I design systems for living and have been checking out the forums for a while now.
I am surprised that many people don't know how to design large systems, circuits breaking, power supplies blowing etc... As I design data centers and system rooms with "green tech" in mind, including power, cooling and networking hardware I felt maybe I would register and help people out with my experience.
I am also interested in FPGA design and use in computing so I felt BitCoin may be a thing for me...
So if you have any questions regarding designing minimal hardware on minimal energy and getting maximal performance fire waway, and I'll do my best.

Hey I'm new here, just came to check things out. I've been doing a bit of work with bitcoins over the past few months and things are really good. It seems like the "gold standard" except online. Anyway, great to be here!
Yeah, isn't amazing that BitCoin is actually 'backed' by something (the work to produce each block) but the US$ is "Trust us that it has a value". lol, who trust their government any more? What a quaint idea! Welcome to the Bitcoin community, HeyRon. As much as I prefer Bitcoin to USD, please note that your post is not entirely correct. The US$ is backed by the need to pay taxes, which is backed by governmental force. This is the definition of fiat. Bitcoin, unfortunately, is not currently backed by anything; the work to produce each block does not back it. Digging holes may be a lot of work, but holes are not backed by that work. Remember that this can change. All national currencies, including USD, have a finite and usually short lifespan, and at the end of it they lose their backing. And, it will only be time preventing someone from backing all the bitcoins, because of their limited amount, simply by agreeing to sell products for a total price above 21000000 BTC. I'm pretty sure BTC, like gold, is backed by nothing but trust and limitations. The USD is falling because of a lack of trust in the US economy and the lifting of limitations by excess of printing. I have no idea why this is, but it might end up with a 10% range for weeks or months before the next big breakout. It's happened before. This is generally a good thing, and as the currency matures the volatilty should quieten down more like the forex trading rather then the current pattern which is more like commodities trading. |

Hi All. I'm a noob at posting to the forum but have been reading since October. I've been mining many of the alt coins at various times and am currently mining LTC and BTC. I have traded a lot on the a couple of exchanges. I just figured it might be time to actually say something... maybe even something useful sometime This is mostly a hobby for me, so I don't care so much if I make anything at all from it. It is nice to occasionally buy something from Amazon via btcbuy though  |

Hi, I am new to Bitcoin Mining . I am trying to setup a dedicated miner based on the "mining rig" page, the 2100MHash/Sec box. Got (3) XFX HD 6990 Graphics Cards, the big Coolermaster HAF-X case ,1500W P/S, the whole Shabang! I am a windows user, and comfortable with it, but decided to experiment with Linux to do this dedicated task, since it seems a good way to learn a little bit about Linux as well. I am running Ubuntu 10.4 (Natty Narwhal). just installed Bitcoin (I can see my wallet), but, there I sit. Linux found new updates and I just rebooted, now I cant get the basic Bitcoin program to relaunch. Here is the error "EXCEPTION: 22DbRunRecoveryException DbEnv::open: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery bitcoin in AppInit() ". 1) Anyone know which "Miner" utilizes the 6990 card the most ? (Highest hash rate). I will try to load that next? or step 2 ? 2) Install drivers from Ati/AMd Site. Downloaded this "amd-driver-installer-12-1-x86.x86_64.run" and double clicked on it, but noithing happened, and I don't know where to look to see if it is working. So, the the 3 cards wake up on boot, and I know they are there, but they are basically idling,  because they are not in use. Any assistance would be appreciated. Sincerely, U308Miner |

Hi, I'm a complete newbie at Bitcointalk forums but not a newbie at Bitcoins. Been following Bitcoins ever since the big crunch from $30. I hope they go back to that price cuz I'm mining at 5 GHash/s on Deepbit.
