What an unbelievable effort by Hubi Hurkacz. He was down 0-2 sets to Davidovic Fokina and Fokina serving for the match, up 5-4 in the 3rd set and 40-0 up..but still somehow Hurkacz broke back and won the set and the 4th. Unluckily lost in the 5th set tie breaker but a commendable effort from Hubi. You should never take it easy until the match is actually over. Fokina learnt it the hard way today.

It's a shock that he's out in the first round, many had him down to go far in the tournament. Other news on the men's side, could have been a shock but wasn't in the end, Alcaraz is through unconvincingly after winning a five-setter. He's not looking like one of the favourites so far.

On the women's side, Raducanu is through what was a potentially tricky first-round tie, playing some decent tennis at times, but will need to improve to progress far.

Lot of strange results all around but Hurkacz loosing has to be the biggest one. I had him as a favorite from shadow and expected him to come really far. My ticket today did not have a chance. Don't remember last time when I had results as bad as today on tennis.

Ah well, if we learned anything, it is to bet against the favorites rather than on favorites to cover 3:0 wins or handicaps. Will try it that way tomorrow.

did not know that Verdasco is back in action on Wimbledon, but he is already on a way home (could not be easier way to get 35k EUR, or what is now reward for starting Wimbledon in main draw)

Age had catch up to verdasco its been years since we have seen him in advanced rounds of major tournaments, the best he can do now is compete in chalengers and as you said its easy money to just participate in wimbeldon, it seems that djokovic is not in his top form he had difficulties against kwoon and he lost that second set, i wonder if we will see nadal win the third grandslam in a row.

probably best result for Djokovic, since he is also not on top of his play, but having Hurkacz out from his part of the draw leaves Alcaraz as main contender, and he also struggles to pass through

Bublik just kicked-out Fucsovics, and Sinner is close to kick-out Wawrinka, maybe he can be here in second week? Murray is up in third set, cheering for him

Wasn't expecting Bencic to lose in the first round to Wang. I was just looking at her career stats and other than the Olympic Gold(which is a big achievement and everyones dream) she has a pretty poor showing in most slams. Just 1 Semis appearance at the US Open and she has never gone past the 4th round at any other slam. Surprising to say the least and now, she's out of Wimby in the 1st round with Wang up a set and 5-2 in the 2nd. Serving for the match.

So I had 3 favorites for Wimbledon this year. By favourites I mean players I intended to back in every round, either as ML or maybe even 3:0 victories. Hurkacz was one of them and he lost today.

Čilić was another and he got covid and cancelled his match. Really though for him since he was in good form and this was great opportunity for him.

Now I only have Berrettini left but odds on him will be less juicy then odds on those 2 I mentioned before. At least Djoko won and got us that first free bet, thanks to Sportsbet promo.

Today there were some nice and especially exciting matches. Djokovic managed to qualify for the 2nd round, but it was not convincing at all. He even had to give up the 2nd set to his opponent, certainly not a top player. I don't believe Djokovic can win this tournament, his game was too sloppy today. Although his chances are of course bigger because Medvedev has been banned by the tournament organization. That still remains a tumult thing that exclude Russian athletes. They are welcome at some tournaments and not at others.

I really can't believe that Hurkacz has said goodbye to the Wimbledon in the first round already. Frankly, today has been quite bad for me. I'm having quite big difficulties in winning in my betslips except e-sports in the recent times.

Van rijthoven is still impressing with his performance on grass after winning the final of hertogenbosch against medvedev he performed very well today and won 3 0 against delbonis next he will likely face opelka who is 2 0 ahead againt taberner but the game was interupted but still he will likely win that one so i think van rijthoven will get past opelka too and he might make it far in wimbeldon.

The player against whom Djokovic played is Kwon Soon-woo. South Korean Professional player who has been ranked 52 by the Association of Tennis Professionals. Djokovic losing a set isn't a big thing, because big players too slip at some points. However Kwon Soon-woo have played good, because in every set he have fought back losing the match 6-3 3-6 6-3 6-4. Medvedev out of the tournament is a good chance. Let's wait and watch whats gonna happen with the upcoming matches.

Ah we have seen this many times at Wimbledon and other grand slams, players tipped
to do well getting dumped out in the first set.

Hurkacz was tipped to go far too as the posts above lots of tickets got liquidated.

Also on the Womens side Haddad Maia who has 3 titles on grass in the last few weeks
got beaten too. A few of us had her backed and I even did an in play bet @2.45 on her after
she lost the first set.

Other players looked less convincing, Alcaraz took 5 sets to win, Djokovic got broken
numerous times and lost a set to Kwon before winning.

So yea there will always be upsets.....unfortunately

Update, while she may have been down 5-2 in the 2nd set and Wang serving for the match, Bencic somehow made a miraculous comeback to make it 1-1 set score. From 2-5 down, she managed to win the set 7-5! Just WTA things  . The rain delay must be messing up with the players flow and momentum though. So, we dont know what's gonna happen today. Basically they are playing 1 set of tennis to decide who gets to the 2nd round of Wimbledon.

The elimination of Hurkacz is certainly a big surprise but this year Fokina is playing at a high level.
Another fact that may come as a surprise but does not surprise me that much is the victory of a set by Kwon against Djokovic.
The Korean also managed to win a set from Alcaraz this year in the Barcelona tournament.
It seems to be a peculiarity of him to win at least one set against tournament favorites
What is certain is that such a result makes me think that it is always VERY RISKY to bet on the exact number of set in a match...

@Zackgeno96 it’s clear to see that Djokovic is rusty, but in the end he somehow managed to win and that’ll boost his confidence for his next match. Furthermore I expect him now to put in an improved performance for the next game, and I feel that we’ll see lower odds for Djokovic’s victory as he’ll yet be the favourite to win despite his sloppy performance in the previous game.

Damn, Čilić - I had him as a dark horse. This is really a shame, I felt he would have gotten far this year.
He trained with Đoković recently - so it remains to be seen whether Đoković will test positive as well.

That leaves Croatia without a single player at Wimbledon - can't remember when it happened last.

So much for the Hurkacz hype in this Wimbledon, Lol, I will admit that I fall for it and my multi bet was destroyed because of it. If I'm not mistaken, Fokina play very good in clay so it's surprising to see him win against Hurkacz.

Tough match for Raducanu against Van Uytvanck. I'm not totally sold on her performance so I thinking to bet against her on the next match. Don't think he can go as far as the quarter finals.
