves" in mempools.
Are you sure of that?
I am not sure, but I don't think all miners/mining pools use the same criteria for how to prioritize transactions having the same fee rate. I think every miner/mining pool should have their own criteria.
1380  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A question on transaction speed. on: March 01, 2023, 07:12:17 AM
Two transactions with same fee rate but with different transaction sizes will have different priority from miners.
You are completely wrong.
Miners prioritize transactions based on their fee rate (the fee paid for 1 virtual byte of data) and it's possible that a transaction paying lower absolute fee has higher priority than a transaction paying higher absolute fee.
