I continue to maintain that these restrictions are insulting to new members who are some of the most enthusiastic people toward bitcoin. Trolling is a problem, I suppose, but of all the ways to deal with it they have chosen to scoop every person into their dragnet and interrupt our lives and progress and remind us that a caste system exists here. It's a very, very bad decision. Furthermore, it's not solving any problem and is creating new ones. But also, is it even working? I think I should be outta here based on the criteria given, but I guess I wait for some caste master to get around to it.

I believe it is logical to have restrictions, don't believe they are too tight right here. It may be annoying, but all the trolling going on at other forums are even more annoying...

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts. If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic. Also: - You must have made one post in order to send PMs. - You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature. - You need 50 posts to put an image in your signature. Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted. How many posts does it take to get some free BTCs in my wallet?

I'm basically stuck making frivolous posts to get to the 5 post limit, so I can REALLY post
same here... just wanted to post regarding bitcoins.lc (tons of rejected shares) as well as deepbit downtime, but I guess I'm stuck here for 3 more posts...

Disagree. People are "trolling" out there right now and keeping you here is not going to stop it.

How many posts does it take to get some free BTCs in my wallet? That would be nice - but where to get these bitcoins from? I doubt the people would like an inefficient javascript miner running in the background when visiting the forum.

Restrictions like this are great, thanks. I ran a small forum for a while and I can't tell you the amount of spam I got just by looking away for no longer than maybe a day?
Also I'm very talkative so 5 or 10 or whatever posts won't be hard to do.

What else could I say?

this is fair, I first saw the notifications about 50 posts and thought that's gonna take a while and it would be hard to not get boring in the newbie forum by that time, hah.

I'm talkative too, but these restrictions are hard to swallow. I don't doubt they reduce spam, but I think it discourages new users, some of whom could be interested merchants wanting to integrate Bitcoin.

You're right about that. There are more effective ways of banning spam than by just enforcing a certain post limit. If spamming is profitable, spammers will pay this price - the average newcomer however is discouraged and may leave before even reaching the "real" board. There are very good forum addons that automatically classify spam and ban/freeze the corresponding user. I think one of these should be installed to reduce the spam problem instead.
