I have heard a lot of hype around PIVX in the last few months and I was looking to get involved. However I don't get the hype and was wondering what does this coin have going for it that the other coins don't like XMR and DASH don't? Also what is POS 2.0-3.0? I know of regular POS but is this a POS on steroids? Haha, kindly please and thank you for help! Smiley

Different tech. The following highlights a few of PIVX's unique features as compared to other privacy coins; it's not meant to say 'DASH sucks' or whatever; just highlight differences. I also don't claim this to be an exhaustive or authoritative list; others may have more to add.

- Anonymization: XMR (and XSPEC) use(s) ring signatures. PIVX, like DASH, uses CoinJoin. As of about a month ago, PIVX uses Zerocoin protocol in addition to the privacy features it shares with DASH. The Zerocoin implementation will continue to evolve; for example, deterministic zPiv generation will be rolled out soon.
- Block time: PIVX is among the fastest. 60s for PIVX, vs. also 60s for XSPEC, vs. 120s for XMR, vs. 150s+ for DASH. Both DASH and PIVX also use InstantSend.
- Algorithm: XMR = PoW (CryptoNight); DASH = masternodes + PoW (x11); XSPEC = full-time PoS only; PIVX = full-time PoS + masternodes. (*see note below re: PoS)
- Governance: DASH and PIVX both have masternode voting, whereas XMR and XSPEC do not. Uniquely, PIVX incorporates a 'see-saw' mechanism to balance the value of staking vs. running a masternode: The more MNs are in operation, the lower the reward and the greater the benefits of staking, and vice versa. New voting/governance proposals are currently under evaluation, with the goal of further democratization (i.e., voting shouldn't be exclusively in the hands of masternode holders).
- Supply: Currently, just under 8 million DASH, ~15.5 million XMR, ~21 million XSPEC, and 55 million PIVX. All are theoretically inflationary, but various factors will keep their supplies from increasing to infinity. For example, transaction fees on the PIVX network are burned, meaning that PIVX actually has the potential to become deflationary.
- Other features of PIVX: In-wallet multi-signature escrow; Android and (soon) iOS wallets; plans for a decentralized exchange (zDEX); support of 30 (and counting) languages; active community (not so much on BCT but on Slack/forum); reliable devs; no past controversies ala DASH's 'instamine'.

Basically, XMR goes for privacy at the expense of convenience as a currency (ring sigs are computationally intense). DASH, like Bitcoin, was the first of its kind and has brand recognition and market share despite not necessarily being the most advanced technology, and again at the expense of some convenience as a currency (slow block times). PIVX strives to build on DASH, improve on it, and incorporate stronger anonymity features (Zerocoin protocol), while ALSO maintaining convenience as an actual currency (fast block times, low tx fees, etc.). XSPEC is earlier in its development cycle, but is more or less trying to be to Monero what PIVX is to DASH.

TL;DR: PIVX is faster than DASH or XMR and, with the implementation of Zerocoin protocol, is as/more secure. It has a unique solution to community governance, and strong plans for continued development and real-world adoption.

Someone else will have to address your PoS version # question.

- Algorithm: XMR = PoW (CryptoNight); DASH = half PoS and half PoW (x11); PIVX and XSPEC = full-time PoS. (*see note below re: PoS)

DASH isn't half PoS and half PoW, it is only PoW. Masternodes and their collateral/reward doesn't equal PoS.

I want to get involved in PIVX for some time now, but still didnt. What would be a good entry point in your opinion? I was thinking everything under 35,000 sats should do fine?!

If you check Upbit Korean Exchange, 250+BTC volume BTC/PIV + 537 BTC volume KRW/PIVX in 24hrs. Dunno if it will get below 35k satoshis again... the Koreans love pivx!

What's the current investment required to operate a masternode?

The current requirement is the same as the past and (likely) future requirement, and is 10,000 PIVX.

This is great news guys. I hope that Coinmarketcap will integrate upbit's volume soon, so that everyone can notice the volume bump.
Great job

Here ya go folks.  Why (to me) there is an incredible emerging trend and I believe breakout for PIVX.

Multiple factors emerging for #PIVX.
- 1) CMC isn't showing nearly 1000BTC/24hr trades occurring on South Korean Exchange (combined BTC-PIVX and KWR-PIVX pairings) https://upbit.com/exchange?code=CRIX.UPBIT.BTC-PIVX

-2) Trade and trend analysis for the next 1-14 days pushing PIVX into a compression wedge (at the same time that volume is building). https://www.tradingview.com/chart/PIVXBTC/ECfsFWBA-PIVX-BTC-short-mid-term-analysis-Compression-Release-Pending/

-3) Views on PIVX.org website have shot up 4-5x this past week around 20-30k views a day now.

-4) iOS app wallet is about to launch.

-5) New zPIV (zerocoin) implementations coming including zPIV staking Smiley
----

As always, dyor when thinking about any type of trade/etc.

That said, if I am looking at the charts and what's about to pop, 70k might be the new support for PIVX in the very near future.

Hi there,
I just signed up to the forum to leave this comment. I recently invested in PIVX and am goin to add some more coins. I think it has a lot of potential to reach a double digit value very soon.

However, there is one issue that really needs to be fixed: the mobile app is terrible! I understand that someone certainly has put a lot of work into it, but its continuously out of sync and people are loosing their coins - just take a look at the user comments on google playstore...!
I would even go so far to say that it would be better to remove the mobile app entirely and istead recommend alternatives such as coinomi or others.... just my 2 cents. I think thats a real turn off for new people. Loosing your coins due to technical issues = not cool.

edit: i might add that the PIVX support was extremely helpful in recovering my coins

CMC isn't up to date with a lot of coins. They are at the top and no longer have the hunger. They're like fat cats now. We need another site to replace or challenge CMC. I'm thinking that maybe CryptoCompare.com might be able to do that?

It's already starting to move up. Now that all with Pivx works smoothly it is impossible for investors to ignore such a good project.

pivX fans

come and vote here

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2479595.0

also if you can keep discussion going on this thread it will benefit this project because it is one of a handful of REAL projects as defined by the OP in that thread.

Keeping this attention to real projects will obviously filter the field of view of new persons looking for REAL projects among the masses of dreams and talk promises and fantasies that other projects are providing.

so post on that thread when and often as you can
