or miners may donate a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of their hash for community works, because tipping is one time thing.

I think the biggest thing in this entire thread is that we (as a community, I mean) need to find a way to repay people taking the time and putting in the effort to do useful things such as what dooglus does (but more generally too) without it being sponsored by the company itself (which has the problem of creating an affiliation). Any ideas?
[/quote]

Frankly, I don't think that there is a huge problem with affiliation, as long as we know it.  For instance, Dooglus revealing that he was in some way compensated for providing a service makes me think of him as an independent contractor.  He doesn't actually work directly for SatoshiDice, and his compensation/livelihood isn't tied directly to them, so given that he has been transparent, I have no reason to think that he is posting false information to make them look better than they are.

I mean, if we were really worried about his being influenced by the financial side of things, his approximately 10,000 shares would be far more of an issue.

We can certainly tip him, and others who provide services (preferably through something like the Reddit tipbot), but there is also nothing wrong with people being compensated by the companies that they benefit.

I.... don't think thats a very big issue at all in this community. Most memebers have an address you can send btc to..and if they don't I'm sure they'd be happy to provide you with one if you asked. Obviously you're wanting something that's a paralell to the reddit tipbot ...But that serves a useful service on reddit because it can be sent to any memeber without them needing to know about bitcoin. It's a great tipping / marketing tool. bitcointalk is not filled with people who don't know what bitcoin is.

I do agree with the comment that affiliation isn't a big problem... Anyone should be able to say what they like in this forum, regardless of thier personal interests...If they are acting malevolently by stirriring up FUD or just disinformation then that might just catch up to them and tarnish their reputations. (Not saying this with you in mind at all dooglus fyi, just a commentary) let people decern information from what is written by others themselves.

(sorry dooglus to have infered a possible deal with you and SD, it wasn't my aim to try prying information like that, it was that I thought you'd be the most deserving of money from them...Considering you're infinitely more active on their  securities posting while those owning and empoyed by SD are nowhere to be seen.

I just wanted to bring this back on target though, because it seems to have been lead on a slight tangent.

So what's the deal with airline food satoshi dice? It's been a good week with no official comment from any staff and still feels like it's being run into the ground. It's just appauling to see so much mismanagment such a potential filled prospect.

Anyone knows the avg time for the service to send the result back ?

For the site, the avg time for past 2 weeks for everything to load up for me, is about 1 min.

I hope the service is still fast(discounting the confirmation time), even though the site has been so annoyingly slow.

SatoshiDice partners their business with a foul outspoken racist: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=186041.0

Consider which bitcoin businesses you support carefully, I am advocating a complete boycott of ALL businesses that use and or support MPEx.

mem, You're an idiot. You an ciuciu should get together and have a little racist cp circle jerk.(Seriously, it's the ones who make the accusations that are the most guilty in most cases)

But, then - it may seem like Erik & company aren't really that smart, or great at business. Mircea is pretty good - but, hey...he picked a usagi deal too - can't be perfect can ya?

Actually - seems pretty clear that Erik doesn't really give a shit about this business he's cashed out of. But wtf...I cashed out of most of my shares too. I won't be likely to invest in any more vorhees ventures. Follow through is lacking, but acquiring cash from investors isn't.

Still - considerably better than most of the garbage stocks out there in bitcoin land. At least it makes money most of the time.

EDIt - just noticed the color of mem's ignore button is growing.

I was just going to ask, why is mem's ignore button highlighted?  Does that happen when a user has a lot of ignorers?

Mem, that article written by Mircea Popescu isn't what you think it is - you've completely missed the point.

This non-issue comes up every so often whenever a sensitive soul skims that article on Mircea's blog.

I wanted to ask, what is going on with satoshidice?

are they failing to pay dividends?

are people concerned about the site being slow?

are people concerned about the sudden absence of key personnel from the forums?

1. No
2. The bet return part, yes. It seems sometimes S.DICE's bet processing script is very slow (far beyond 1 confirmation times)
3. Yes.

It was not a matter of the website being slow, the domain name registeration expired and we still have not heard any response from Evoorhees. Could he at least pop into the thread and say "Hey, I noticed that, fixing it now"?

Seeing as he was able to comment in a different subject this morning I find that highly unlikely!

Next best option is that he made his money selling some shares, still receives his monthly dividend and other than that is not that much interested in SD anymore....

All of this is highly odd.

Given the profitability of this business, I'd expect the owner to be all over it, if not directly then via dedicated management who should be.

The way I look at this is that the owner of a company does not need to explain himself towards shareholders.

Shareholders vote with their money. You like the company and management, buy the shares, you don't like?, sell them.

Sure, you can ask Erik to do this and that, but I think that's not helpful for you nor him. Erik is intrinsically motivated or he is not. If he's a good leader he will follow his own preferences, not others.

My personal opinion on the website url expiring is, well a management mistake. Though, a small one, since it had barely any impact on amounts of bets placed.

If you set up things right, you can afford to manage it less later. I think that's what happening. And it's working. sdice continues to grow.

Part of this is the nature of the market infancy that we are in.  Despite the fact that "shares" have been sold, this is nothing like the major stock markets.  There is no accountability, nor recourse here, and we are basically all just private investors, this isn't really a publicly traded company in the traditional sense.

We signed up to pay EV directly, and in return we get some dividends from his business.  There is no board, we don't get votes, we don't even get an annual shareholders' meeting or detailed quarterly financial reports.  The SEC isn't checking to see where the revenue from these shares goes, and we don't know either.  EV could just be buying a ton of fur coats, I don't know.

Is he doing a bad job of dealing with "shareholders?" Unquestionably.  Is he doing a bad job of running his own company?  Probably.  Is there anything we can do about it?  Not really.

Anybody think maybe it was a test to see how well the business would survive a government ordered shutdown of the website?  Wink
