Yeah, yeah. Let's get your terminology straight.

Idiot = you. Idiot != me.
Down = unintentionally unavailable. Down != intentionally unavailable.
Closed = intentionally unavailable. Closed != unintentionally unavailable.
If an airplane is parked on the runway it's not "a downed airplane". If an airplane crashes on the runway it is not "a parked airplane".
Why is this so difficult for you?

A simple sentence: We brought our servers down for a scheduled maintenance.

Examples:

Steam: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7366-ETYS-5919

Learn to speak English first. Planes are grounded for maintenance, but also can be down for maintenance. Down isn't the same as downed.

MPOE-PR is an idiot.

At the risk of being railroaded for daring to criticise you have you never heard the phrase 'We took the service down for some hours'?

Jesus I can't have a decent flamewar, reasonable people have to intervene.

Fine, fine! Purely semantic argument is completely irrelevant and widely abused. Want a cookie?

*steams*

But I am subscribed to at least three SD threads here and heard nothing other than the fun and games that was had with re-routing the DDOS attack.

The forum is not the best way to actually follow BTC finance. It's more of a loungy sort of thing, we discuss colloidal title and allodial silver here, admire the bitbillions guy, find pirate's real parrot and such.

...

DDoS on MPEx web proxies by a very determined attacker. MPEx is always up, just go on IRC.

When MPOE at least thinks they are right, they respond. They may not be, but a response is given. When they are wrong, you are ignored. Take it as, they can't see how to appropriately respond to you.

They meaning not sure if it's a guy or a girl. Lots of people call it a she. Some a he. Don't give a rats ass enough about "it" to confirm it one way or the other. And the MPD could be a good reason too.

Let's stop talking about mpex and back to this dividend-paying asset..

clearly people are gambling less total BTC given the recent surge in prices, but are we expecting this to reach previous highs now that the price is (relatively) stable?

There is always that difference between havelock prices and bitfunder prices and mpex prices; just cuz of 0 arbitrage opportunities?  If so then it's even more likely that these rapid drops in price are just liquidity issues, and the effect of lessened BTC volume on the btc valuation, btc assets of this btc only company has yet to truely play out: we don't know where the true value atttttt

I don't think that's true.  The bet volume now is much the same as it has been for a long time if you disregard the huge volume bet by a single large player in December, January, and the first week of February.

Look at this 'violin plot' generated by organofcorti here:

And look at the gradient of the red line here.  It's pretty much the same now as it was for 3 months before the large player arrive at the start of December:

Here's why I think there's been a lack of S.DICE buying pressure:

 A) The general belief that SatoshiDice betting volume in BTC is inversely correlated with the BTC/USD exchange rate. New S.DICE bids became very rare indeed when the BTC/USD price started soaring over $20.

 B) Fear that SatoshiDice will be shut down by some authority and without any warning.

 C) A lack of news or updates is allowing fear to be the dominant factor guiding trading decisions.

The outlook is bright, however. There's strong evidence that betting volume has remained constant when whale action is factored out (many thanks to organofcorti and dooglus for this analysis). Evoorhees is presently working on removing any question about SatoshiDice's legal status, and in the meantime is laying low. When the legal issues are put to rest and evoorhees starts promoting the business again, I think we can expect a big swing in sentiment from negative to positive, and thus a higher and more stable share price.
