Now that, of course, is all assuming PPLNS and that 1 block = N shares.

There are never "extra" coins. All coins are distributed evenly per share*. If you have 2% of the total shares then you get %2 of the coins and whoever has the other 98% (be it 1 other person/worker or 1,000 other people/workers) of the shares get(s) the other 98% of the coins. *In PPLNS, N is rarely the exact number of shares that a block was found with, but I'm trying to not "complicate" the explanations, and therefore pretending that N = 1 block's worth of shares (to coincide with the "I'm the only one mining" question).

something important to know :
Each found block on a pool is like a game round.
Each share you submit give you points... A block found = end of the game... All points are reset
So sometimes, you can get rewards a few days later if there was no blocks found or the pool was unused...
Also, its not required to be connected when the block is found to get the points rewards...
Damn, now im motivated by a round of Planet Side 2 :p

Funny thing is: I can mine at default intensity (20) and still play games such as League of Legends on max settings in 1080; no hiccups, no stutters... pretty impressive profitability and usability. neoscrypt hammed up my card pretty bad... intensity went down to 15 I think.
On lbry algo JK? How much hashrate is that card giving you on lbry algo? thx ~158Mh. Its an Asus GTX 980 Check the benches for my specific card by: Clicking here. Its in P2 state. You may have been right; im stepping away from forcing P0. Allthough, my watercooled GTX 480, it has no P state problems. Are you oc'ing I can only get 100 mh out of my 980ti. EDIT: I was using the wrong version. 223 mh I GET ABOUT THE SAME-- My 750ti cards get about 50MH/s rock steady, but my EVGA Classified 980ti starts out at about 250MH/s, then throttles to 200-225MH/s. The big card runs to hot for summer weather. --scyptr scryptr how much spacing do you have between the big cards? I REPLACED MY GTX 960 SSC WITH A GTX 980ti CLASSIFIED-- The 980ti is a single card in an open tower case, and it runs hotter than I thought. When I check, it is always around 83 deg F. My GTX 960 is going into a new rig, Win 7 X64 dual booted with Lubuntu 14.04.4, and with another GTX 960 SCC. I also have 2 Zotac AMP! Extreme 980ti cards that will be on the outside of the crate, both sides, kinda like outriggers on a trimaran. The rig will be dual boot so that I can auto switch with windows, or run Linux programs and drivers if I need to pound a certain algo. Spacing there? Probably more than 6", I am just about to build the frame and assemble the components. The GTX 960 cards will be above the crate, where it is normally hotter. Maybe I should use a steel shelf system, spacing might be easier. My 750ti cards are 1-2 inches apart, above a Cooler Master HAF XB case with a special top that I built. There are multiple fans and really good venting built into the case. They run at 50-60 deg F, even in the summer. --scryptr

Pool luck is a real thing.
Pool luck is amplified by smaller pool hashrates when block TTF is larger than confirm time...
Larger hashrates not only slow the network for your pool (via diff), but they do for all pools as well.
The payout to the extra miner in the end, means less payout to the other miners in the beginning.
Once pool hashrate grows beyond a certain point, pool luck is even with the rest of the network for the most part. Luck, can be applied as an inverse scale from the point of TTF=greater than confirm time; all the way to zero hashrate. It's hard to explain this last concept without a picture, but i am in no state to draw a picture.

So for easy clarification. 1 round is from the time you start mining til the finding of the next block. Your reward is based on how much work you did to find that block, not based on how high your hashrate was at the moment of finding it. Solo mining is you against every other miner across the entire coin network. If you happen to find the block before everyone else, you get all the rewards, minus fees. The more miners on your team, the more chances you have to win a round, but the lower the payout. In the case of some pools(lyra2v2 merge mined) at times our pool owns the entire network so to speak, so we win every round and share it with our team. The payout is consistant barring block maturity and exchange time. A pool means less rewards more often vs solo mining a lot of work for the occasional reward. If I've missed something please add on.

Yeah. Pretty close description.
When pool hashrate gets past the point of most users only having less than ~2% hashrate, you really see consistent payouts and the luck factor doesn't really take effect.

I don't see any correlation between TTF and confirm time. Average payout for a given period is the same regardless of TTF, so how can this be correlated to confirm time?

sorry, I meant when TTF is longer than 3-4 times the block find time luck is most present. I totally botched that statement.

And within one minute a block is hit in the pool..of course by me because i'm the only miner. i get all the coins on that block about 140 correct ?

and assuming no other miners have mined before there were no other miners..... then there are shares "in limbo" till the next block is found.

correct, minus pool fee my 5 cents: you have perfect opportunity to test that real-life mining smth on http://yiimp.ccminer.org, for example mue on quark pool when there are no other miners Thx and thx to all .. Yes i'm on that pool made 200 LBC coins in 3 days at 1.2 gig.

Now the blocks per hash per blocks found a day ect we need about 10-20 gh here to make it more profitable then yiimp on LBC .... but lets just leave that statement alone for now JMO.

Amazing hashrates with 980Ti.... I need to check on the 10 series. I wonder what the 1060 does. Price point would be nice if good hashrates =)
