Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts (new topics or replies).

If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.

Also:
- Newbies cannot upload their own avatars.
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.

Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted. (The system automatically checks every 10 minutes and promotes people as appropriate.)

Another newbie, making 5 superfluous  posts and waiting 4 hours :-(

Does you account not automatically update?
Once you pass the restrictions are you supposed to contact someone?

Well since I posted, the "Total time logged in" seems to have unstuck. I wonder what the algorithm is for determining how long you have been logged in, because it seems like forum time flows like molasses, hehe.

As I understand this should be an automatic process, I can't imagine anyone with a job description "see how long a newbie has been online and let him post when he can behave".

4 hours is a really long time if you make the mistake of browsing the forum for weeks and reading everything before bothering to register.  Sad

Same here. At least the requirements aren't too intensive.

I joined because of the new ad system.   Not even sure what to post about yet.

Good idea but quite easy for trolls to overcome this. Is there another method to show who knows their stuff and is a leader in the industry besides the number of posts?

A reputation system, like on a lot of vBulletin style forums?

Yes that would be good.

I just saw this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=86580.0
That explains a bit more.

Are there any more ways to know who is a true leader and who I can trust and should listen to?

Admittedly quite annoying but understandable.  Trolls make it difficult for everyone.

Just joined today based on the discussions going on about BTC Guild approaching 51%

The newbie rules are fair, I tend to agree with this approach.
