It's a moot point, anyway.  The reason I said what I said was to emphasize my confidence.  I thought this was obvious.  Really, I don't need to worry about some negative feedback along the lines, "User offers $1 million dollar bet without proof he has it.  Scammer!" do I?

I'm not going to say that this is not how agreements are made (that was your idea, after all), since even if you had a million dollars (which you obviously don't), you wouldn't give them in any case. In fact, your failure is more serious than that. You tried to emphasize your confidence where you actually should have questioned it...

The million dollar thing was a figure of speech.
We all have to realise we are all from different geographic locations (thousands of miles apart maybe) with different ways of saying things.

So when someone asks you to do something and says that he will pay you a tidy sum of money for doing that, this is not what he actually means or is going to pay?

Oh, well, I'm only curious whether all atheists are like that or it's just you

Just google "I bet a million dollars that..."

I haven't done this, but it's a common expression.

I'm curious whether you realize that I'm a theist. I have absolutely no idea why you think that matters, anyway.

You know, for a million dollars I can prove anything. And for another disprove what I proved earlier! But you don't have a million dollars, so it doesn't matter anyway...

Let it go.  If you really want, I'll throw down $100.  If you really want to lose $100, go for it.

The James Randi Fondation does offer 1 million dollars to anyone who can prove supernatural stuff, and they do have the million dollars to give:

How can I lose? I guess I can either win or not win. We aren't betting, are we? If I prove something, you pay, if I fail, you don't. As simple as that, right?

So long as I die before you, you can never lose.

...but really, why are you so fixated on this?  The deduction is correct.  If you want to make an actual bet and lose, go for it.

I will bet $100 with anyone that my imaginary friend is better than your imaginary friend. Hell, nations have gone to war for the same reason!

Respecting people's intolerant beliefs is about the worst thing one can do. That's what leads to discrimination, prejudice, etc.

What a person actually does with their beliefs is a different matter.

Yes that's true, I indirectly meant the result of their beliefs in action i.e discrimination, prejudice. Perfect example was Indiana's laws concerning business owners having the right to refuse customers because of their religious beliefs.

It was never really going to be a mature solid conversion was it. I mean OPs initial question was a fallacy because it was a loaded question from the start.

All theists ignore science, every religion claims to be the only true one and believes that everyone else is going to hell, they all believe in ancient holy books, they all shove their beliefs down other people's throats

Okay, this kind of argument is one of the worst that there are. I'm just going to quote something very dumb that I've read somewhere recently:
Quote
Person A: The sun isn't a star, it is round!
Person B: Stars are actually spheres of plasma.
Person A: Shut up! Everyone has a right to have their own opinion.
Nobody ever said that you don't have a right to believe in something. You can believe that unicorns exist, but that won't make it true.
The thread went completely the wrong path once you've started answering to BADecker.

If a thread reaches over a certain amount of pages full of discussion, is it still relevant to continue the discussion? And with over 600 replies shouldn't you expect a part of those to be no more than trolling or very simple statements?

Actively being an atheist is actively being against all believes in deities, being an atheist is being part of a religion too. Not believing in deities does not make you an atheist. Just a non believer in gods as being conscent about by the majority. You might believe in other things, other than a god.

Just my two cents, simple cents, but hey, it's the age of the internet, you can drown in piles of two cents if you're not carefull!!  Grin

Way to generalize.

I'm a theist.  I do not ignore science.

Here's a true generalization for you:  All scientists who believe it is necessarily silly to believe in something without physical evidence are hypocrites.

So I see 2 threads of why islam hates people or why people hate Islam. I dont see the point of such a mundane debate based on religion any debate for or against religion would be stupid. Either you are stupid to believe what a prophet / god / divine entity said or you are stupid enough to believe you can change the minds of the bleak minded people who follow such a prophet / god / divine entity.

But since its fun let me initiate my own brand of 'why do' topic.

WHY DO ATHEISTS (like me) HATE RELIGION ?

Seriously what has to happen in a person's life for them to seriously give up hope on the one true everlasting brand (of religion) which their ancestors have followed for generations.

Everyone has their own story even I have mine, so lets hear some of it.

The reason behind that Atheists hate Religion is that, they want to live boundless to any power and carefree in this world. First of All we must know ourselves creation. How we are created, and What is the purpose behind that. If anyone say that everything in this universe is Just been born or created as Natural, it is utterly ignorant. Think calmly and wisely with deep intellectual thoughts. Look at ourselves Bodily parts how nicely and precisely has been created by One power who is above than everything in the Universe. Find first Who is that power behind all these beautiful creations.
