I just read that Nadal is set to return to playing at the Paris Masters. The problem Nadal has at keeping his number #1 is if Djokovic decides to take a wild card into a tournament before Paris, he could pull ahead of Nadal and become world number #1. Then if they meet in a match it could be the match that decides the world number #1 so it will be an interesting end to the season to see who finishes number #1.
It’s good to see Novak Djokovic return to his best once again after his injury, he was initially terrible when he returned but it seems his hard work has paid off and he should reclaim his position as the best in the world because there was no way Nadal would have been No 1 if Djokovic wasn’t injured.

I do hope though that Nadal's knee is completely healed before you play at the Paris Masters. There's so much at stake right now and I'm sure that he wanted to end the year at #1. But as I have said, Djokovic got his second wind and I'm sure that ending as #1 at the end of the year will just be cherry on top for him. So its going to be a battle. But there's no shame in Djokovic coming at #2 though, imagine just a few months ago he is not even in the top 10 and where he is right now is a complete turn of event for Djokovic.

I'm concerned for Nadals knee cause the last time I remember him pulling out, it didn't look very good. While I truly understand that the number one ranking is at stake here, it's an risky comeback according to me. If your hypothetical situation is believed to be true then it shall be one epic match, and I believe the longest running match as none of these two champions will give up easily. I like Nadal and would like him to finish on top, but I have to respect Djokovic for rejuvenating himself and finding his way to the top 3.

I don’t think that he should be risking his future career because he wants to remain at the number one position. It’s lijel that Djokovic is going to be the World Number one very soon.

Yeah I think it would be wise that Nadal doesn't try and get back if his knee is only semi heeled as its not worth the risk in my opinion. Like I mentioned on here Nadal should do what Murray is doing and taking the rest of the year off to get 100% fit and healthy ready for the Australian Open and I really think Nadal should do the same. Finishing number #1 isn't everything and what should come first is health because if he redoes his knee it could see him miss half of next year so its not worth the risk in my opinion and anyway I can't see Nadal beating Djokovic even if they faced each other in a match.

Speaking of Injury, Wilfried Tsonga has returned from an injury which has sidelined him for most of 2018 as he edged out Pella in three sets winning the game by 7-5 5-7 7-6 to advance to the last 16.

@vella85 - True. That's why I said that his knees should be completely healed before he starts to compete again. He is a competitor though and sometimes they really make a bad situation just because of the stakes at hand. Well, Murray case proved that eventhough our mind wanted to play and compete but our body says otherwise, sooner or later it will give up so Nadal needs to take that into account as well.

Yes I agree my friend, as we know with Nadal he has that never give up attitude and always wants to compete against the best and be the best but he must really consider his long term future now that he is getting older and like I said being number #1 at the end of the season is nothing compared to playing and doing his knee again which could see him miss half of next year or even worse end his career. Lets see what he decides to do.

At this stage of his career being number one shouldn’t be the sole focus of Nadal he should just find ways to prolong his career the same way that Federer is currently doing.

Yes, "health should come first", not just in tennis but in other sport discipline as well. Those guys really reached the pinnacle of their careers, both him and Roger Federer has set the bar high and as much as competitive nature is inside of them, its better to take care of your health because after their tennis career is over, we don't want to hear reports that their mobility is somewhat affected because they didn't listen to their body during the height of their tennis careers.

I agree, health is the most important thing when it comes to getting older and playing a sport. I have seen the affects it can have on players from other sports who don't take care of their bodies and health, they then have to live with that for the rest of their lives so if Nadal's knee isn't 100% right he must take time for it to heal and be 100% ready before playing again. The knee is very important and if it goes again it could be career ending, I have also seen some bad knee injuries in many sports that have ended players careers and we don't want to see it end Nadal's career.

On some other news Federer has come out and said that he has been suffering from a hand injury during the European summer but seems to be okay now.

The Qualifiers for the Paris Masters have started where we have already seen some upsets with Andreas Seppi losing in 3 sets against the American Denis Kudla and also Sam Querrey losing in 3 sets to Nicolas Mahut on the first day of the tournament. Matthew Ebden is the number 1 seed so it will be interesting to see if he can make it through as most of the top seeds have lost already, well the ones in the top 10.

I'm not really surprised by those upsets these days the landscape of tennis has changed gone are the days when senior pros used to intimate youngsters, these days it's the opposite which I feel is good for the sport. Roger Fedder has sealed his 99th cup win and I feel he'll call it quits post the 100 one, I feel we're going to see another era coming to an end at 37 I don't see him lasting long now.

The top 3 players will be there in the Paris Masters but I think that Roger has a tough draw. Was quite surprised though to see him in this tournaments as he skips the last 2 years of Paris Masters. Maybe he felt good this time. Its only exciting to see Nadal and Djokovich compete to see which one will be on top at the end of the year. Upsets do really happen so I'm not surprised at all. Those young kids are not really intimated so its either they performed very well and doesn't care about the crowd, or they mentally break down in the middle of the set and lose everything.

Yeah its interesting to see Federer compete at this up coming tournament as I would of thought that he would give it a miss like he has been doing. I guess he is doing it as like you said he feels his body is up to it. I'm interested to see how well Nadal goes with this knee injury he has to see if it has healed but I highly doubt it is 100% ready but like we know with Nadal he is a fighter and doesn't want to give up and lose his number #1 ranking. For me this is the main focus on this tournament to see these two players battle it out for the number #1 ranking.

@vella - Federer wanted to spoil the competition between Nadal and Djokovic so he wanted to join the party.  Grin. But I have said, he has a tough draw, Federer's possible opponents in his quest for the Paris Masters.

Round 1: Bye
Round 2: Raonic  and/or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
Round 3: Fognini
QF       : Kevin Anderson / Nishikori
SF.      : Djokovic
Finals. :  Nadal

As you can see its not that easy so I hope that he still enough wind and give us a good tennis match. As far as Nadal's knee though, in my opinion, its not totally healed and I do hope that he would not aggravate it, so let's see how it pans out.

Actually you could be right my friend as Federer might want to spoil the party and maybe even win the Paris Masters. He does have a tough draw so it will be interesting to see how well he does. Well we know that he can't move up the rankings no matter what happens and he will finish ranked 3rd in the world this year. There could be some changes in the top 10 with the big one being the number #1 ranking but there is also a chance for other spots to change like Alexander Zverev having a chance to move into the number 4 spot and overtake Potro and Nishikori has a big chance to break into the top 10. So this tournament is vital for a few of the players but the biggest being Nadal and Djokovic.

As expected, Djokovic won his match against 7-5, 6-1 win against Joao Sousa. But damn, my boy Stefanos Tsitsipas was upset Dzumhur 6-3, 6-3, even Shapovalov  was also out in the first round courtesy of Gasquet. What a match between Raonic vs Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, battle of big servers 6-7 (4), 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5), it just the breaks of the game, I must say but both has equal chances of winning, its just Tsonga wasn't able to capitailized. Its Raonic vs Federer next.

Well as expected almost all the top seeded players have made it through to the next round except for Stefanos Tsitsipas. I was looking forward to seeing Federer and Raonic playing but it was called off along with the Fognini match and the Nadal match was cancelled so we have to wait for these two matches to play out now.

Talking about injuries, Rafael Nadal suffered another one today and he was forced to withdraw at the Paris Master, he cited a abdominal injury so I guess Djokovic could make a good run and end up as the number 1 player at the end of the year. Raonic also withdraw from his match against Federer because of elbow injury so Roger is going through the next round.
