How as an individual can I know if the Earth is a sphere or a flat disc? What experiment can I do that doesn't involve trusting information from a 3rd party that would prove what the geometry really is?

How is it possible that this conversation is still going on after all of this time!!  So, lets change this up; instead of proving that the world is flat, I want  you to prove to me that it is not round!  Make that case and we might have a conversation.

Ignoring the physical/natural laws of perspective, and ignoring the fact that a ships mast remains perfectly vertical as it goes past the horizon, a person who believes the Earth is a spinning ball says a ship disappears from the bottom up because the ship is falling over the curve. When asked why the horizon is perfectly flat that same person says you have to be really high to see the curve.

Do you think you could distinguish between a ship that is "perfectly vertical" and a ship that leans back at a fraction of a single degree of arc from a couple dozen miles away with the naked eye, or even with a telescope?  I doubt you could distinguish between the two even when you're standing right next to the thing.

First time it really hit me.
Why are there all this straight lines should they not bend around the globe to reach my toes standing on the beach.

With the sun that low on the horizon, it's probably almost already set.  Due to refraction, we see the tail end of the sunset after the sun has actually set.  Light travels in a straight line.  Any "bend" due to gravity is the light traveling in a straight line through bent space.  In your exaggerated drawing, the light is traveling in a straight line, even where it appears to curve (because the space there is curved).

Edit: In other words, during the last few minutes that the sun's rays are hitting your toes, the light *is* bending to them.  But, you're in the curved space along with the sun's rays, so they appear straight.  It's relative.  From an outsider's perspective, such as someone viewing your picture of Earth from afar, he would be outside the curved spatial area, so he could see the bend.

Edit 2: Oh, and after reading what I typed, I think a clarification is needed. Seeing the sunset like that is better explained by refraction than gravity, but gravity better explains what is going on in your picture.

Actually, if you want a good picture of the hebrew conception of the earth, look in a Jewish encyclopedia under "cosmography." You might also want to read the so-called "Ethiopic" Book of Enoch, written perhaps 150 B.C. While not canonical, it's paraphrased or quoted a couple of times in the New Testament, so it was highly regarded in those days. Its flat earth implications are even stronger.

We live our lives, do our thing, and don't realize that God sees and knows it all, far better than we know it, and from every angle (not angel ).

The reason God doesn't simply blast us for the wrong we do is, Jesus salvation covers everything in this life, even unbelievers in this life.

We like to be free. We don't like anybody telling us what we can do and can't do. And God likes us to be free. Part of the reason He set things up as He has, is so that we can be free. Part of the reason that He sent Jesus to uphold a universe that should have been destroyed because of evil, is so that we can remain free.

Will you go to Hell? That's up to you. God has already set your salvation in place for as long as you live in this life. If He hadn't, neither you nor I nor anyone else would even be here.

We like to be free. We don't like some King telling us what to do. But in the case of salvation, we need some King telling us what to do. The evidence is that we will not be able to keep ourselves alive when death gets serious about taking us. Jesus can and will keep us alive if we accept His kingship over us.

Let Him be the King. Freedom to die isn't freedom. Freedom to set Jesus as Lord and King in your life will keep you alive, even though for a time you will be dead bodily. Jesus will keep your soul alive, but only if you accept His Kingship.

If you decide to accept Him, He will help you do even that.

Our soul and spirit are far more deeply connected to the universe than we know. If we don't trust in Jesus and accept His help, we will go down with this universe when God destroys it... destroying it not because there is evil in it. Jesus already corrected the evil. Destruction because this universe is not appropriate for saved people. God is making a better one for us. The destruction of this one will simply be done so that God gets His "energy" back out of it to be used in the new and better universe.

Here is the major flat-earth wrong thinking about this.

What if Adam and Eve had not sinned? There would be no death. After a time, there would be only standing room left on the earth.

Those billions of planets are out there. They were made by God as a place for people to expand to when earth became overflowing with people.

If Adam were still alive and 6,000 years old, think of all the "science" he could have found out by now. Such things as space flight to the stars on a practical basis would have been discovered long ago. Many other people would have been able to do similar in many ways.

All this has been lost to us because we live so few years that we don't have time to calculate much of anything. In addition, the entropy that has entered our universe due to sin, is causing us to be able to think less well all the time.

On top of that, we really don't know that God has not started His destruction of this universe a long time ago (again, because of sin). The only knowledge we have of the vast cosmological expanses is the light that reaches us from there. We don't know for a fact that a great destruction has NOT already entered our solar system. It would be propagated at the speed of light, and we wouldn't see it until it was right on us.

There is as much or more unclear thinking in the flat-earth model as there is in the standard globular model.
