Yes, it's the second time that Wright has attempted this. An FT blog article from a month ago about the preparation for this try is hereAs Gavin says in his blog, part of that preparation was flying him to London to meet Wright I’d want to see:
A message signed with the same PGP key Satoshi used back in 2010. (…but his computer could have been hacked)
A message signed with keys from early Bitcoin blocks (…but his wallet could have been stolen).
Email or private forum posts he sent to me in 2010 (… but email could have been hacked).
A conversation about technical stuff, ideally via email, so I can see if it feels like the same person I communicated with in 2010. Arguments about signed messages sure, but Andresen seems to put a lot of weight on the face-to-face After spending time with him I am convinced beyond a reasonable doubt: Craig Wright is Satoshi. Overall, presumably he thinks that Wright ticked enough of those boxes to convince him.... The FT article says that Matonis has also known this has been coming for a month at least and presumably done, as he says here, his due dilligence, before coming out in favor of Wright's 'proof' “I have been contacted by a private group and I am under a strict NDA [non-disclosure agreement] and press embargo during due diligence phase.” |

Yeah the last week I have read many stories about people revealing the real identity of Satoshi. I do not know how they did it and if it is even true but these people take it very serious. |

The blog post is also incoherent nonsense about procedures to verify a signature meant to spoof non-tech journalists. Gavin's blog site is also serving up a bad cert, so it's a decent conclusion that the message confirming Wright's identity is a hack: gavinandresen.ninja uses an invalid security certificate.

hmm personally i dont think hes telling the truth but this quote has me confused "Jon Matonis, a founding director of the Bitcoin Foundation, was given a private proof session by Wright in late March. Matonis deemed the proof conclusive".

Good point. I think anyone claiming to be Satoshi must prove authorship of the paper. Such proof would take precedence over anything involving technical implementation. No proof of authorship, no proof of Satoshi. |

just skimmed through the thread and couldn't find any proof (or an explanation of what it is.). the article are also lacking citations/sources for the important parts. so, bottom line, the media are just being stupid again, am I right?
Pretty much. Nothing was shown/proved in the BBC article. I'm sure a laymen could easily be fooled but what is more concerning is Gavin Andresen seemingly buying this bullshit. Yep. I really don't think the real satoshi would behave like this, though it's a good reason why he should likely remain anon. You could be the nicest/smartest guy in the world but people would still hate you for it. Alarming indeed. My initial feelings here are that Gavin needs a key supporter to move people from core, even if temporary and proven to be false down the road... his prior attempts have not worked. How do you round up all of the old original community members and get them to follow you?... Bring back Satoshi and have him support your plans. I think its an attempt to harness the 'reaction' and pull one over on the bitcoin community to get them to move, I would expect Wright to soon reveal what he's been "working on" with his staff of people that don't want to be bothered and I think it will fall in line with projects that Gavin is pursuing... But Gavin is smart enough to realise the current level of 'proof' wouldn't last an hour under scrutiny. Why would he stake his reputation on something so flimsy? Is a 12 hour window enough time time to convince core devs to do this? Wouldn't core devs check the 'proof' for themselves? A good theory but it doesn't seem like it would be sufficient time to do what you're suggesting. |

Wonder if anyone has informed the Australian Taxation Office about this...
I'm sure Mr. Wright already planned out how to deal with the ATO, what kind of manoeuvre he's playing out with the government is more interesting in the coming days. As he proclaimed to be the one, he can also claim that he lost all his keys in a boating accident. What kind of taxation consequence would he face? |

Can some1 give me a clear answer: did he sign the blocks with the private key or not?
The BBC and other news outlets say yes but no evidence of it has been provided. no $hit, news agencies don't care if the news is really true or not as long as it is a hot news. and there is nothing hotter that this news, everybody in bitcoin world is curious to know who satoshi really is but also most of us that are using bitcoin know to ask for a signed message first and we will also detect fake satoshi |

Have you read none of this thread? Yes, I've read it all. I think it's bullshit too, but still in the "interested to see how they answer that" phase. I suppose I'm still a little reluctant to accept that Andresen and Matonis seemed to have bought, or are complicit in, a lie. If they have/are, the reasoning/motivation would be interesting to see. Not that my opinion matters. Or yours. |
