Here is the major flat-earth wrong thinking about this.

What if Adam and Eve had not sinned? There would be no death. After a time, there would be only standing room left on the earth.

Those billions of planets are out there. They were made by God as a place for people to expand to when earth became overflowing with people.

If Adam were still alive and 6,000 years old, think of all the "science" he could have found out by now. Such things as space flight to the stars on a practical basis would have been discovered long ago. Many other people would have been able to do similar in many ways.

All this has been lost to us because we live so few years that we don't have time to calculate much of anything. In addition, the entropy that has entered our universe due to sin, is causing us to be able to think less well all the time.

On top of that, we really don't know that God has not started His destruction of this universe a long time ago (again, because of sin). The only knowledge we have of the vast cosmological expanses is the light that reaches us from there. We don't know for a fact that a great destruction has NOT already entered our solar system. It would be propagated at the speed of light, and we wouldn't see it until it was right on us.

There is as much or more unclear thinking in the flat-earth model as there is in the standard globular model.

The key in this verse is to lean NOT on your own understanding. Your intellect has no power in the realm of the spirit. In fact it can not even reach there.

Now, do a little experiment. Wave your hand through the air. Then pound the ground with your fist. Which is firmer? It's the ground, isn't it? Yet it is the sky that is called the "firmament." From this simple thing you can see that the explanation of the Bible has to do with figurative language that almost formally states that the people didn't know the reality, by their own reckoning.

Now that we know the reality, wake up and smell the coffee.

I don't know why this wasn't taught to you guys but the very first discovery of earth being 'round' (they didn't know it was a spheroid before) was around 1500s or something, or let's just say 16th century, when Ferdinand Magellan set an expedition to find Guam from Spain, passing through the bay of Africa to South America to the Pacific Ocean. He died in the Philippines so Sebastian Elcano continued by travelling further west, and eventually arriving back to Spain and it was probably the very first trip around the earth.

No. The word firmament(Hebrew word is raqia) in Gen 1:6-8 clearly is solid. And the product of dividing waters was sky.

Other Old Testament passages are consistent with the raqia being solid (Ezekiel1:22; Job 37:18; Psalm 148:4);
According to Gen 1:20, the birds fly in front of the raqia (in the air), not in the raqia;
The noun raqia is derived form the verb that means to beat out or stamp out, as in hammering metal into thin plates (Exodus 39:3). This suggests that the noun form is likewise related to something solid;
Speaking of the sky as being stretched out like a canopy/tent (Isaiah 40:22) or that it will roll up like a scroll (34:4) are clearly similes and do not support the view that raqia in Genesis 1 is non-solid.

Plenty of "explorers" circumnavigated circle of the earth east-west. It can be done with no problem.
