It's arguable either way. It's good to have the rules in place, but it's also very easy to get whitelisted. Just leave your browser open for a few hours, and come here and type five posts right away. Anybody can do it without working hard at all.

While it's mildly annoying, I understand the reasoning.  Still, I'm not sure how much it will deter those who are seriously determined.

I would say at the very least that something about the "newbie" restrictions needs to be added in the user profile area.  I only just recently stumbled across the newbies section further down in the topic list discovering why I wasn't able to message anyone or post anything anywhere else.  At least movie the newbie section to the top of the forum listing.  I've been looking at the forum page for weeks and only just now happened to see the newbie section with its helpful note as to why I've basically been locked out of the forums until now.

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts.

If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.

Also:
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.
- You need 50 posts to put an image in your signature.

Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted.

5 posts is pretty reasonable..

I think the restrictions are pretty reasonable to prevent spamming, at least make the viagra companies spend some more time coding to post newbie posts.

Why not make a FAQ,
Now I know why I can not find reply-bar when reading posts.
Thanks

This serves as a really good way to punish those of us that can manage to use google or figure out something on our own.

Hmm, interesting restriction. I can understand the anti-spam reasoning, though it is a bit annoying to find out after registering to ask a specific question, that I won't be able to for some time. :-(

Just wanted to ask if there were any flag suggestions for my XFX 6950 that is flashed to XFX 6970 for use in GUIminer?

Guess. I'll wander the newbies forum to get my post count up.

Stay away from Jakea1011

Why?

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."

- Carroll Quigley, CFR member, mentor to Bill Clinton, from 'Tragedy And Hope'

Somewhat annoying restrictions, although I'll play along because I want access to the rest of the boards. Might there be a better way? I'm not sure.

If you really are in a hurry to get unrestricted, you can try your luck here:
