Hi everyone, I've got a couple of 5770s overclocked and mining away. I get about 220 MHash/sec each, not too bad but definitely not a lot. I'd love to get some more hardware but I'm worried about it being useless soon with all the difficulty increases.

Ahimoth... bitcoin miner... hoping a ton of miners get so depressed from the recent BTC<->USD price drop ($10.12 as of right now) that they either ebay their rigs, or just plain turn them off.

I would love to see the difficulty go back to end of May 2011 levels (567269). At least then I wouldn't be forced into a pool. At that difficulty, I was finding one block per week.

I started out as a miner as well, but now I'm more interested in Bitcoin as a community- the forums seem to be full of a mixture of idealists and people in it to make money, and it's been pretty interesting watching the two sides interact.

I've been reading much about bitcoin while my old nVidia card makes a joke out of mining. Figured I should have a clue before I join a forum and make posts...
I'm in FL. Wish there were someone local for me to buy BTC from. Especially now that all the Silk-Road-Pot-Buyers-Turned-Investors are selling like the Pot-Heads they are...
Not that I have a problem with pot-heads... They're giving my late arrival a second chance. BTC isn't meant to be an investment, but a trade medium... It was designed intentionally to hit this wall and shake out the holders. It's working. If you abused it, didn't pay attention to security, etc... Duh. I wouldn't hand my wallet full of cash to a homeless guy with a sign that says 'trust me' on it... "How could this happen?" "Really? How could you believe it wouldn't?" Like so many other things going on financially in the world today... If you hammer the nail, eventually it goes in... herp a derp.
I do enjoy grasping this 4th type of money that conventional economists never learned or taught about, because it didn't exist when they were in school. For the first time in the history of mankind, legitimate Capitalism has an opportunity to exist! How awesome is that!? It's like getting to watch Jesus be born, if you're into religion. You get the idea... Money backed by the demand for unbacking; because all backing is corrupt. Encroachment created this inevitability... It's so beautiful... [sniff] I shall name it Joe!
My only concern for BTC is that there aren't enough intelligent people in the human race.... While it is a network of computers, without the people operating those computers, it ceases to exist. If there aren't enough people with IQs above room temperature to keep it viable, it isn't viable. It is essentially a currency built on intellect, something sadly lacking from the average human being today....

Hi guys, I learnt about bitcoins only this year. I was active in distributed computing projects like Folding@Home earlier on. I thought to myself there must be a way to make money for myself instead of donating cpu power to helping humanity, the selfish person that I am. At the time there was nothing like bitcoin, and I had only a Celeron M on my laptop and was getting left behind in the dust by people who had just started using their PS3s and GPUs for distributed computing projects. So I gave up and forgot about it as I could not invest in a new computer with a powerhouse GPU just for donations sake. Being out the loop because of my discouragement, I missed the early Bitcoin train!
After I learnt of bitcoin, I began toying with the idea of investing in a mining rig for the purposes of making money. I am wondering if it is still possible for someone without any electricity costs (University situation) to earn at least the cost of hardware back? I realize that the difficulty levels are rising exponentially, the USD/bitcoin rate has been trending downwards since June.. All of this makes me wonder whether or not if it is worth it or not?

Hi all! Been mining for a little over a month with a 5770, 5870, and 2 6950's. Started with a 5770 and used mybitcoin .com luckily/unluckly I lost my first 1.4 bitcoins there when mtgox got hacked. Hence I switched my passwords and never went back to mybitcoin.com. Now that I have sold coins ,traded items, and basically made back my investment I am happy I did not return too the now cursed/erased mybitcoin.com. Good thing I did not get in this earlier and get thousands zapped! Best to be a middle adopter and avoid catastrophic wipe outs
