While i understand why this restrictions was made, i would like to also point out, that it forces people to spam useless posts in newbie area just to be able to post elsewhere.
Oh man, never realized it till you pointed it out!

While this is a meaningful restriction, I think it should be made clearer to newbies why they cannot posts. The lack of reply box is not intuitive.

Yes, this was my first thought too.

I concur. Some forums send an email or show a message after registration, like: Your account is limited until an administrator approves it, or you verify your email address or similar... I only found out why I can't post after asking on IRC. There should be a message after login or a permanent message bar with an explanation.

I've got 4 hours, more than 5 posts and I still have no access to other forums. Is this a manual process where the admin grants me the access?

Please see the first post in this topic, it'll answer your question.

So I'm logged in... but the timer isn't ticking down...
How does this work?

Yeah, this 4 hours of logged in time is a sort of bizarre account restriction.
I don't think so. It means you have to invest a significant amount of time to be able to freely participate so that limits the amount of people creating throwaways to troll.

Yeah, I had Total time logged in: 1 hours and 20 minutes more than an hour ago, but now it still shows just 1 hours and 40 minutes. Does it reset to zero after I log off, close the browser or shut down the PC?

No, it doesn't..it keeps track of how much you spent online before leaving the forum

Define "leaving". A hour went by, but the counter shows only 3 minutes more than then.

Define "active". Looking at the window? Scrolling it up and down? Clicking links? Refreshing the same page over an over again? How often?

I think the restrictions are reasonable. Takes awhile to figure out what bitcoins are all about, etc.

If anything, I'd probably up the minimum time a bit before newbies can go elsewhere. "Lurk and learn" is always a good philosophy.

It's a good idea and I guess it weeds out a lot of scammers/idiots that just want to troll.
