Thats a good point, its kind of a bit selfish holding on for so long before
notifying the tournament you are pulling out which affects the draw.

We can be sure that Lacoste knew that his ongoing vaccination stance
was going to come to this point. So he is a no show for them in this major event,
as a sponsor they havent taken this lightly which has resulted in the split.

Big surprise... Djokovic has now withdrawn from the Indian Wells tournament.

I understand him wanting to leave it until the last minute, in case the visa restrictions are removed or he gets a special exemption, but still, this should have been resolved much earlier. Now we have another tournament where one side of the draw is much easier than the other side, which isn't really fair. If this keeps happening, tournament after tournament, then whoever is seeded to play in the DJokovic part of the draw will have easier matches and likely gain more ranking points, purely because he delays his withdrawal until the latest possible moment.

@Cnut237 I’m not really surprised and neither should the organisers be, because his vaccine stand is an open secret, and knowing that there were rules relating to vaccination they should have canceled his participation right from the start instead of waiting for him to pull out now.

Lastly in a way I’m glad that he’s not coming and causing unnecessary drama like we witnessed earlier, and can’t the organisers take a strict stand and ban his participation where country’s are strict on vaccination it would save us from this unwanted drama.

Yes, definitely. The drama is a bit of a distraction, but I just think it's unfair on the seedings. So now Zverev the #3 seed can get all the way to the final without having to play anyone else in the top 4, whereas Nadal #4 and Medvedev #1 have to play each other. Zverev gets an easier semi-final than Medvedev, which isn't right.

out but he took the second set 6-2 and the third 6-4 so good win after a reset

I am interested in the match which has just about to start, Riske v Muguruza.
I have Riske +4.5 @1.85 and Muguruza to win @ 1.29.

Yeah, that's why for sure some of us here are really surprised to hear that he is still competing at this stage. His mind might be in the game, but his body is deteriorating very fast.

Although he won his game against unknown player here, it doesn't look good, not sure if he can sustain that kind of a comeback next match.

I had an interest in the Riske v Muguruza match as posted previously, I knew
Riske was a gritty fighter and she proved it yesterday beating Muguruza.

I watched the first set which Muguruza won 0-6, I switched off and went
to bed. Riske  came back to win the following 2 sets 6-3, 6-1, My handicap bet
payed out but lost on Muguruza.

I think he is just happy to play tennis again. He loves the sport and now finally he can play it again after a long recovery from serious injury. Just competing is probably feeling very good and everything else, like title, is bonus.

He has a rank good enough to get into grand slams directly and no matter how much money you have that is still a nice check to collect. Not to mention appearing in his home Wimbledon once again. That will be some roar from supporters.

I don’t think it’s realistic anymore to expect some great tennis results from Murray.
His tennis peak is long gone and I think he is aware of that too.
I also believe that he does not have any financial problems, so the only thing left is probably the desire to enjoy tennis without too much personal expectations.
And before retiring to a well-deserved tennis retirement, Murray can once again show his greatness and help children, victims of the war in Ukraine.

millionaire but his pledge is very commendable, Andy is a good guy and well liked

agree on this, I always remember Leyton Hewitt, that played Wimbledon for few season, after almost being retired, because he can get a wild card, based on previous performances
and it is probably a lot of fun for him, without pressure to win it, play a few rounds (which is great success for every player) on it, and be part of big tournament, you do not have to win every (and in these years and conditions, nobody expects a lot from Murray)

I doubt that is going to happen especially if you take into account the current development in corona infection statistics. It is shooting up like a rocket in many countries and despite the new variant being less deadly, at some point it turns into a numbers game. 1% of 100,000 people is less than 0.2% of 1,000,000 people. If we don't control for infections and we also let everyone behave as they wish and not get vaccinated, we may run into problems again. Djokovic is a human being as anyone else is. If he doesn't get vaccinated, he has to live with the same consequences as the ordinary Joe.

Nadal 16/16, just shows that he still got it, he said that there is no pressure from him, so this numbers can go up in this tournament.
